Diamond Princess Spring Flowers Cruise - Tsuruga - April 2018
Tsuruga, on the west coast of Japan, was the 2nd Japanese port, and the 3rd port overall, on my Diamond Princess Spring Flowers Cruise in April 2018.
The shore excursion was called “Highlights of Tsuruga”. It consisted of a visit to the Pine Forest, the Shinto Shrine, the Port of Humanity museum, the Red Brick Warehouse, and the Fish Market.
The Port of Humanity museum tells of the consul general from Japan in Lithuania who helped European Jewish refugees in the 1930s escape to Japan on their way to their permanent new homes. The Red Brick Warehouse has a historical diarama with model train showing how life was in the early part of the 1900s, as one of the most “western” cities from Japan. People would come from Europe via the train thru Russia and then a ship to Tsuruga. The last stop of the tour was the Fish Market, where a green tea ice cream cone was enticing to me.

Train Cruise Episode 36
Lake Biwa and Beyond
We travel from Kyoto Prefecture along the western coast of Lake Biwa and beyond to Tsuruga on the Sea of Japan. Admire the late fall scenery on the cable car and rope way to the peak of Mt. Hiei, where we catch a glimpse of Japan's largest lake. We visit vestiges of the locally funded, now-defunct Kojaku Railway, and we meet a blacksmith, an antique shop owner and a cooper who all relocated to the area. We arrive at Tsuruga, once the international train's boat connection to the Trans-Siberian Railway.

A Day in Zoorasia | Trip to Japan 2017
Here I show you some of the animals I saw when I spent A Day in Zoorasia Yokohama.
Zoorasia was established in 1999, and since then has been operating under the themes of Symbiosis of Life and Harmony with Nature. The animals are generally kept in spacious areas that mimic their natural habitat to a degree that is not usually seen in Japanese zoos.
It has eight ecological areas: Asian Tropical Forest, Subarctic Forest, Oceanian Grassland, Central Asian Highland, Japanese Countryside, Amazon Jungle and African Tropical Rainforest.
In the Asian Tropical Forest there are displayed the Indian Elephant, Sumatran Tiger, Bornean Orangutan, Malayan Tapir, Clouded Leopard, and others.
In the Subarctic Forest there are displayed the Humboldt Penguin, Amur Leopard, South African Fur Seal, Eurasian Otter, Red Panda, it also has a walk-in bird cage.
In the Oceanian Grassland there are displayed the Red Kangaroo, Emu and the Goodfellow's Tree Kangaroo.
In the Japanese Countryside there are displayed the Red Fox, Raccoon Dog, Tsushima Leopard Cat, Japanese Black Bear, and others.
In the Central Asian Highland there are displayed the Dhole, Mongolian Wild Ass, and others.
In the Amazon Jungle there are displayed the Bush Dog, Spectacled Bear, Ocelot, and others.
In the African Rainforest there are displayed the Crested Porcupine, Okapi, Red River Hog, and others.
In the African Savannah there are displayed the Cheetah, Giraffe, Asian Lion, Grant's Zebra, and others.
