Carlsberg Brewery Tour in Copenhagen, Denmark
We love beer! No matter the city, no matter the country we love to try the local brew, and few cities have the amazing selection and quality of microbrews that Copenhagen, Denmark has.
Carlsberg is one of the most world famous beer names, but the brewery itself and the tour around the grounds is authentic, informative and delicious!
We spent time in their in house tap room sampling all of the beers (for way too long...) before heading out on a tour of the old brewery and the stables.
If you are in Copenhagen and have even the slightest interest in beer, don't miss a visit to the brewery!
It can be a bit tricky to find, as it is somewhat up on a hill in an industrial area of the city so while we like to walk wherever we go, we opted to jump in a cab from the wonderful Radisson Blu Hotel we were staying at just next to Tivoli Gardens and were there in no time.
If you are there near the holidays you can't miss the Christmas beer!

Touring the Carlsberg Beer Brewery in Copenhagen, Denmark
The Carlsberg Group (/ˈkɑrlzbərɡ/; Danish: [kʰɑːˀlsb̥æɐ̯ˀ]) is a Danish brewing company founded in 1847 by J. C. Jacobsen with headquarters located in Copenhagen, Denmark. The company's flagship brand is Carlsberg Beer (named after Jacobsen's son Carl) but it also brews Tuborg, Kronenbourg, Somersby cider, Russia's best selling beer Baltika, Belgian Grimbergen abbey beers and more than 500 local beers.[2]
After merging with the brewery assets of Norwegian conglomerate Orkla ASA in January 2001, Carlsberg became the fifth largest brewery group in the world. It is the leading beer seller in Russia with about 40 percent market share.[3] In 2009 Carlsberg ranked fourth and employed around 45,000 people.[4]
Tuborg Brewery
Tuborg is a Danish brewing company founded in 1873 by Carl Frederik Tietgen. Since 1970 it has been part of the Carlsberg Group. The brewery was founded in Hellerup, a part of northern Copenhagen, Denmark.

Walking Around Horse Stables at Carlsberg Beer Brewery in Copenhagen, Denmark
Carlsberg was founded by J. C. Jacobsen; the first brew was finished on 10 November 1847. Export of Carlsberg beer began in 1868; foreign brewing began in 1968 with the opening of a Carlsberg brewery in Blantyre, Malawi.[5] Some of the company's original logos include an elephant (after which some of its lagers are named) and the swastika. Use of the latter was discontinued in the 1930s because of its association with political parties in neighboring Germany. Carlsberg founder J. C. Jacobsen was a philanthropist and avid art collector. With his fortune he amassed an impressive art collection which is now housed in the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek in central Copenhagen.
Jacobsen set up the Carlsberg Laboratory in 1875 which worked on scientific problems related to brewing. It featured a Department of Chemistry and a Department of Physiology. The species of yeast used to make pale lager, Saccharomyces carlsbergensis, was isolated at the Laboratory and was named after it. The concept of pH was developed there as well as advances in protein chemistry.[6] The laboratory was part of the Carlsberg Foundation until 1972 when it was renamed the Carlsberg Research Center and transferred to the brewery.
The old brewery in Copenhagen is open for tours, and famous visitors have included Winston Churchill, Yuri Gagarin and Queen Elizabeth II.
The first overseas licence for brewing was given to the Photos Photiades Breweries, and in 1966 Carlsberg beer was brewed for the first time outside Denmark at the Photiades breweries in Cyprus.[7]
Carlsberg acquired Tuborg breweries in 1970[5] and merged with Tetley in 1992.
In 2008, Carlsberg Group, together with Heineken, bought Scottish & Newcastle, the largest brewer in the UK, for GBP7.8bn (US$15.3bn).[8]
Brewing a new age: Carlsberg taps technology to modernize a centuries-old company
Once a big brand with a small corporate footprint, Carlsberg became the world’s fourth-largest brewery during the past 20 years as it acquired other beer makers, including Kronenbourg. Carlsberg Group now manages 140 beer brands worldwide. However, integrating all of those breweries marked a new business challenge: merging dozens of IT platforms.

Opening two Carlsberg in Denmark
Had some beers with my friends, and we decided to open two beers in a way that was a bit more interesting.
The video is recorded with my GoPro Hero3 at 240 fps.
The Carlsberg Laboratory
Every pilsner beer brewed in the world today contains yeast originally developed at the Carlsberg Laboratory in Copenhagen.
When the Laboratory was opened in 1875, Carlsberg's founder J.C. Jacobsen intention was to increase the scientific understanding of the malting, brewing and fermenting processes.
The pH scale was also invented here.
