Pub Crawl #1 - North-East Mendips (2016)
A year ago today a friend gave me the keys to his battered Volkswagen Golf and instructed me to drive him and another friend ‘out west’. We headed along the A366 into Mendip District, stopping at fourteen village pubs along the B3139, A367 Fosse Way and Mells Valley before last orders were called.
British pubs are in decline. The secular, traditional glue of community cohesion is being replaced with the insular and disposable coffee shop.
Gone is the religious observance of patronage equal, the opportunity to hear out one man’s problems and debate a solution. Gone is the trade of favours amongst one another for mutual benefit, and gone are the barstool philosophers who underpinned the social conscience that earned the global respect our wind-battered isles enjoy today.
Accompanied by pounding, dirty techno music, I present:
1. The Fleur-de-Leys, Norton St. Philip
2. The George Inn, Norton St. Philip
3. Tucker’s Grave Inn, Faulkland
4. The Faulkland Inn, Faulkland
5. The Jolliffe Arms, Kilmersdon
6. The White Post Inn, Stratton-on-the-Fosse
7. The Redan Inn, Chilcompton
8. The Somerset Wagon, Chilcompton
9. The Old Down Inn, Emborough
10. The George Inn, Gurney Slade
11. The Mendip Inn, Gurney Slade
12. ?
13. The Oakhill Inn, Oakhill
14. The Duke of Cumberland, Holcombe
It’s weird out west (23.01.16).

Firstly this was a mistake as i dont like heights and sort of forgot till i was half way up... dumb. However it was worth it for the drone video as i really liked how the heap looked from up there! Secondly I dont know if this is private land or not... didnt see any signs but wouldnt recommend going into private land if it can be helped.
This slag heap is in Midsomer Norton in Bath and North East Sommerset
