Best Things To Do In The Northwest Territories - Canada Road Trip Travel Documentary
In this video, we share some of the best things to do in the Northwest Territories, including Yellowknife, Inuvik, and Tuktoyaktuk!
Welcome to the NWT!
With more than one million square kilometres of land area and a population of less than 50,000, the Northwest Territories is about as wild as it gets. It's certainly not an easy area to visit (many places are fly-in, many roads are gravel, and distances are vast) but for those who make the effort, there are incredible things to experience.
With boreal forest, arctic tundra, some of Canada's greatest waterfalls, a vibrant indigenous culture, and boundless wilderness, this is an adventurers paradise!
We explored the NWT from August 16 - September 1st, 2017!

Special Note: We just released the Canada Saver Card, a physical discount card that gets you discounts at a variety of attractions, adventures, and activities across Canada! From helicopter tours to rafting, fishing, museums, and horseback rides, save money on all of them for less than $30! -

Dog Sledding in Inuvik NWT
Near the town of Inuvik NWT - I mushed my own dog sled team along with three other teams as we sledded through the tundra and Boreal forest. Carrying along the Canon XLH1 inside a polar bag I shot this footage while exploring the Mackenzie Delta by dog team in the traditional traveling style.

Road to the Arctic Ocean, Driving the Dempster Highway to Tuktoyaktuk | Go North Ep 12
Road to the Arctic Ocean, Driving the Dempster Highway to Tuktoyaktuk | Go North Ep 12
This episode chronicles our trip up the Dempster Highway and the new Inuvik to Tuktoyaktuk Highway that makes it to the Arctic Ocean in Canada.
Check out the associated blog post on our website here -
Road to the Arctic Ocean - Driving the Dempster Highway to Tuktoyaktuk:
The journey starts out at the beginning of the highway in the Yukon territory just south of Dawson City. From here the highway winds through multiple mountain ranges, along rivers and streams, across tundra and flat plains and the massive Mackenzie River delta.
We made stops at Tombstone Territorial Park, Eagle Plains, Fort McPhearson and Inuviuk before making it to Tuktoyaktuk.
The road was generally in good condition when we drove it, but it's very long, dusty in dry weather or muddy in wet and has very limited services, so good vehicle condition and tires are a must. This road traverses some of the most remote land accessible by vehicles in North America.
The Dempster Highway is a popular run for capable RV's, adventure cycles, and overland vehicles, but most any vehicle can make it. We spent almost 3 weeks camping and exploring this road and loved every minute of it.
This episode we take the truck camper as far north as you can drive in Canada on the dempster highway through Inuvik all the way to the arctic ocean and the town of Tuktoyaktuk.

Tundra - Secrets of World Climate, Episode 11
The treeless Arctic. A desolate region, where few things grow. Yet, rich in fauna, both on the land, and at sea, and is the home of an iconic animal in this world of climatic uncertainty. A famous people survive here toughing it out in the most hostile populated climate on earth. A barren land of ice, lake, swamp and grass. This is the northern tip of our planet… this is the tundra.
The eleventh episode in a unique series exploring all the major climate zones of the world that focuses in full high-definition video on real places in each climate zone. In this geography documentary we show this part of the world in its full beauty, and uncover the secrets of why it is that way and show you the lands and settlements that lie within.
The distinguishing feature of the tundra climate is low summer temperatures leading to an absence of tree growth. Winters can be very cold, but also relatively mild, depending upon proximity to the ocean. Permafrost - permanently frozen ground below the surface - exists throughout these regions all year round.
Found all along the coasts of the top of the two northern continents of North America and Eurasia, this climate is the true climate of the Arctic, and these lands form the vast bulk of land area that is called tundra. Mountain tundra occurs in upland areas of Iceland and Norway, along with high mountain areas in the Alps of Europe, the Himalayas of Asia, the Rockies of North America, and the Andes in South America, but such tundra has no permafrost. The same applies to Antarctic tundra, which occurs in small areas around the southern tip of South America, and the northern part of the Antarctic peninsula, where moderating winds from the Southern Ocean keep winter temperatures mild.
Due to the hostility of the climate and the difficulties of building on top of the permafrost, few large settlements occur here, with Nuuk, the capital of Greenland being the largest, with a population of only 18,000
