Tung Chung Fort (Chinese: 東涌古城, 東涌堡 or 東涌炮台; 東涌所城 during Qing Dynasty) is a fort located near Tung Chung, on Lantau Island, in Hong Kong. Located near Tung Chung Road, the fort is surrounded by villages of Sheung Ling Pei (上嶺皮) and Ha Ling Pei (下嶺皮). It has a companion Tung Chung Battery on the coast.

Hong Kong protesters gather outside police station
Hong Kong police fired pepper spray at protesters outside a police station on Tuesday surrounded by hundreds of people after 44 activists were charged with rioting following weekend clashes between protesters and police defending China's representative office.
It was the first time the rioting charge has been used during protests which erupted over an extradition bill that would have allowed people in Hong Kong to be sent to mainland China for trial. Another man was charged with possession of an offensive weapon.
Hundreds of protesters gathered at the Kwai Chung police station where some of the activists were to be freed on bail. Clashes broke out between the protesters and police. One officer brandished a gun to ward off the crowd.
Rioting carries a maximum ten year jail term in Hong Kong. Activists say they have done nothing wrong and are only seeking justice.
Police fired tear gas and rubber bullets on Sunday (July 28) as they sought to defend China's main representative office from protesters who set up road blocks and hurled bricks and sticks.
What started three months ago as rallies against the extradition bill, has evolved into a wider backlash against the city's government and its political masters in Beijing.

Today we went to Inspiration Lake. There is so beautiful and we are lucky that the weather of today is a little bit windy, not so hot. We did Pedal boat in there as well. That was really fun. We are planning to have picnic in there soon.

東涌炮台，又稱為東涌所城或東涌寨城，是香港以前的一個炮台陣地，位於新界大嶼山東涌下嶺皮村，現時已被列入香港法定古蹟。
清朝道光年間，為了阻止鴉片貿易和海盜侵略，當時的清朝水師把附近的大鵬營升為大鵬協，下設左右二營，總部及左營設於深圳的大鵬所城，而右營則是駐在新建的東涌所城，落成於1832年（一說是1817年），設有6門大炮，以控制海面交通。1898年英國租借新界，炮台遂被廢棄。香港日治時期，炮台曾被日軍重建。香港重光後，炮台所在地被用作警署用途，後成為東涌公立學校校址一部份，東涌公立學校於2003年停辦。而炮台所在地於1979年8月24日被列為香港法定古蹟，並曾於1988年全面維修。現在兼為東涌鄉事委員會辦事處和展示廳及東涌商會辦事處。

Close to Tung Chung Road, the fort is surrounded by the villages of Sheung Ling Pei (上嶺皮) and Ha Ling Pei (下嶺皮). It has a companion Tung Chung Battery on the coast.
Tung Chung Fort was built in the Shun Hei era (淳熙, 1174–1189) of the Southern Song dynasty. Smugglers on Lantau Island smuggled salt from the island to Canton City and attacked the government of the city. The government sent a navy led by King Leok Chin (經略錢) to fight against the smugglers. Three hundred soldiers were stationed in Tung Chung and built the Tung Chung Fort. After three years of peace, the soldiers were called back and 150 of them were transferred to build Kowloon Walled City, in which they later stayed.
During the Qing dynasty, many pirates, including the well known Cheung Po Tsai, chose the bay of Tung Chung as their base and made use of the fort. The Qing Government recovered the fort after the surrender of Cheung Po Tsai. In 1832 (or 1817 alternatively) the fort was restricted and garrisoned by the Right Battalion of Tai Peng to defend the coast from pirates until the lease of New Territories to Britain in 1898. The fort was then abandoned.
During World War II, the Japanese army occupied the fort.
Tung Chung Fort went through several transformations later. It served as a police station and then as Wa Ying College. Now, it is the base for the Rural Committee Office and the Tung Chung Public School.
In 1979, it was declared a monument and was refurbished in 1988.
Features[edit]
North gate
There are six still intact old muzzle-loading cannons, each resting on a cement base with enclosures made of granite blocks, which measure 70 by 80 metres (230 by 260 ft). Three arched gateways, each engraved with a Chinese inscription, are spaced along the walls.
Transportation[edit]
The fort can be reached from Mui Wo (Silvermine Bay) bus terminal by taking the no. 3 bus to the Tung Chung terminus and about a half mile walk from the bus stop in the direction of the fort. The fort can also be reached by taking the no. 13 or 14 bus and MTR. Permission is required to drive into the park.

Lantau Island is the largest island in Hong Kong, located at the mouth of the Pearl River. Administratively, most of Lantau Island is part of the Islands District of Hong Kong. A small northeastern portion of the island is located in the Tsuen Wan District.
Originally the site of fishing villages, the island has been developed in recent years with the construction of Tung Chung New Town on its north-western coast and the completion of several major infrastructure projects, including Lantau Link (1997), Hong Kong International Airport (1998), Hong Kong Disneyland (2005) and Ngong Ping 360 (2006).

The Ngong Ping Plateau features the Po Lin Monastery and its vegetarian restaurant, as well as the 85-foot (26 m)-high bronze Tian Tan Buddha (or Giant Buddha) statue, once the world's largest seated outdoor bronze Buddha statue. Walkers can ascend from Tung Chung to the monastery in two hours. Visitors can also take a 25-minute ride on a Ngong Ping 360 from Tung Chung to the Ngong Ping Plateau. Ngong Ping 360 is a tourism experience which combines a 5.7 km cable car journey with a cultural themed village and easy access to the Tian Tan Buddha Statue.
Tai O

Tai O is a fishing town located in the northwest of Lantau Island which is more than three centuries old. Tourists visit Tai O for its several hundred stilt houses (pang uk), though many of those houses were damaged in a fire in July 2000. Tai O retains most of its historical setting such as waterways, stilt houses and fishing boats and it is famous for its fishing village scenery. Traditional Chinese food like salted fish and locally produced shrimp paste can be found there.

Tung Chung Fort was built in 1817 to thwart the opium trade and defend the coast from pirates. There are 6 old cannons and the enclosures are made of granite. During World War II, the Japanese army occupied the fort. In 1979, it was listed as one of the historical monuments of Hong Kong and was refurbished in 1988. The ruins of the Tung Chung Battery, also a historical monument, are located nearby.
Trappist Haven Monastery

The Trappist Haven Monastery at Tai Shui Hang, home to a number of Roman Catholic monks, sits on the east coast of Lantau Island, approximately halfway between the towns of Mui Wo and Discovery Bay. The Lantau Trappist congregation was established in Beijing in the 19th century.

Hong Kong Disneyland lies on the northeastern part of the island, approximately two kilometres from Discovery Bay. It opened on 12 September 2005 on a massive land reclamation project in Penny's Bay. The US$1.8 billion project includes a Disney theme park, three hotels, and retail, dining and entertainment facilities stretching over 1.26 km² (310 acres). The project also has its own rail network linking from Sunny Bay MTR station in Yam O.
Nature
Over 50% of Lantau consists of national parks, including a large number of well-marked trails. The best known of these is the 70 kilometre, 12 section Lantau Trail composed of beauty of natural stone steps and the dense woodland along a 3-kilometer stretch. Section 11 of the Lantau Trail starts just across the Tung Chung Road, which is not far from Ngong Ping 360. This section of the trail will reach South Lantau Road at Pui O and hikers can appreciate the beauty of natural stone steps and the dense woodland along the 3 km journey. The national parks feature campsites and youth hostels. Lantau's longest beach is Cheung Sha and one of its most famous hikes is to Sunset Peak (Tai Tung Shan 大東山), the third highest peak in Hong Kong.
Discovery Bay

Discovery Bay is a privately owned residential development located on the south-eastern coast of Lantau. It has a current population of around 14,300 residents from over 30 different countries, giving it a reputation as an expatriate enclave.

My name is Dennis. In 2009, I open this channel to record or document this city. I know something is being changed in next decade(s), or I felt the change have began since 2003, no later in 2046. I want to, at least, save some kind of city life in video form instead of taken photo or written in words. I strongly believe that motion picture and sound recording are much better way to preserve and present in the future when young generation want to get know of Hong Kong.
In May of 2018, I wrote the following statement in below:
Hi everyone, thank you for supporting me in fulfilling my childhood dream of making videos.
My parents had always taken a tolerant attitude toward my “capricious”: whether my work is feasible and sustainable... and they never complained about it.
As my father just passed away in May, I am left with no choice but to give up my video making venture.
In Hong Kong where the cost of living is sky high, youtube video making is simply not sustainable by google adsense alone. The revenue produced is way too insufficient for affording a domestic helper, and I must look after my mom all by myself - this is why I must stay very close to her at all times.
Unless my revenue is closed to market rate, or my income can cover a domestic helper, otherwise I can hardly justify any video-related works.
Therefore, from now on everything video will be postponed in terms of year(s).

Reason to choose live streaming:
Because I am the only son of my mother in Hong Kong, and I have to take care of her at home. I almost give up this channel because of high consumption of time and living cost. But I found some extra time.
Live streaming will be held anytime from Monday to Saturday 9:00 a.m to 4:00 p.m HKT (GMT +8) at anywhere during my spare time. I live in Fanling, north part of New Territory, so it will include my showtime of traveling back and forth. Because of home care to my old mother, there will be no time beyond above time shown, i.e. NO NIGHT-TIME video. Again, from 9:00 to 16:00 is my bonus time when my mother is staying at the senior daycare center, so before and after that, I will NOT able to do filming.
I understand most of you are looking for high quality of video, e.g. 4K or 8K. But hardware is so important at this post-production, that is, the higher quality video, the higher powerful computer to render video. Financial is my biggest issue, I can't afford to buy an expensive hardware right now. Even previous old 2K recorded video, it wasn't easy at all, one hour video = 1.5 hours of rendering, plus uploading time. How about 1 hour 4K ? = 15 hour up......under this old computer. In order to make it easy for me, live streaming not only save my time but also i can interact with audience, right? But I will continue to make recorded video like before, it maybe situation when signal strength is really poor.
I will continue to run this channel as long as the time is fit-on-me or I don't see any kind of video job could fit me.

The Flea Market on Apliu Street is of course the main reason that visitors will come to our district. This famous attraction runs every day of the week, including weekends and public holidays.
Originally focusing on power tools and audio equipment, such as record players, the market has now grown to encompass a wide range of different products, but still with a technical focus and hardware.
You can still find second hand power tools for sale by street vendors, but the last stall selling collectable Vinyl Records has now moved off the street to a shop space/flat. Read more about Ah Pauls Records for details.
The street is one of the few official Hawker Permitted zones in Hong Kong where fixed pitched licensed hawkers are allow to sell their wares.
To encourage the market to operate safely the highways department has, since 2001, enforced a temporary pedestrian scheme which bans cars from the road between the hours of Noon and 9PM in the evening. Before this time vans and lorries deliver goods to the shops, and the roads are cleaned hence this is a bad time to visit the street.
The market runs until past 9PM most days, later on weekends, though after 10PM most visitors have gone.
An incredible array of different things can be found just from the stalls in the street. Some examples include:
