Tunnel Creek Kimberley Safaris
Tunnel Creek National Park is Western Australia's oldest cave system. Part of the same ancient Devonian reef system as Windjana Gorge, the cave has been carved by the waters of Tunnel Creek flowing beneath the Napier Range. Kimberley Safari Tours are Gibb River Road experts and passionate about enabling you to experience a life changing adventure in this unique area.
You can walk 750 metres into the tunnel, wading waist-deep through freshwater pools. The cave features many beautiful formations, including stalactites and stalagmites, and is also home to a variety of bats, olive pythons and freshwater crocodiles. To experience the cave, take a reliable torch, wear old sneakers and be prepared to get wet.

Tunnel Creek - A walk through - The Kimberleys
You can walk through the tunnel to the other side of the Napier Range. The trek runs underground for 750 metres and you have to wade through several permanent pools and return the same way. At least five species of bats live in the cave, including ghost bats and fruit bats, and stalactites descend from the roof in many places. The roof has collapsed through to the top of the range near the centre of the tunnel. Take a good torch or head light each, wear sneakers and bikini or boardies and be prepared to get wet . We went in june so the water level was only knee depth. No crocs that we saw. Very blood dark(black out dark) in there in some areas, don't forget the torch.

Series 3: Ep6 - The Kimberley: Bell Gorge, Birdwood Downs, Tunnel Creek & Windjana Gorge
Carlisle explores the heart of Jandamarra country, the aboriginal freedom fighter who called the Napier Range home. Bell Gorge is definitely the biggest, if not the best, waterfall along the Gibb River Road. Birdwood Downs is a small eco-friendly station and Tunnel Creek and Windjana Gorge are steeped in history and beauty.

Windjana and Tunnel Creek
Windjana Gorge in the west of the Kimberleys was used in the late 1800;s as a hiding place for the only aboriginal uprising in Australia that threatened the dominance of the white settlement
The uprising was led by Jundamarra a great warrior and tacticion from the Bunaba people
It is also one of the most beautiful places in the Kimberleys, nearby Tunnel creek was used as an escape route as no one knew it went under the towering hills

LOCATION AND CAMPGROUND
Tunnel Creek National Park is about 30 km south east of Windjana Gorge or 175 km from Derby. The small park is not far off the beaten track, you don't need a four wheel drive to get there and it's great fun to explore.
Windjana Gorge has good camping facilities and the Windjana Gorge Campground provides showers, toilets and fire pits.
THE TUNNEL
The tunnel is the oldest cave system in Western Australia. It became famous when aboriginal leader and outlaw Jandamarra was using the Cave of Bats as his hideout. After years of playing hide and seek with the police he ended up being killed in front of it, by another Aboriginal tracker, in 1897.
You can walk through the tunnel to the other side of the Napier Range. The trek runs underground for 750 meters and you have to wade through several pools and return the same way. At the start of the dry season they can be quite deep, and in the middle of the season they are very chilly. The roof has collapsed through to the top of the range near the center of the tunnel.
Different species like bats or freshwater crocodiles live in the cave and stalactites descend from the roof in many places.
TUNNEL CREEK FRESHWATER CROCODILES
When you are entering the Kimberley region, you are entering crocodile country. Freshwater crocodiles inhabit Tunnel Creek. Saltwater crocodiles have not been seen but this may change. So…, just Be CROCWISE !!!
STAGED CROCODILE ATTACK
The last scene has been staged and never happened. Freshwater crocodiles inhabit the tunnel but are not as aggressive as saltwater crocodiles. So don't worry but be Crocwise.
