Alot of people come to Banff and use it as a gateway town to access Banff National Park, the Icefields Parkway, Jasper and possibly in hopes of spotting some grizzly bears. But within the town of Banff itself there is much to see and explore and spending a few days here will not go to waste. I've put together 3 breathtaking hikes, all within walking distance or accessible by a short ride on a free public bus from Banff Town.

The Toe, Tunnel Mountain, Banff Alberta
The Toe starts using the Hoodoo Trail then turns into what is considered the Super G descent which is a super-fun low angle, little braking, little pedalling rip through the trees. From there it flattens out with nice narrow dirt singletrack then a quick climb to a ridge top of baby-heads and marbles. This turns into a quick sidehill section that is quite fun then a quick drop down to Wolf Scat alley.

Quite an easy hike. I've heard about it a lot because it's right in town and the most basic level of fitness can hike it. It's also a year round hike as you can see. This is how I started 4 days of hiking in Banff to get my feet wet in that town and experience some winter hiking as well since this is my first winter hiking season.
This trail is described in the Canadian Rockies Trail Guide. Page 25. Trail 9.

BANFF Gondola Ride! - RV Camping at Tunnel Mountain Trailer Court
We're back in Banff National Park, and this time we ride the actual Banff GONDOLA! We also camp at Tunnel Mountain Trailer Court where the RV gets hook ups! Enjoy the Canada RV travel vlog!
Here we are guys! Back to the beautiful Canadian Rocky Mountains. That casino was a great spot to spend the night, just like it was way back when we first started the adventure across Canada and back. It's located right near Canmore too, which had our favorite Anytime Fitness location throughout the road trip so you know we had to pop in there and get a quick workout in.
It was then time to check in to the Tunnel Mountain campground, located within the Banff National Park area, but slightly away from Downtown Banff itself. Luckily for us there are buses available at the campground for us to get to the Gondola later, and downtown as well of course. We had 2 nights last minute reserved for the Tunnel Mountain Trailer Court section with full hook ups this time. Last time we camped in Banff here we stayed in the Tunnel Mountain Village 2 with electrical just no septic.
It felt great to actually camp and settled down in the mountains again. It has been a busy road trip so to have a barbeque, actually do a bit of woodworking and hanging out was super refreshing. Banff really does have a special feel to it, and you can feel it in how pleasant everyone else camping there is too. Definitely worth spending a few nights at your national parks nearby, even if you boondock and free camp primarily like us! Have to treat yourself once and awhile right?
We also booked tickets for the Banff Gondola, which you have to do in advance for what time you want to go up. We chose to go up near sunset so the lightning would be nice and they don't worry about what time you choose to come down later in the evening. To get to the Banff Gondola, first we had to catch the free bus to downtown Banff from Tunnel Mountain. Once the bus arrives downtown Banff you then have to transfer to the bus that does the gondola loop so be prepared to switch buses! It was great having so much public transportation in Banff atleast so we didn't have to unhook the RV and deal with parking. It makes for an extra adventure right? Haha.
The Gondola itself was smooth and VERY cool. You even get the gondola car to your own party (4) I think, so you can visit with friends and not be crammed in with strangers. The views from the Gondola going up Sulphur Mountain were super cool, as was the top of the mountain. Such a panoramic view of the Canadian Rockies, with a beautiful visitor center and nice walk ways to be accessible for all. It's definitely a must see if you want to really take in the Rocky Mountains. They have restaurants and a cafe up top, with a gift store as well of course, so you know we also got a Banff Gondola Magnet. We knew we had wanted to do this since our first visit to Banff with the RV and it was great to experience now.
And with that RV travel vlog of Banff, we're heading back into beautiful British Columbia everyone! We go back to the spot we spent our first night on the road! It's a beautiful camping spot right on a glacial river!

Day 28 - Lake Louise, Lake Moraine, Tunnel Mountain -Trailer Court Campground, Banff (4K)
CANADA Bound - Day 28 finds us driving down from Yoho National Park to our campsite at Tunnel Mountain - Trailer Court in the town of Banff. Since we planned on stopping at Lake Louise on the way we decided to get an early start and arrived shortly before 9 am. We got one of the last parking spaces in the close parking lot and were grateful we weren't lugging a travel trailer with us. Even then there were quite a few tourists already there and they were rapidly arriving. I showed Yoly the Chateau briefly and we headed out for a quick look at Lake Moraine. By the time we got there, about 11 am, the parking lot was full and we had to park along the road and walk about a mile to get to the water's edge. It's a smaller attraction but equally as crowded for it's size. From there we headed into Banff and located the campground. We managed to finagle a single night at what is called the Trailer Court which has full hook ups. We will have to move tomorrow for a couple nights down the block to Tunnel Mountain Village 2 campground which only has electricity. We catch up on some rest, Yoly does her book-keeping and I play video games. We have a full 2 days of exploring ahead of us so stay tuned :-)

The Cave and Basin National Historic Site of Canada is located in the town of Banff, Alberta, within the Canadian Rocky Mountains, at the site of natural thermal mineral springs around which Canada's first national park, Banff National Park, was established. The Canadian National Park system was effectively born because of the hot springs, discovered accidentally by three Canadian Pacific Railway employees on their day off in 1883, but known to Aboriginals for 10,000 years and a special healing cave. They noticed steam escaping from a large hole in the side of the mountain. One man descended through the skylight entrance into the cave using a felled tree. Further investigation led them to enjoy a dip in the mineral-rich waters of a sulpherous-smelling spring, making them the first white men to bath in what became Banff's renowned Upper Hot Springs at Sulphur Mountain.

Hike to the top of Banff's smallest summit, with moderately steep switchbacks up the forested side of the mountain. At the top, you are rewarded with 360° views of the townsite, the Bow and Spray River valleys, the Banff Springs Golf Course, and surrounding peaks.
The Tunnel Mountain Trail is a 3 mile round trip trail. It should take no longer than 2- 4 hours to complete the adventure and still have some time at the top for a picnic.
