From La Paz we took the night bus to Uyuni, the long tiring journey worth it because Salar de Uyuni is a unique place. Upon our arrival we found a nice café for some coffee energy and then we booked our tour at one of the countless local agents. If you are after a day tour just pick a cheap one but for 2 or 3 day tours choose more wisely as you will spend hours inside a jeep…
The town is boring but we didn’t really care, we came here for the landscape and… oh my… what a place… for two days we saw some really beautiful corners of this planet. Our route was designed to be kind of lazy (with lots of photo stops), in most part away from other groups so we barely met with other tourists (or people in general). Lakes, flamingos, volcanos and the never-ending white of Salar de Uyuni as the highlight. Great place…
This is our video from our 2day tour in Altiplano & Salar de Uyuni

❤ FAQs:
↣ Are you a full time Youtuber?
I work full time online as a 'Digital Nomad' which means I get to travel the world with my fiance (Ed) and not be tied to living in any specific country. I do Freelance PR, teach courses on Udemy (check out my profile here - and of course blogging and Youtube.
↣ What does Pauper To Princess mean?
My passion is all about living like a fabulous Princess on a little Pauper budget. I visit beautiful countries, and buy fabulous clothes but I'm always looking for a way to save money and be thrifty!
↣ When did you start blogging?
I created my blog in 2012 when I was living in America. I was thrifting so much that I wanted to start sharing my outfits online and inspiring other people to look in charity shops. Now it's become all about my Digital Nomad journey and what it's like to be a female nomad.
↣ Where's your accent from?
I'm from the South of England but I currently live out of a suitcase travelling all over the world.
↣ Where is your favourite place in the world?
I fell deeply in love with Gili Air when we visited as a paradise getaway, but Chiang Mai is my favourite place to live. Plus of course, there's no place like home (Dorset in England).

........................................................................................
Salar de Uyuni (or Salar de Tunupa) is the world's largest salt flat at 10,582 kmІ (4,085 square miles). It is located in the Potosн and Oruro departments in southwest Bolivia, near the crest of the Andes, 3,650 meters (11,975 feet) high. The major minerals found in the salar are halite and gypsum.
Formation:
Some 40,000 years ago, the area was part of Lake Minchin, a giant prehistoric lake. When the lake dried, it left behind two modern lakes, Poopу Lake and Uru Uru Lake, and two major salt deserts, Salar de Coipasa and the larger Uyuni. Uyuni is roughly 25 times the size of the Bonneville Salt Flats in the United States.
Economic influence:
Salar de Uyuni is estimated to contain 10 billion tons of salt, of which less than 25,000 tons is extracted annually. All miners working in the Salar belong to Colchani's cooperative. Every November, Salar de Uyuni is also the breeding grounds for three species of South American flamingos: the Chilean, James's and Andean flamingos. It is also a significant tourist destination; highlights include a salt hotel and several so-called islands. As it is so flat it serves as a major transport route across the Bolivian Altiplano.
Also, Salar de Uyuni holds half of the world's reserves of lithium, a metal which is used in high energy density batteries. There is currently no mining plant at the site and the Bolivian government doesn't want to allow exploitation by foreign corporations, but instead it intends to build its own pilot plant.
Satellite calibration:
Due to its large size, smooth surface, high surface reflectivity when covered with shallow water, and minimal elevation deviation, Salar de Uyuni makes an ideal target for the testing and calibration of remote sensing instruments on orbiting satellites used to study the Earth. In addition to providing an excellent target surface the skies above Salar de Uyuni are so clear, and the air so dry, that the surface works up to five times better for satellite calibration than using the surface of the ocean. In September 2002 a team took detailed GPS elevation measurements of a portion of the salt flats. This GPS data was then compared to the data from several ICESat passes over the area were used to evaluate the accuracy and precision of ICESat's instruments.
