The pros of staying in Tunxi instead of out by Huangshan (Yellow) Mountain would have to be Tunxi Ancient Street. This old trading town is an idea spot to locate yourself for trips up the mountain and into the gorgeous Huizhou villages.
Tunxi Ancient Street is lined with wooden buildings and Ming-style Huizhou buildings that date back centuries. Traders once visited Tunxi by river boat, did their trading, slept overnight and departed the next day. Now, throngs of tourists are jowl-to-jowl, wandering up and down the pedestrian street. Souvenirs, food, locals and excellent restaurants.

Chilled day exploring Tunxi in Huangshan, China
Just a chilled day exploring the local town of Tunxi in Huangshan (China). This is the nearest main town to the Yellow Mountains and where we stayed for climbing them. We had a nice walk along the Hengjiang river and explored the Tunxi Ancient Street, which dates back to the Song Dynasty (960-1279). Of course we had to have a few drinks! Then headed back to our hostel after sunset.

Tunxi, a city steep in history, is a great bonus destination for tourists visiting Huangshan. It is the major gateway to Huangshan. You could stay in Tunxi and get to Huangshan Scenic Area in about an hour. Tunxi has budget accommodations, restaurants and something interesting to offer. Don't miss visiting the restored part of the old town near the river (Tunxi Ancient Street), especially in the evening when the red lanterns light up and make for a festive atmosphere. Tunxi Ancient Street is one of China's best antique markets. Don't miss this opportunity or you will regret when you don't see it elsewhere in China.
Two Dinners on Tunxi Ancient Street, Huangshan Area, China
Guide Cindy took us to a restaurant directly on Tunxi Ancient Street frequented by locals and one of her favorite places. The inside decibel level was beyond belief and as fast as people got up from their tables, they were cleaned and filled again. The Chinese subscribe to Travels With Sheila's favorite method of restaurant eating. Come...eat...and leave. No messing around.
One level had counters filled with samples of what was on the menu and Cindy went to browse. Watch the video for what we ate and if you are in Tunxi, look for a restaurant that you enter between long strips of plastic next to a modern restaurant that is floor-to-ceiling glass. You won't be sorry... So good that we ate there two nights in a row.

I tried to make a sunrise stopmotion kinda thing but I don't think it turned out as well as I wanted but oh well haha at least the mountain is pretty.....and I got to try the Dragon's breath dessert thing which was totally cool. Anhui is a pretty great place, 10/10 recommend :D

Huangshan, China's Yellow mountain range, is considered one of the five sacred mountains of China. The whole day we were walking on clouds ~5,500m above sea level.
What do i want to do before i die? Traveling these Chinese destinations are a few out of 250+ items i currently have on my ever-growing list. So grateful I could travel China with my dad, someone that knows a lot about the country and culture.
