Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan (RECHEP ERDOAN) has concluded his Africa tour after he opened Turkey's largest embassy in Africa in the Somali capital, Mogadishu. Erdogan's visit came two days after a Al Shabab suicide car bomb killed 15 people including two lawmakers at the Ambassador Hotel in Mogadishu. Ankara has boosted its relations with Mogadishu over the past five years and is leading the recovery efforts in the Horn of African nation. Turkey has made history in by opening the biggest embassy in Somalia's capital Mogadishu. Ankara says it's a reflection on how the situation in Somalia has improved. Both nations remain committed to battling terrorism, though.
Turkey-Somalia Relations: Largest Turkish overseas military base opens
The Somali government has welcomed a new Turkish military base in Mogadishu. It says the base will help with peacekeeping in the country. It also includes an academy that will offer education to Somali cadets. Ahmed al Burai reports.

Erdogan opens 'largest Turkish embassy' in visit to war-torn Somalia
Turkey president Recep Tayyip Erdogan arrived in Somalia on Friday, amid heavy security, on the third and last leg of his East African tour to open Turkish sponsored projects including health facilities and the largest Turkish embassy in the world.
Turkey's engagement in Somalia has made visible changes to the country in many areas from health to infrastructure.
Bilateral agreements have also been signed, including treaties to train the Somali national army.

Erdogan opens Turkish embassy in Somalia
(3 Jun 2016) Turkey's president opened a new Turkish embassy in Somalia's capital on Friday amid heavy security less than two days after Islamic extremists attacked a hotel in the city, killing 15 people.
The al-Shabab group, which is waging an insurgency against Somalia's weak government, has claimed responsibility for the assault on the Ambassador Hotel in Mogadishu.
This is Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's third visit to Somalia. He is the only non-African president to visit war-ravaged Somalia in decades.
On Friday, Erdogan cut a ribbon to the new beach front Turkish embassy in Mogadishu, calling it the largest and most advanced Turkish embassy in Africa.
During Erdogan's visit to Mogadishu, officials signed several new development agreements.

Suicide bomber attacks Turkish embassy staff in Somalia's capital
A suicide attack on the official residence of the Turkish consulate in Mogadishu killed a Turkish national on Saturday. The Turkish ambassador in Mogadishu however said such terror attacks would not be an obstacle to Turkish aid delivery and help in the reconstruction of Somalia.

Details of the massive bombing in Mogadishu last week have become clearer and intelligence officials in Mogadishu say that the real target was a Turkish military base in the city, the biggest base Turkey has abroad.
After Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan visited Mogadishu in 2011, Somalia has become the largest recipient of Turkish aid in the world.

Somalia: Al-Shababb attack restaurant near Turkish embassy in Mogadishu
Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for a bomb and gun attack on a restaurant close to the Turkish embassy in Mogadishu, on Friday night. Militants initially detonated a car bomb outside the establishment before opening fire on the restaurant, the casualties for the attack is so far not known.

Somalia hosts Turkey's largest overseas military base
Somali and Turkish officials on Saturday officially opened a military training base in the Somali capital, Mogadishu.
The facility is Turkey's largest overseas military training facility. Somalia's Prime Minister, Hassan Ali Khyare, was joined by the Turkish army chief, General Hulusi Akar and other top officials for the ceremony.

Al Shabab claims attack on beach restaurant near Turkish embassy in Somalia
Al Shabab militants have claimed a bomb attack on a beach restaurant in the Somali capital Mogadishu on Thursday evening.
According to police sources, a car bomb exploded first at Banadir restaurant at Lido beach following which there was a fierce exchange of gunfire with security guards and government forces.

Turkey opens largest overseas army base in Somalia
Turkey has set up its biggest overseas military base in the Somali capital, Mogadishu, increasing Turkish presence in the Horn of Africa country.
Officially opened on Saturday, the base, which reportedly cost $50m, will train 10,000 Somali troops and has the capacity to train at least 1,500 soldiers at a time, according to Turkish and Somali officials.
