Turku (Finland) : tourist guide in english - guide tour of Turku Castle ????????
The Castle and Cathedral are the two poles of historic Turku, between which just about every important site in the city can be found. The City of Turku came into existence at Koroinen, a few kilometres from the Turku market square. Trading took place on this historic site as early as in the 1150's, and in 1229, the bishopric was transferred there as well. The year 1229 is also regarded as the year in which the City of Turku was founded.
It all began on the Aura river. Do you know how to recognise a European city dating from the Middle Ages? A riverfront, market square, castle and cathedral, just to name a few. Sounds familiar – in fact, it sounds just like Turku. Turku is not only the one city in Finland that meets the above description, it is also a destination filled with events and things to do, not to mention the European Capital of Culture for 2011.
You are most welcome to come and enjoy yourself in the cradle of history and culture!

Turku │Turku Castle - Turku Cathedral - Mikaelinkirkko
Hey again to Finland - for some it might be a small unknown cities for others it is a place with medieval background. I haven't spent hours in Turku but it was enough to get a very small overview for certain sights.
The Turku castle - what's so special about it? Normally such castles are widespread in Germany, but not in Finland - but there is such one. Furthermore like in other cities you got a lot of churches and market squares.
But what was most exciting for me were the different Finnish wooden houses. They are not painted in that typical Falunröd like houses in Sweden are. These Finnish houses, I have seen, were all covered with different colors - they somehow reminded me of American casual farm houses - or if you know Pippi Långstrump, the colored 'Villa Villekulla'.
See you next time ...if you like!

Turku Castle from the sky.
Another mostly unedited video as the weather was somewhat obstructive for recording (mostly flying) and I did not get much footage to edit.
Anyway, if one is interested in castles and for some bizarre reason finds oneself in the Turku region, I wholeheartedly recommend visiting the Turku Castle. The thing is a bloody TARDIS, they have managed to contain an entire museum within the stony walls. They offer guided tours and the guides seemed to speak commendable English as well.
The official site for the castle can be found through the link below
