Still in Karlsruhe we went up to the Turmberg in Durlach, a popular destination in the city that can be reached via various routes. You can get there easily by car or take the Turmbergbahn, a small train, that is going up the mountain since 1888. Alternatively you can walk up the mountain by taking the Hexenstäffele, a stairway with 528 steps that gets you directly to the tower. From up there you have an amazing view over Durlach, the city Karlsruhe, the Rhine valley and the whole region. But check out the video and see for yourself.

The Turmberg is a hill located in Durlach, a suburb of Karlsruhe in Germany. It is home to a castle ruin. The Turmberg can be reached by the Turmbergbahn, a funicular railway. The original railway used water to weight the rail cars, but now it is run on electric.
The Turmberg is a popular excursion destination and can be reached via various routes. The Turmbergbahn has been going up the mountain since 1888. It is the oldest funicular still running in Germany. Alternatively, the mountain can be reached via the Witches' Stave, a stairway that leads in 528 steps directly from Durlach to the Turmberg. From the top there is a beautiful view of the Rhine valley and the urban area of Durlach and Karlsruhe. Some beautiful hiking trails invite you to a tour. A large playground and the 2010 completed forest ropes course complete the offer.
The tower mountain has its name from an old tower building from the late Staufer period. During excavations, the foundations of a tower still 200 years older were found right next to it. These are the remains of the castrum Gretzingen, ie the castle of Grötzingen. The Pfinzgaugrafen from the Hohenberger family had their headquarters here in the 11th and 12th centuries and exercised rights of domination on behalf of the Salier kings. The residential tower was one of the earliest noble mountain castles in the German southwest, which testifies to the self-confidence of the owners. Between 1230 and 1250, the old residential tower was demolished and instead a slimmer keep built into the surrounding wall was built.
Today's 28 meter high tower is characterized by the Staufer time typical robust and defensively acting, on the edges clean misted humpback cuboid. Heute besuche ich den Hausberg von Karlsruhe, den Turmberg. Er ist in Durlach, einem Stadtteil von Karlsruhe. 1781 schon wurde ein Treppenweg, das sogenannte Hexenstäffele, angelegt, welcher mit 528 Treppen auf direktem Weg von Durlach auf den Turmberg führt. Der Treppenweg beginnt in der Posseltstraße ca. 100 m rechts der Talstation der Turmbergbahn und endet an der der Bergstation gegenüberliegenden Seite der Aussichtsplattform. Im Rahmen der Bauarbeiten für die Neugestaltung der Turmbergterrasse wird momentan auch der obere Teil des Hexenstäffele erneuert und ist bis Frühjahr 2015 gesperrt.

Ewentualnie do góry można dotrzeć przez Czarownice, schody prowadzące w 528 krokach bezpośrednio z Durlach do Turmberg. Ze szczytu roztacza się piękny widok na dolinę Renu i miejską dzielnicę Durlach i Karlsruhe. Niektóre piękne szlaki turystyczne zapraszają na wycieczkę. Duży plac zabaw i ukończony w 2010 roku park linowy uzupełniają ofertę.
Der Turmberg ist ein beliebtes Ausflugziel und über verschiedene Wege zu erreichen. Die Turmbergbahn fährt seit 1888 den Berg hinauf. Sie ist die älteste noch im Betrieb befindliche Standseilbahn Deutschlands. Alternativ kann der Berg über die Hexenstäffele erreicht werden, einen Treppenweg, der in 528 Stufen auf direktem Weg von Durlach auf den Turmberg führt. Von oben bietet sich ein wunderschöner Blick auf die Rheinebene und das Stadtgebiet von Durlach und Karlsruhe. Einige schöne Wanderwege laden zum Rundgang ein. Ein großer Spielplatz und der 2010 fertig gestellte Waldseilpark runden das Angebot ab.
