This is one of the most beautiful drives in America. From Anchorage, we take the Seward Highway southbound, out of town, across Potter Marsh and onto the coast of Turnagain Arm, for a stunning view of the Kenai Peninsula's snow-capped mountains. The video ends with a brief tour of the Alyeska Resort area, at the upper end of Turnagain Arm.

TURNAGAIN ARM TRAIL - Anchorage Alaska - Gopro 5 Camera
Several video clips showing the Turnagain Arm Trail located just south of Anchorage Alaska. We started at the Potter Marsh trail head walking 3.3 miles to McHugh Creek before returning to Potter Marsh. We saw a moose and some bear scat on the trail. The video clips are on the return hike going towards the north. Lots and lots of video of showing the trail with trees. Beautiful scenery to me but if you want views of the ocean/Turnagain Arm skip forward to approximately 8:09 and 14:04 of the video. I prefer the sounds of nature but we went as a family and did lots of chit chatting I didn't want on the video. I added some music that seems to fit the hike.
Recorded with a handheld Gopro Hero 5 set at 1080p & 60 fps with image stabilization.

The Drive to Kenai Peninsula from Anchorage: Seward Highway, Turnagain Arm
Luv 2 Drivelapse? - Like for updates & great travel ideas
This is one of the most beautiful drives you can imagine. From the south end of Anchorage, head across Potter Marsh towards the edge of Turnagain Arm, and ride for miles with an amazing view of mountains and water ahead of, and beside of you. The drive continues onto the Kenai Peninsula. It ends at the junction with Route 9 and Sterling Highway at Tern Lake.

New Seward Highway Anchorage To Girdwood (Alaska) GoPro 2 HD Hero Camera
I decided to give my GoPro suction cup mount a try by placing it on the hood of my vehicle. I drove southbound on the New Seward Highway (listed as a National Scenic Byway) from just north of Huffman Road to Crow Creek Road in Girdwood. The Ocean, Turnagain Arm, is visible to the right/west of the video most of the time. I used my GoPro 2 HD camera with a 720 60 fps setting.
Hey Mom from Alaska - Tram at Alyeska Resort in Girdwood Alaska.
South of Anchorage, AK we stayed at the Alyeska Resort in Girdwood, AK. Great little resort town with amazing restaurants. We had been here in the Winter as well. We were with a talkative group and an informative Tram operator so there was no reason to say much. At about 1/2 way you can see the other tram coming up, and shortly after you can see the resort.
The scenes are amazing. The water you can see in the distance is the turnagain arm

Alaska Turnagain Arm Drive from Anchorage to Seward Dashcam
Dashcam footage from driving the Turnagain Arm and Seward Highway from Anchorage, AK to Seward, AK in May 2017. Stopped in a few places to take pictures.
Filmed with GoPro Hero Session:
Turnagain Arm and the Portage Valley
In 1778, Captain Cook sailed from England to Tahiti, and then northwards where he discovered the Hawaiian Islands, before exploring and charting the coastline of the Pacific Northwest and present-day Alaska. (Eventually, in 1779, Cook sailed back to the Hawaiian Islands — there he was killed in a skirmish).
According to Admiralty Orders, Cook’s main mission was to search for a Northwest Passage — i.e. a northern sea route linking the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. Sailing along the present-day Alaskan coastline, Cook’s Sailing Master, William Bligh (later captain of the ill-fated of HMS Bounty) confirmed that the two major inland inlets at the northern end of the Cook Inlet only led to rivers. Bligh also noted that a large tidal range in the west-east inlet exposed wide silt beds at low tide — as a result, this inlet was labeled “Turn Again”.
Today, the Seward Highway is a scenic highway along the eastern shore of the Turnagain Arm, and is therefore a popular tourist route from the Anchorage area. From this highway, the inlet seascape is framed by the powder-blue mountains and glaciers of the Chugach State Park and the Chugach State Forest.
At the end of the Turnagain Arm, the Portage Glacier Highway follows the Portage River through the Portage Valley. At the Williwaw Fish Viewing Platform, spawning sockeye, chum and coho salmon roil the shallow waters of the Williwaw Creek during early August until mid-September.
Originally, the Portage Glacier filled the entire valley, but now the surrounding mountains contain only remnant hanging glaciers — Explorer, Middle, Byron, Burns and Shakespeare Glaciers. At the head of the valley lies Portage Lake — in 1911, this 3-mile (5 km.) lake was totally covered by the Portage Glacier, but now this glacier has retreated all of the way to the eastern end of the lake.
