Covington K-9 officer, dog injured in overnight hit-and-run
FLORENCE, Ky. (WKRC) - Florence Police have located a truck used in Wednesday night's hit-and-run accident that has temporarily sidelined well-known Covington K-9 Officer Michael Lusardi and his dog, Ernie.
It will be up to the doctors to tell us when he can come back to work, said Covington Assistant Police Chief Brian Steffen. And the veterinarians will tell us when Ernie can come back to work.
Both suffered minor injuries in the hit-and-run that took place on Interstate 75 in Florence June 1. The two were on their way back to Lusardi's home after a training session.
Lusardi and Ernie have had an eventful couple of years. In April 2015, Ernie was shot in the foot when a suspect fired at Lusardi. In January 2015, Lusardi helped rescue an 8-year-old girl from a trailer fire in Latonia. It was later discovered the fire was set to silence the girl's child abuse complaints. This winter, the girl's testimony helped prosecutors convict Ronald King who was sentenced to life in prison for sex abuse and sodomy.
Officer Lusardi is a street police officer and K-9 handler who likes to fight crime,Steffen said. We're happy to have him and can't wait to have him back.
Lusardi managed to get a description of the black truck that sideswiped his cruiser. Following a TV broadcast of that description, a man in Bellevue spotted a heavily damaged truck at the corner of Glazier and Taylor Avenues. He contacted police.
Our investigator went down there to try and match up some of the things that were left behind,said Florence Police Captain Tom Grau. One of them was the grill from the truck that was left at the scene.
It matched. Florence investigators were able to track down the truck owner who said he had loaned it out that night. Police believe his story and said he was cooperating.
If found, the driver will likely be charged with leaving the scene of a crime.

FOX 5 News was there as police and state fraud investigators arrested Earle M. Turner Sr. at his Covington Highway office.

Detectives said they began investigating Turner last May when an insurance company contacted the Georgia Department of Insurance after realizing they had three life insurance policies with Turner listed as the beneficiary. The policyholders had no idea, according to police.
The 67-year-old Certified Public Accountant (CPA) has been charged with 19 counts of insurance fraud, 11 counts of identity fraud, and one count of theft by deception.
Police said all of the victims were Turner's clients, who he was filing taxes for.
If convicted, Turner could face up to 10 years in state prison.

SUMMARY
=======
Georgia is a state in the Southeastern United States. It began as a British colony in 1733, the last and southernmost of the original Thirteen Colonies to be established. Named after King George II of Great Britain, the Province of Georgia covered the area from South Carolina down to Spanish Florida and New France along Louisiana (New France), also bordering to the west towards the Mississippi River. Georgia was the fourth state to ratify the United States Constitution, on January 2, 1788. In 1802–1804, western Georgia was split to the Mississippi Territory, which later split to form Alabama with part of former West Florida in 1819. Georgia declared its secession from the Union on January 19, 1861, and was one of the original seven Confederate states. It was the last state to be restored to the Union, on July 15, 1870. Georgia is the 24th largest and the 8th most populous of the 50 United States. From 2007 to 2008, 14 of Georgia's counties ranked among the nation's 100 fastest-growing, second only to Texas. Georgia is known as the Peach State and the Empire State of the South. Atlanta, the state's capital and most populous city, has been named a global city.
Georgia is bordered to the north by Tennessee and North Carolina, to the northeast by South Carolina, to the southeast by the Atlantic Ocean, to the south by Florida, and to the west by Alabama. The state's northernmost part is in the Blue Ridge Mountains, part of the Appalachian Mountains system. The Piedmont extends through the central part of the state from the foothills of the Blue Ridge to the Fall Line, where the rivers cascade down in elevation to the coastal plain of the state's southern part. Georgia's highest point is Brasstown Bald at 4,784 feet (1,458 m) above sea level; the lowest is the Atlantic Ocean. Of the states entirely east of the Mississippi River, Georgia is the largest in land area.

War of 1812 | Wikipedia audio article
The War of 1812 was a conflict fought between the United States, the United Kingdom, and their respective allies from June 1812 to February 1815. Historians in Britain often see it as a minor theater of the Napoleonic Wars; in the United States and Canada, it is seen as a war in its own right.
From the outbreak of war with Napoleonic France, Britain had enforced a naval blockade to choke off neutral trade to France, which the US contested as illegal under international law. To man the blockade, Britain impressed American merchant sailors into the Royal Navy. Incidents such as the Chesapeake–Leopard affair inflamed anti-British sentiment in the US. In 1811, the British were in turn outraged by the Little Belt affair, in which 11 British sailors died. Britain supplied Indians who raided American settlers on the frontier, hindering American expansion and provoking resentment. Historians debate whether the desire to annex some or all of British North America (Canada) contributed to the American decision to go to war. On June 18, 1812, US President James Madison, after heavy pressure from the War Hawks in Congress, signed the American declaration of war into law.With most of its army in Europe fighting Napoleon, Britain adopted a defensive strategy. American prosecution of the war effort suffered from its unpopularity, especially in New England, where it was derogatorily referred to as Mr. Madison's War. American defeats at the Siege of Detroit and the Battle of Queenston Heights thwarted attempts to seize Upper Canada, improving British morale. American attempts to invade Lower Canada and capture Montreal also failed. In 1813, the Americans won the Battle of Lake Erie, gaining control of the lake, and at the Battle of the Thames defeated Tecumseh's Confederacy, securing a primary war goal. A final American attempt to invade Canada was fought to a draw at the Battle of Lundy's Lane during the summer of 1814. At sea, the powerful Royal Navy blockaded American ports, cutting off trade and allowing the British to raid the coast at will. In 1814, one of these raids burned the capital, Washington, although the Americans later repulsed British attempts to invade New England and capture Baltimore.
In Britain, there was mounting opposition to wartime taxation and demands to reopen trade with America. With the abdication of Napoleon, the blockade of France ended and Britain ceased impressment, rendering the issue of the impressment of American sailors moot. The British were then able to increase the strength of the blockade on the United States coast, annihilating American maritime trade and bringing the US government near to bankruptcy. Neither side wanted to continue fighting. Peace negotiations began in August 1814, and the Treaty of Ghent was signed on December 24. News of the peace did not reach America for some time. Unaware of the treaty, British forces invaded Louisiana and were defeated at the Battle of New Orleans in January 1815. These late victories were viewed by Americans as having restored national honour, leading to the collapse of anti-war sentiment and the beginning of the Era of Good Feelings, a period of national unity. News of the treaty arrived shortly thereafter, halting military operations. The treaty was unanimously ratified by the US Senate on February 17, 1815, ending the war with no boundary changes.

SUMMARY
=======
Country music, also known as country and western (or simply country), and hillbilly music, is a genre of popular music that originated in the southern United States in the early 1920s. It takes its roots from genres such as American folk music (especially Appalachian folk and Western music) and blues.
Country music often consists of ballads and dance tunes with generally simple forms, folk lyrics, and harmonies mostly accompanied by string instruments such as banjos, electric and acoustic guitars, steel guitars (such as pedal steels and dobros), and fiddles as well as harmonicas. Blues modes have been used extensively throughout its recorded history.According to Lindsey Starnes, the term country music gained popularity in the 1940s in preference to the earlier term hillbilly music; it came to encompass Western music, which evolved parallel to hillbilly music from similar roots, in the mid-20th century. In 2009 in the United States, country music was the most listened to rush hour radio genre during the evening commute, and second most popular in the morning commute.The term country music is used today to describe many styles and subgenres. The origins of country music are found in the folk music of working class Americans, who blended popular songs, Irish and Celtic fiddle tunes, traditional English ballads, cowboy songs, and the musical traditions of various groups of European immigrants.
