Turtle Airways Seaplane flight from Nadi (Fiji Island) to Nanuya Island Resort (Fiji Yasawa Islands)
great flight with Turtle Airways filmed with a GoPro HD Hero2 on board a Cessna Seaplane with a very cool mexican pilot. Flight from Nadi (Fiji Main-Island) to the Yasawa Islands - Nanuya Island Resort.
Just AMAZING!
Near crash with Turtle Airways seaplane, Paradise Cove Resort, Fiji
Our family had booked transfer with a seaplane from Turtle Airways from Paradise Cove Resort on Fiji to Nadi. On the flight was also a German couple.
The waves were relatively high on the day of departure and the pilot wanted to drift a bit backwards towards more sheltered waters before taking off. (He should have landed further back, as other planes usually did, and then this would not have been an issue).
Note that the 'landing strip' for seaplanes at Paradise Cove is partly in a channel/sound between two islands.
However, the current went in opposite direction to the waves and was also stronger resulting in us drifting 'the wrong way'. The pilot informed us that the wave height was too large to turn the plane around and taxi further back.
In the end he gave up and said we would take off from where we were and warned us that it would be bumpy.
For some reason his take-off path took us diagonally across the sound and gradually closer to the cliffs of the island. We got very close before the plane started to get airborne and we 'jumped' on the waves a few times.
To make matters worse as we got really close to the island one of the pontoons hit a wave and threw us laterally towards the cliffs.
We were just a few meters from crashing and killing all aboard.
The pilot apologized afterwards and admitted that it was too close...
When asked he estimated the distance to the cliff to be maybe 200 feet, but when all passengers voiced that it must have been much closer he did not argue the point...
People from the resort were watching from the beach and they later told us they were certain we were going to crash and they were in fact in the process of launching a boat to come to our rescue.
Watch the vid and judge for yourselves.
I would strongly advice against booking Turtle Airlines for tranfers between Nadi and vacation resorts on Fiji.

The Island nation of Fiji is truly a vacationers paradise. Located in the temperate South Pacific, the islands of Fiji are dotted with some of the most breathtaking resorts known to man. If you love the water, the beach and the sun, or just being in a natural setting, then Fiji is for you.
For most people, a vacation to the islands of Fiji is a truly memorable experience. Many people choose to take their Fiji vacation to the outlying islands of the Mamanuca or Yasawa Island Chain. These islands offer the vacationer a unique experience in an exquisite setting.
Of course, getting to the Yasawa islands can be a challenge if you have never been before. Located in Fiji’s Western Division, the Yasawa Island group is inaccessible to large international jets. Our low flying scenic flights will whisk you away to your destination flying low enough that you can see the stunning soft coral reefs under the waves, and we will fly you over the tree tops of the amazing volcanic islands that make up the Yasawa island chain.

Explore The Yasawas with Turtle Airways, Fiji
Flying over the yasawas was truly extraordinary! Being able to capture views like this, from the small plane, is every photographer's dream. I have flown in a small plane as this one before, but never over oceans; Africa's safari. The pilot was very professional and very experienced. It was a very smooth ride from Turtle Island, Yasawas, to Viti Levu.

With the stresses of modern living being brought into every aspect of our lives via technology, a lot of people want their vacations to not just be a getaway from their personal lives, but a getaway from society altogether. Because of this, remote destinations like Fiji’s magnificent Yasawa Island Group are becoming the go-to vacation destination for the sophisticated traveler.
The Yasawa Island group was formed by volcanoes millions of years ago. They soon became covered in lush vegetation, and have remained pretty much the same ever since. The islands are dotted with small villages where the local Fijians tend to live in much the same way that they have lived for thousands of years.
With the exception of a few small resorts, the Yasawa Island Group was free of tourism up until 1987 when the government of Fiji finally decided to allow tourists to step foot on these largely pristine islands. Although several more resorts have sprung up since 1987, the islands are still very much in their natural state. You won’t find any strip malls or fast food restaurants on these South Pacific islands.
With the southern most islands in the Yasawa Island Chain being about 30 miles from the port in Nadi, and with the island chain stretching out across almost 60 miles of beautiful South Pacific waters, getting around the Yasawa Island Chain can be a bit tricky if you do not plan ahead.
There is a ferry that travels from Nadi to the Yasawa Island Chain once per day. It takes about 4 or 5 hours to get there (depending on where in the Yasawa you are going). However, if you want to get anywhere in the Yasawa Island chain at any time of day in about 30 minutes, you can book a flight with Turtle Airways.
Turtle Airways has multiple flights leaving Nadi per day, and will deliver you right to the beach of your chosen resort. Turtle Airways also offers day trips to anyplace in the Yasawa Island Chain, and is available for low flying scenic flights as well.
So if you are headed to the Yasawa Islands, contact Turtle Airways to make your trip more convenient, more exciting, and more relaxing.
No-frills chic in Fijis Yasawa islands
You may have heard people talking about No-Frills Chic, or Frugal Chic. It seems to be all the rage these days. The basic concept of No-Frills Chic is getting something that is usually considered expensive, like excellent customer service, or top tier design, for a budget price.
We like to think that the resorts in Fiji’s Yasawa island chain have been doing that for years. Most people would think that a tropical getaway on a remote south Pacific island would be a vacation for the rich and famous, but Fiji’s yasawa islands are known for what they call “backpacker resorts”. These are smaller resorts that cater to budget travelers. Many of these resorts have dorm style accommodations for an extremely low price, and although you can get a private beachfront villa if you want, you can stay on the cheap in one of these Dorms as well.
Besides the privacy and the price, everything else about these resorts stays the same whether you are paying top dollar or budget fare. You still have the same access to the beautiful lagoons, and the snorkeling and scuba diving along the magnificent reefs, toy still have access to the kayaking and fishing. You can still enjoy an amazing Fiji vacation without the huge price tag that most people think comes with it.
You can even fly to your resort in the Yasawa islands, and around the Yasawa islands in a Turtle Airways seaplane for far less then you would expect to pay. And all of that with top quality service, and beach to beach travel. And is there anything more Chic then landing on the beach of your south Pacific resort ready to enjoy the beach the moment you get there? It sure beats spending 5 hours on a boat transfer.

5 reasons to see Fiji in a pacific island seaplane
5 Reasons to see Fiji from the Air in a Pacific Island Seaplane
If you are planning on a vacation to the pacific island paradise of Fiji, then don’t miss out on an amazing scenic flight in a pacific island seaplane! There are dozens of reasons to take a seaplane when traveling between the islands of Fiji, but here are our top 5:
A Seaplane can bring you to remote locations, and won’t take all day getting there! That’s right, a boat trip from Nadi on the big island of Viti Levu to the Yasawa island chain takes over 4 hours each way! In a seaplane, you can get to the Yasawa in about 30 minutes.
You don’t have to worry about getting seasick in a seaplane. From Nadi to Yasawa is about 50 miles (that is almost as far as from Florida to the Bahamas). 50 miles in open water can run into some choppy seas. And 4 hours of choppy seas can lead to an upset stomach. Who wants to start their vacation off with an upset stomach? Take a pacific island seaplane and avoid the waves!
You can spend the afternoon on a deserted island, and be back at your resort for dinner! With over 300 islands, and 500 islets, Fiji has plenty of deserted islands that you can spend an afternoon on! Take a seaplane to one of these romantic, secluded getaways, and you have time to lounge around on the island all day in complete privacy, and fly back to your resort in time for a romantic diner!
Who doesn’t like taking pictures? Imagine the photographic opportunities you’ll have from a seaplane. Who doesn’t love taking amazing photographs on their vacation? And what can be more amazing then photos you take during a low flying scenic flight above uninhabited volcanic islands, coral reefs, and shimmering lagoons? These flights are once in a lifetime photographic experiences that anyone who travels to Fiji should take part in.
Flying in a seaplane is worth it just so you can say you’ve done it. We have all taken a flight from some crowded airport in a big commercial jet. Most of us have been boating. But how many people have taken off in a small plane from the water? It is an exhilarating experience that you have to try. And what better place to try it then Fiji.
