Turtle Encounter 2019 || Mon Repos Turtle Centre || Bargara, Queensland
25 January 2019. Booked tickets a month in advance to see the turtles and we ended up being in the last group (Group 5) already! Got bit disappointed as I've read from reviews that it's best to be in the first few groups see the turtles earlier in the night. I beg to differ! I had a wonderful time regardless. Being in the last group, we were not rushed and we got to spend time on the beach til very late.
We got to the car park at 18:30, took a free shuttle bus to the Turtle Centre and lined up to get in. We sat at the Ampitheatre until about 21:30 watching videos, eating and playing with another guest's kid lol it was all worth the wait! We got to see the red moon rising from the sea (it was magical!) as we were appoaching a loggerhead turtle digging a nest and laying her eggs. I found that everything was organised, the guides were accommodating and approachable, and we were lucky to see both laying eggs and hatchlings that night. There was more to the whole encounter than the video above. Highly recommend this trip if you're near Bargara! Click here for bookings and more info:

Mon Repos Turtle Rookery - Southern Great Barrier Reef
Experience a unique Queensland Natural Encounter on a nightly tour at Mon Repos during Turtle Season. From November to March every year, you can be witness to one of the true wonders of the natural world at Australia's best known and most accessible sea turtle rookery, just 15 kilometres from Bundaberg and five minutes from Bargara.
Your turtle encounter begins at the Mon Repos information centre, with displays telling the story of the turtle's amazing survival and the conservation efforts of the dedicated staff, volunteers and the Bundaberg community. Rangers will then guide groups down to the beach to witness the turtles lay their eggs or hatchlings emerge from their nests - you may even be invited to help relocate a turtle's nest or lead the hatchlings to the ocean.
Turtle watching is very popular and bookings are essential. Bookings can be made through the Bundaberg Visitor Information Centre by visiting the website or contacting the number below.
