????Visiting the Charles Darwin Research Center in Galapagos Islands ????????Santa Cruz Island Ecuador
Each island within the Galapagos has a unique species of tortoise. Visiting the Charles Darwin Research Center on Santa Cruz is a great way to see the different sub-species of Galapagos tortoises, the Galapagos finches, and many of the other plant species.
Although it is not uncommon to stumble upon some of these gentle giants as you begin exploring the island outside of Puerto Ayora, the research center provides a great way to get up close to the best part - BABY TURTLES! The site is also the former home of the late Lonesome George, the last of his sub-species of tortoise.
We had rented bikes for the day so we took the rest of the daylight exploring the island and stumbling into various tanning spots for the marine iguanas. As usual, we opted to avoid the touristy crowds and dine with the locals, so we capped the night off with dinner and drinks at a night-market hidden just off the main strip (Av. Seymour).

Turtles mating in groups at Black Turtle Cove Galapagos (4K)
Early morning excursion into the Black Turtle Cove, which is on Santa Cruz where we witnessed many groups of galapagos water turtles mating with several males on top of femals. Also some underwater shots of galapagos sharks, turtles and fish. The underwater footage was shot on GoPro Hero 3 in 2.7k and most above water shots come from Sony FDR AX-33 in 4k. Music by bensound
The Galapagos Islands - Day Trips
The Galapagos Islands, Ecuador - Day Trips.
The islands can be accessed through cruises or day trips from Puerto Ayora - the main city on the island of Santa Cruz. I chose the day trip options due to price concerns ($1500 for everything) of a solo traveler, and was still able to see multiple islands, tortoises, animals, lava tunnels, volcanoes, ect. The place really is diverse and can be seen without breaking the bank.
I went to Isabella Island as I was told the island was the most diverse in the Galapagos - and because I came during Easter weekend and the Bartolome island trip was fully booked. I saw the yellow iguanas, marine iguanas, penguins, seals, sea turtles, and amazing fish. I was also able to hike the active Sierra Negra volcano and surf the clear blue waters.
Warning. Make sure you watch what you eat. I ate local lobster and got severely sick - it stuck with me for weeks. I mentioned this to other travelers and heard the same story. Mind you, i was eating awesome street food. It may be more of a water issue.
Please like or comment. (I was-trying a few new things with this edits, so I know its not as good as my other videos. Apologies)
