Upwind to Bargara Turtle Park
Kited up Kelly's beach on a Northerly, but the wind was better out further past the shark buoys. Tacked up to the basin and was going out far enough that I could see around the point to Bargara central. With good, consistent wind I made it to the Bargara beach down from the Turtle Park in 2 more tacks. Quite a fun little beach that catches a northerly pretty well.
Next trek, Neilson's.

Turtle Encounter 2019 || Mon Repos Turtle Centre || Bargara, Queensland
25 January 2019. Booked tickets a month in advance to see the turtles and we ended up being in the last group (Group 5) already! Got bit disappointed as I've read from reviews that it's best to be in the first few groups see the turtles earlier in the night. I beg to differ! I had a wonderful time regardless. Being in the last group, we were not rushed and we got to spend time on the beach til very late.
We got to the car park at 18:30, took a free shuttle bus to the Turtle Centre and lined up to get in. We sat at the Ampitheatre until about 21:30 watching videos, eating and playing with another guest's kid lol it was all worth the wait! We got to see the red moon rising from the sea (it was magical!) as we were appoaching a loggerhead turtle digging a nest and laying her eggs. I found that everything was organised, the guides were accommodating and approachable, and we were lucky to see both laying eggs and hatchlings that night. There was more to the whole encounter than the video above. Highly recommend this trip if you're near Bargara! Click here for bookings and more info:

Diving at Turtle Cove
These sea turtles have no fear of humans at Turtle Cove. This area is in the vicinity of Waikiki, O'ahu, Hawaii. The turtles are protected by law, and if one is caught touching them the fine is $10,000. Due to the lack of contact, these animals seem to be completely content allowing you to swim right up to them to take pictures or video. They are beautiful creatures, resting on the rockwork or swimming lazily while tangs clean their shells of algae.

Bundaberg Turtles!
Check out the turtles nesting at Mon Repos Conservation Park, Australia!
Bargara Baby Turtle at Kelly's Beach. 2nd Feb. 2019
Mon Repos featured on Sunrise morning show: 23rd January 2014
The Mon Repos Conservation Park near Bundaberg is home to the largest loggerhead turtle rookery in the South Pacific and is a regular nesting site for loggerhead, flatback and green turtles between November and March each year.
Combined with record high tides, the weather events of 2013 caused serious beach erosion, sweeping away an estimated 60 percent of last year's clutches of eggs.
Now, at the height of the 2013/14 season, the turtles are back and in a spectacular display of Mother Nature's bounty, hundreds of hatchlings are emerging from their nests and heading into the big ocean unknown.
Between November and January, mature female turtles burrow deep into the sand in the darkness of night to lay as many as 130 eggs per clutch before returning exhausted to the water. The hatchlings then incubate for eight weeks before breaking out of the nest and hurling themselves toward the ocean.
Head of Queensland's loggerhead turtle research program Dr Col Limpus said the tireless efforts of volunteers and rangers over the past four decades to protect loggerhead turtles in the state's national parks was yielding amazing results.
The sight of an ancient mariner dragging its body up the beach for nesting followed by the moonlit scurry of hundreds of hatchlings into the ocean has become a popular tourism attraction, with ranger-guided turtle tours running seven nights a week during the season.
Dubbed one of Australia's greatest conservation and educational experiences, these tours attract as many as 30,000 tourists from around the world, signalling a global trend towards ecotourism and natural attractions.
