Argyle Experiences: Tusket Island Tours
We offer a scenic tour of the historic Tusket islands South of Yarmouth. We leave from the Wedgeport breakwater normally around 10:30am and give a historic detailed tour of the Tusket islands and how they have shaped our fisheries in SW Nova.
Halfway through we stop on big Tusket island at our private seaside shanty for fresh seafood chowder and a look at our wharf, bait shed and the rest of our fishing facilities. On the return trip you can enjoy live music until our arrival at the dock around 2:00pm.

Tusket Township Courthouse and Gaol, the oldest still existing in Canada
The village was originally settled by Acadians, then by Dutch United Empire Loyalists from New York and New Jersey in 1785, after the Great Expulsion. In the 19th century the village was very prosperous as a major ship building center. The Old Tusket Courthouse, built in 1805 and featuring a bell tower, is the oldest standing courthouse in Canada. #lynnhemeon

Fête du Canada - 2018 - Canada Day Wedgeport NS
Wedgeport Breakwater Wharf
Wedgeport was settled in 1767 by returning Acadians who had been deported from Nova Scotia to the Boston area. The village of Wedgeport was formally called Tusket Wedge, and was also at one time called the Chebec. In 1909 by an Act of Parliament, it was changed to Wedgeport.
On May 16, 1910, the community of Wedgeport was incorporated with Upper Wedgeport and Lower Wedgeport and became a town separate from the Municipality of Argyle. On December 22, 1948, the town of Wedgeport was disincorporated and rejoined the Municipality of Argyle because the town's tax base became too small to support its obligations.
In the 20th century, many famous Americans and Canadians traveled here due to large amounts of tuna in the area, including Babe Ruth, President Franklin Roosevelt, Kate Smith, Gene Tunney, Amelia Earhart, Ernest Hemingway, Jean Béliveau, Ethel du Pont, Thomas Gifford, Zane Grey and Tony Hulman. It is known as the Historic Sport Tuna Fishing Capital of the World.
