Venta Silurum
Founded by the Romans in AD 75 as Venta Silurum, this was a fortified market town for the defeated Silures tribe.
The walls are easily the most impressive town defence to survive from Roman Britain.
Here you can see short clips depicting:
The Court Yard House with its pillars that originally supported the floors and under floor heating.
The Basilica which would have been the main council chamber.
The Forum which would have hosted the market stalls
The Temple for worship
The long South city wall with City gate
Castle mound which supported originally a wooden construction and around 300AD was rebuilt in stone.
i climbed the mountain to show you ..WALES ( a drone a man a dog )
The Iron Age hill-fort of Twmbarlwm.
It was once a centre for the Silurian Celts
who fought a 25-year war with Rome.
The hill fort would have been well defended
with ramparts, warriors on horseback and speedy
chariots. From the top are stunning views,
over Newport Risca Cardiff Bay Barry to the south and towards
the Brecon Beacons to the north.
The climb video to follow as soon as i get my breath back..lolall i can say is....THANKS for your support over the years.
Mountain Walk Vlog
This is me and Simon climbing Twmbarlwm - a mountain in Wales, on which my house is situated.
Apologies for the shoddy camera-work (I found it easier to hold it vertical when it was on me) and also for the dominance.
I hope you enjoy this video; my favourite part is my camp running! :P
Please subscribe to my channel: doctorwho35, for more videos, and hopefully more vlogs!
BTW, I don't know how to make the video bigger and get rid of the black square - if anyone knows, please inbox me the answer; thanks!
Two Huge Mountainside Blazes In Welsh Valleys Were Started Deliberately - Fire Chiefs Confirm
Two Huge Mountainside Blazes In Welsh Valleys Were Started Deliberately - Fire Chiefs Confirm
Firefighters battled the blazes for more than three hours last night with residents in Tonypandy fearing their homes were at risk
Two huge mountainside blazes in the Welsh valleys last night were started deliberately, according to fire authorities .
In the first blaze, the inferno came dangerously close to houses in the Rhondda.
The blaze was lit on a mountainside in Tonypandy, with crews battling the fire for hours as they struggled against high winds.
Crews were called to the scene on the Penrhys mountain at 5.20pm where around 10 hectares, about the size of 10 rugby pitches, were well alight.
A South Wales Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said the fire was deliberate and police officers would be patrolling the area.
A message sent by crews at around 6.30pm said they were being hampered by high winds and the left flank of the fire was approaching houses.
The incident will now be passed to the fire crime department who will work with South Wales Police.
The stop message was sent by crews at 8.17pm, with the last crew leaving the scene at 8.46pm.
One passer-by claimed that the blaze towered over the nearby Asda store.
“It’s on Penrhys mountain, but you can see it from behind Asda,” the onlooker said.

“It’s across a large area, I saw a helicopter flying over and there are a couple of fire engines there.
“It stretches across the whole mountain.”
“I would say it is about twice the size of Asda, it’s massive. There is a lot of smoke and it seems to be spreading quite a lot with the wind,” the witness said.
“It’s very close to houses too. It’s blowing toward mine. I’m really worried.”
Four hose reel jets and beaters were used at the scene, which was attended by crews from Ferndale, Tonypandy and Pontypridd.
In the second blaze, flames cover covering the size of around 50 rugby pitches were also deliberatly lit, according to the fire service.
Fire crews were called to the well alight grass fire across 50 hectares in Tonypandy at 6.49pm last night.
Crews created a fire break to stop the spread of the fire, which was near the Tonypandy Community College.
The crews had to stop their efforts due to difficult terrain and conditions.

But a South Wales Fire and Rescue Service (SWFRS) spokeswoman said there was no danger to life or property, Wales Online reports.
The SWFRS spokeswoman added that the fire was deliberate.
A stop message for the incident was sent at 22.12pm.
Crews from Tredegar, Gilfach Goch and Aberdare attended the scene.
SWFRS said that the fire also reached Penygraig, and was dealt with as the same incident.
A specialist fire unit called Argocut was used at the scene, which is designed to deal with difficult terrain.
