Mangrove - Carriacou, Grenada

In Carriacou, Grenada, Tyrell Bay, there is a very nice mangrove. Officially, it is a protected area. However, the construction of a local marina is partially destroying this mangrove.

Sailing Grenada and the Grenadines - Sailing to Tyrell Bay on Carriacou

Sailing Grenada and the Grenadines day 2 of our charter. We sailed 28 miles from Grenada to Tyrell Bay on Carriacou. We motor sailed along the west coast of Grenada trying to get east as much as we could. Once we rounded the north shore we were met by strong 25 knot winds and 8-10 foot seas. The wind was more northeast which was not in a favorable direction for going to Carriacou. We motor sailed and tacked back and forth to keep the catamaran quartering the waves. We sailed past the Sister Islands and Ronde Island. Once we past Diamond Rock the wind and waves picked up again. It was a rough and wet ride.

We arrived in Tyrell Bay just after noon and were met by more rain for most of the afternoon. We had a great meal of crab cakes and asparagus on board that evening.

The next day the weather finally cleared as we sailed on to Union Island. At last, I can start working on my savage tan!

Is this heaven? Sandy island, Carriacou. Sand dollars, stingrays and squid. Sailing the Caribbean

Wow, Sandy island, what a paradise!

This must be one of the most beautiful beaches in the caribbean. I say one of cus i feel i say this about every new beach we arrive to. But this one, for sure!
Sandy island is next to Carriacou, and just a daysail from Grenada.

And this beach is pretty much the whole island.
It has one beachside, som meters with palmtrees in the middle, and old corals on the other side.

And the water is calm, no waves, and of course there's crystalclear water with turtles, rays and octopus in it.
This time snorkeling i saw a stingray with no tail! How strange, it looked almost naked without it..
And two squid that changed their color from brown to white/blank when they swam away! I even found alot of sand dollars here.

The Jeanneau yacht Kush did it again, she took us to paradise! and if it hadn't been for the other boats, this would be a nude beach, for sure :)

So, this is how a morning is spent when a girl gets the beach to her self while the sun is rising, and the boys is exploring the neighbor island.

Grenada - Diving Tyrell Bay with Aquanauts Grenada

The Tyrrel Bay was donated to the Government of Grenada by the US Government for use by the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF) Coast Guard and entered into service in 1984. Following its service, the boat became inoperable for several years, after which the Grenada Scuba Diving Association (GSDA) requested permission from the Government of Grenada and the US Government to decommission and sink the vessel as a sustainable reef and new dive site in the destination. This public/ private sector project began in 2016 and was completed in September 2018.

Staycation is a yearly promotion by the Grenada Tourism Authority that affords Grenadians, and foreigners residing in Grenada, the opportunity to escape and rejuvenate in the peaceful tranquility of Carriacou and Petite Martinique. The incentive based program rewards visitors, who spend two nights or more at any participating hotel, with discounted rates at hotels, restaurants, car rentals, dive shops and more. Moreover, it provides these visitors with a free return ticket to Grenada, courtesy the GTA.
