The Story of Tyrrell's Pokolbin Hills Vineyard
Bruce Tyrrell and Andrew Pengilly discuss the Pokolbin Hills vineyard and what characteristics this piece of land brings to the wine that is produced from it.
Pokolbin Hills was purchased by Reg Drayton in 1969 from the A.E. Phillips Glandore vineyard. Believing it to be one of the great Semillon vineyards of the area, Tyrrell’s has bought grapes from here since 1984 and now leases the vineyard from its current owners.
The fruit from this vineyard produces one of our Single Vineyard wines - the Pokolbin Hills Semillon.

Hunter Valley Semillon - Tyrrell's Wines
Chris Tyrrell discusses the Semillon from the Hunter Valley range at Tyrrell's Wines.
Our Hunter Valley range is quintessential Tyrrell’s and quintessential Hunter. It showcases the key varieties of the region - Chardonnay, Semillon and Shiraz. The wines all reflect the winemaking styles of our winemaker’s selection Vat 1, Vat 47 and Vat 9; in essence making our Hunter Valley range the “baby brothers” of these three iconic wines. This range is available exclusively through selected retailers and restaurants.

The Story of Tyrrell's Johnno's Vineyard
Bruce Tyrrell and Andrew Pengilly discuss the Johnno's Vineyard and what characteristics this piece of land brings to the wine that is produced from it.
Johnno’s was planted in 1908 on light, sandy soils at the edge of Mary Ann’s creek on the southern boundary of the original property. Originally known as the Long Flat, it changed in 2002 to be named after fifth generation family member John Tyrrell.
Tyrrell’s has seven blocks over 100 years old, still producing and growing on their own roots; our Sacred Sites. They represent some of the rarest vines in the world. Their origins lie in the “Busby Collection”, a selection of grapevine cuttings from Europe, brought to Australia by James Busby in 1832.
The fruit from this vineyard produces two of our Sacred Sites wines - the Johnno's Semillon and Johnno's Shiraz.

The Short Flat is the home of Vat 1 Semillon and Vat 47 Chardonnay and is the core of our super premium white production. The oldest vines were planted in 1923 and the youngest in 1990. The vineyard is arguably the best white vineyard in Australia, making white wines that have a real strength of fruit and the ability to live and develop in the bottle for many years.

Did you know that Semillon is the most highly awarded grape variety in Australia's Hunter Valley?
In this episode Suzette (an enthusiastic food and wine lover) joins Dan in an exploration of the lustrous world of Hunter Valley Semillon.
Semillon from this region of the world is unique due to its remarkable capacity to age, which allows the variety to develop more complex characteristics over time.
In this episode, Dan and Suzette compare two Semillon wines (one is aged and one is young) from the same producer:
Meerea Park Epoch Semillon 2005
Meerea Park Hell Hole Semillon 2009
