Jackie Chan in Conversation
20 years after he first appeared in front of cameras in Australia, martial arts superstar and acting legend Jackie Chan gave his first public talk at Sydney Opera House. Exploring his extraordinary life and career - from the '78 Hong Kong hit Drunken Master and Hollywood breakthrough Rumble in the Bronx to the upcoming Bleeding Steel (to be filmed in Sydney) - the Chinese superstar discussed his signature blend of comedy and kung-fu, his life-long commitment to philanthropy, and his relationship with Australia since first living here with his family.
At seven years of age, Jackie Chan was enrolled in the China Drama Academy to hone his skills in martial arts and Chinese Opera. As the Hong Kong film industry reached a new peak in popularity, he jumped into stunt-work, quickly gaining a reputation for his inventive and fearless style. When the local film industry suffered a decline, he relocated to Australia to join his family but returned to Hong Kong to achieve the break-through movie success that set him on the path to becoming the screen icon we know today.
A tireless cultural ambassador who has revolutionised the film industry, Jackie Chan delighted audiences as he discussed his celebrated life and career during an intimate and lively discussion on the Concert Hall stage.

Justice Crew - Secret Rehearsal - Chris Brown Tour 2011 - AIM
Here at the Australian Institute of Music (AIM) we were recently lucky enough to witness the Justice Crew rehearsing for there 2011 Australian tour with US singer Chris Brown.
Australia's dance troupe Justice Crew is proof that dreams can happen. From humble beginnings in Sydney's western suburbs, the nine-member outfit became one of 2010's hottest talking points when they won Australia's Got Talent. With the series win, they collected the $250,000 victor's prize cheque and a contract with Sony Music.
Winning the competition was like a dream come true explains Emmanuel EMan Rodriguez, the unofficial frontman of Justice Crew. It was like a book which starts from where we came from, how Justice came together, how we entered the competition, and then winning the series. It was unreal that we made it so far. It just shows that if you work really hard, you'll get there. Taking out the competition is by no means the end of this story. The dancers split their windfall and have invested for the future -- theirs and for other aspiring dancers.
The troupe tipped cash into a band fund and invested in Justice Academy Inc, a program which helps disadvantaged young Australians work on their confidence, self-expression and team-building skills by hosting free dance workshops and classes.
All nine-members are hands-on at the Justice Academy, which uses music and dance to empower future generations. Age is no barrier. In 2010, the Academy's 5- 9 year old graduates competed in the 2010 LA World Hip Hop competition under the name Little Justice.
Our goal is to get the Academy running so it's a full-time course where kids can actually get a certificate out of it and learn life skills says Rodriguez. We want to prove that dancing for Australians can be a career.
The nine hip hoppers come from diverse backgrounds, with dancing the coming thread. They met through dance circles in their late teens and in early 2009 became Justice Crew under the mentorship of New Zealand-born dance veteran Maurice June.
They're very talented. They're the best in the country at what they do both as individuals and as an example to others says June.
Initially, the supercrew was a larger team. Over time, the group whittled down to the current nine, a squad of individuals who connect on many levels. In 2009, the team entered into the World Hip Hop Dance Championships in Las Vegas, finishing a credible 14th. A bigger finish would come when on June 15, 2010, the crew made it all the way in Australia's Got Talent.
Sony Music released Justice Crew's debut single And Then We Dance on August 27, and will issue a full-length DVD in late September. Plans are to tour the act nationally, and in time internationally. When you look at the journey, from where they've come to where they are now notes June, they're not scared of anything.

Melbourne Travel Guide during your time in Melbourne and how to enjoy magnificent Melbourne weather
Melbourne, at the head of Port Phillip Bay, is Australia's second largest city and the capital of the south-eastern state of Victoria.
Serving as Australia’s undisputed cultural capital, Melbourne is bursting with Victorian-era architecture, famed cafés, great bars and restaurants, extensive shopping, museums, galleries, theatres, and large parks and gardens. Its nearly 5-million residents are both multicultural and sports-mad, and the city has year-round festivals, sporting events and the best of Australian culture on display.
Melbourne is famous as the host city for a range of major international sporting events such as the Australian Open, Melbourne Cup Carnival and Formula 1 Grand Prix. It also features some of the world's most popular art galleries and museums (National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne Museum) and internationally acclaimed festivals (Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Melbourne International Film Festival, Melbourne Fringe Festival). The city is also represented by its world-famous street art, coffee culture, pubs and live music... most of which can be found tucked away in a large number of iconic laneways. Frequently named as the World's Most Liveable City, Melbourne is close to and features many gardens, national parks and areas that are home to some of Australia's iconic wildlife (The Great Ocean Road, Grampians National Park, Phillip Island, Royal Botanic Gardens). Melbourne is the third-driest capital city in Australia with half of Sydney's rainfall (at 600mm) and is good to visit year-round. Days in Summer have an average high of 26°C, though days above 35°C occur sporadically as it is the warmest season with the lowest rainfall (and fewest rainy days). Autumn and Spring are similar temperatures, hovering around 21°C averages, however there are an average of 11 days with rainfall for each of the Autumn months (March-May), compared to 14 days for each Spring month (Sep-Nov).

Music Industry and Performing Arts Programs
Beginning as the Sydney Guitar School in 1968 founded by Dr Peter Calvo, the Australian Institute of Music (AIM) is now a major player in education & training for the Australian music industry, performing arts & entertainment management fields. Being an independent institute, AIM is not a music university, however AIM Music Courses deliver accredited music tuition & unique industry relevant programs designed to equip students for successful lifelong creative careers, across music diplomas, music degrees and graduate music studies.
Diverse Music Course Choices
You simply won't find a more diverse combination of professional courses, campus facilities, student body, opportunities & music teachers at the top of their game, & all under one roof, than you will at AIM - with a wide range of undergraduate & graduate music courses, each with its own Head of Department & professional teaching staff. Customised Music & Entertainment Education
AIM students can individually tailor their studies to integrate performance skills, business management, marketing, individual instrument or voice lessons, audio & sound engineering, music production and other specialised units. Students also undertake industry placements as part of their course.
Great Educational & Performance Facilities
With select facilities, performance spaces, industry standard Q Studios - and with industry staff on hand, students can develop the confidence and skills needed to pursue a successful career in the music industry, performing arts & wider entertainment fields.
In June 2010 Kimbra's first single on Forum 5, Settle Down, was released. She had started writing the track four years earlier -- it was finished with François Tétaz. The music video was directed by Guy Franklin. Perez Hilton featured the track on his website citing if you like Nina Simone, Florence & The Machine and/or Bjork, then we think you will enjoy Kimbra -- her music reminds us of all those fierce ladies! On 10 December, the Australian 'indietronica' group Miami Horror released their single, I Look to You featuring Kimbra's vocals. Kimbra also stars in its music video, which features wide-angle and kaleidoscope shots of her in face paint and dresses walking through golden fields.
Early in 2011, Kimbra's song Cameo Lover was a finalist for the 2011 Vanda & Young Songwriting Competition and eventually won the competition. In March she issued Cameo Lover as her next single, its music video was released in April and was directed by Franklin. On 15 July 2011, Cameo Lover won the songwriting competition, ahead of third placed song, Somebody That I Used to Know, written by Belgian-Australian musician, Gotye.

I think a seasoned performer is someone who has a lot of experience in the music industry.
One of the most important things that we talk about is learning the ability to listen to the other people you're playing with, listening to the song as a whole instead of your own little part, working as part of a team for the greater good. That's what I think is really important. That will also give you longevity in the industry. If you are aware of the people around you and you can appreciate and give them space. It really goes a long way.
Career killers - arrogance! It's a big career killer. People don't like to playing with arrogant people. Even people I know who are the main act like Jimmy Barnes, James Reyne, people who write their songs are the featured solo act. They got there because they're not arrogant. On stage, never let an audience know you're suffering, in any way. Being condescending to an audience can be really awful, kind of making out you've got an in joke that their not into. Audiences don't like that.
To keep a great working relationship with band members, you've got to have respect. With the Hoodoo Guru's, we've always taken the music really seriously and the rest we take with a big grain of salt. When we record and write songs, we take that seriously and also we know each other so well now that we kind of second guess each other and we know what upsets one another. I can ring up a singer and get him really upset in seconds if I want as he can with me. I know what pushes his buttons. It's a great thing to be able to play with musicians that you've played with for a long time. It's an almost telepathic thing on stage. It's beautiful. you actually know what the persons going to do.
As far as rehearsal and preparation, we've actually paid our dues in the Hoodoo Gurus. We'll rehearse if we haven't played for a little while but we've got to a point where we have a really good bottom line. We'll go and rehearse if we want to play new songs or old songs that we haven't played for 20 years. We've done the hard yards with that stuff. We would go in for two or three weeks to rehearse before a tour. If we haven't played for a month or a couple then we'll go into the studio and set up the gear and just blast through old songs we haven't played and it's like getting yourself fit.
Our band is very physical and you know an hour and a half of it is so full on so we try and do that. We've been very lucky, we've had the same manager forever and he's very knowledgable as far as copyright and contracts.
As far as record labels go, it's a funny thing because we're signed to Sony Music Australia and the second in charge (2IC) of Sony is a huge Hoodoo Guru's fan. That makes a huge difference knowing that somebody at the record company actually likes you.
As far as resolving conflict in the band, we have band meetings and know each other so well now that usually someone will say What's your problem? or What's going on? and it gets aired. I've been in all sorts of situations with bands, open sort of animosity, violence.
If you don't know your stuff, you don't have a good time. If I want to go and play in a band you know it's different here, at performance nights we have, I can't relax. If I have to get up and play with one of band, I just worry about whether the guitar player is coming in here or the drummer is going to do this so I find that quite difficult. If I go and play with the Guru's, I prepare in a certain way so Ican get up on stage and not even think about it. Little things like being late, that's the number 1 crime! You know being late for rehearsal, if you're working with other people, you're letting down all of them. You have to be careful not to be sucked into the image of the whole thing. It's the love of music that will get you through

Lyrics:
Ridin' down the highway
Goin' to a show
Stop in all the by-ways
Playin' rock 'n' roll
Gettin' robbed
Gettin' stoned
Gettin' beat up
Broken boned
Gettin' had
Gettin' took
I tell you folks
It's harder than it looks
It's a long way to the top
If you wanna rock 'n' roll
It's a long way to the top
If you wanna rock 'n' roll
If you think it's easy doin' one night stands
Try playin' in a rock roll band
It's a long way to the top
If you wanna rock 'n' roll
Hotel, motel
Make you wanna cry
Lady do the hard sell
Know the reason why
Gettin' old
Gettin' grey
Gettin' ripped off
Under-paid
Gettin' sold
Second hand
That's how it goes
Playin' in a band
It's a long way to the top
If you wanna rock 'n' roll
It's a long way to the top
If you wanna rock 'n' roll
If you wanna be a star of stage and screen
Look out it's rough and mean
It's a long way to the top
If you wanna rock 'n' roll
