Udgir Fort - Latur...MAHARASTRA (Pt.-1)

Udgir city is known for a well built fort of pre-Bahamani age, dating from the twelfth century CE. It is also famous for the historic battle in which Marathas, led by Sadashivrao Bhau, defeated Nizam, and after which the treaty of Udgir was signed.
There are many old military observation points, and rest houses scattered over the surrounding hills, all built from an unusual white clay. However, all have long since fallen into ruin. Udgir Fort may also have a deep underground tunnel connecting it with Bhalki and Bidar forts.
The fort is bounded by a 40 feet deep trench, and contains several palaces, as well as the Samadhi of Udaygir Maharaj, which is 60 feet under the normal ground level. It was named after the Hindu Saint Udaygiri Rishi. It has some rare inscriptions written in Arabic and Persian which testify to the promotion of knowledge and culture by the local Muslim rulers over the centuries.

महाराष्ट्रातील भुईकोटांच्या मालिकेतील एक महत्वाचा भुईकोट म्हणजे उदगिरचा किल्ला आहे. प्राचीन चालुक्यराजवटीच्या खुणा अंगावर बाळगून नंतर आलेल्या बहमनी, बरीदशाही व आदिलशाहीच्या कहाण्या अंतरी लपवून मुघल आणि निजामशाही सत्तांची राजचिन्हे मिरवणारा हा बलदंड भुईकोट मराठ्यांच्या सदाशिव भाऊ च्या पराक्रमाची गाथा सुद्धा तेवढ्याच अभिमानाने सांगत सर्वच इतिहासप्रेमींच्या स्वागताला उदगीर गावातच गेली अनेक शतके उभा आहे.
मुंबई ,ठाणे ,पुणेकर व इतर इतिहासप्रेमी उदगीर एक्सप्रेसने रात्री निघून मुंबई - ठाणे - पुणे - कुर्डुवाडी - बार्शी- लातूर मार्गे सकाळी उदगीरला पोहचू शकता (रेल्वे सकाळी साडेसातला उदगीर स्थानकात येते) सकाळी नऊ ते बारा किल्ला पाहून उदगीर वरून दोन- तीन पर्याय उपलब्ध आहेत

3) बिदर एक्सप्रेसने सर्वप्रथम बिदर ला पोहचल्यावर( रेल्वे 9.15 सकाळी पोहोचते) बिदर किल्ला पाहून उदगीर गाठायचे (अंदाजे तीन तास प्रवास) बिदर उदगीर मार्गावर कर्नाटक व महाराष्ट्र एसटी बस ची frequency फारच छान आहे. सायंकाळी 6 पर्यंत दोन्ही किल्ले पाहून रात्री 9 पर्यंत लातूर ला पोहचून मुक्काम करायचा व दुसऱ्या दिवशी लातूरहुन 20किमी वरीलऔसा किल्ला पाहून परत लातूरला येऊन रात्रीची रेल्वे पकडून परतीचा प्रवास करता येईल.

लातूर जिल्ह्यातील उदगीर शहराला प्राचीन इतिहास आहे. बालघाटाच्या डोंगर रांगेत वसलेल्या उदगीरचे प्राचीन नाव उदयगिरी होते. काही ठिकाणी याचा उल्लेख उदकगिरी या नावानेही येतो. या डोंगररांगेत लेंडी नदीचा उगम होत असल्यामुळे या परीसराला हे नाव मिळाले असावे. अगदी पुराण काळापासून या नगरीचे उल्लेख सापडतात त्यामुळे या शहराला ऎतिहासिक व आध्यात्मिक मह्त्व आहे. सदाशिवराव (भाऊ) पेशव्यांनी निजामा विरुध्दची लढाई उदगीर जवळ झालेली लढाई जिंकल्यामूळे हा किल्ला सर्वांना परीचित आहे.
उदगीर हा भूईकोट किल्ला आहे. स्वातंत्र्य प्राप्ती नंतर हैद्राबाद संस्थान भारतात विलिन होईपर्यंत हा किल्ला निजामाच्या ताब्यात होता. त्यामूळे त्यातील अवशेष आजही अस्तित्वात आहेत.
उदगीर गावातून गाडीने आपण थेट किल्ल्यापर्यंत जाऊ शकतो. उदगीर गाव व किल्ला एकाच पातळीवर असल्यामूळे आपण त्याला भूईकोट म्हणत असलो तरी, किल्ल्याच्या इतर तीन बाजूंनी खोल दरी आहे. त्यामूळे या तीन बाजूंनी किल्ल्याला नैसर्गिक संरक्षण आहे. तर उरलेल्या चौथ्या बाजूने म्हणजेच, गावाच्या बाजूने किल्ल्याला संरक्षण देण्यासाठी ४० फूट खोल व २० फूट रूंद खंदक खोदलेला आहे. हा खंदक दोनही बाजूनी बांधून काढलेला आहे. पूर्वीच्या काळी खंदकात पाणी सोडलेले असे व प्रवेशव्दारासमोर खंदकावर उचलता येणारा पूल ठेवलेला असे. हा पूल सूर्यास्तानंतर व युध्द प्रसंगी उचलून (काढून) घेतला जात असे. आज गावाच्या बाजूला असलेला खंदक बुजलेला असल्यामुळे थेट किल्ल्यात प्रवेश करता येतो.

Udgir was named after the famous Hindu Saint Udaygiri Baba.Udgir is located in the Balaghat hill. In the Udgir fort are several palaces Durbar halls. And the main thing is to see there is the Samadhi of Udaygir Maharaj which is 60 feet under the normal ground level. This is a place of great reverence to the people of the region.

UDGIR FORT

Udgir is famous for the historic war between the Marathas and the Nizam, led by Sadashivrao Bhau who defeated Nizam in 1759 when the treaty of Udgir was signed. Marathas won a convincing victory in the Battle of Udgir under the able leadership of brave warrior Sadashivrao Bhau. Later it prompted Peshwe (Peshwas) of Pune to promote/elevate and designate him as Chief Commander of the Maratha Army for the Third Battle of Panipat fought in 1761. Nevertheless, it was part of Nizam until 1948 and State of Hyderabad between 1948 and 1956 before annexing to Bombay State with entire Marathwada.

The fort of Udgir still stands in all its glory, speaking volumes about the Indian history and Indian culture. The fort is bounded by a 40-foot-deep trench, as the fort is built at the ground level. In the fort are several palaces, Durbar halls and the grave of Udaygiri Maharaj which is 60 feet below ground level. It is believed that the Udgir fort has a direct deep underground subway connecting with Bhalki and the Bidar forts.

Ausa is a town with a municipal council and taluka in Latur District in the state of Maharashtra, India. It is also the headquarters for Ausa Taluka.

After visiting the Dharashiv Caves we traveled per directions provided by Google maps to reach Ausa Fort. We traveled for around 70 KM to reach Ausa Fort base. We parked the car near the main road and from there walked to the fort premises.
There is no entry fee to see the fort, but the fort timings are from 9 AM to 5PM.

Udgir fort in the udgir city in latur district, maharashtra of India is a fort built in pre-bahamani age, dating from the twelfth century CE. It is also famous for the historic battle in which Marathas led by Sadashivrao Bhau, defeated Nizam, and after which the treaty of Udgir was signed.

There are many old military observation points, and rest houses scattered over the surrounding hills, all built from an unusual white clay. However, all have long since fallen into ruin. Udgir Fort may also have a deep underground tunnel connecting it with Bhalki and Bider forts.

The fort is bounded by a 40 feet deep trench, and contains several palaces, as well as the Samadhi of Udaygir Maharaj, which is 60 feet under the normal ground level. It was named after the Hindu Saint Udaygiri Rishi. It has some rare inscriptions written in Arabic and Persian which testify to the promotion of knowledge and culture by the local Muslim rulers over the centuries
