Tea Ceremony for untitled 2018 (the infinite dimensions of smallness) by Mai Ueda
National Gallery Singapore collaborates with internationally renowned artist Rirkrit Tiravanija to present his largest bamboo maze installation at its Ng Teng Fong Roof Garden from 24 January 2018 to 28 October 2018.
Named untitled 2018 (the infinite dimensions of smallness), the immersive installation which stands at a towering four metres high, draws its inspiration from materials, craftwork and architecture from Asia. The maze references traditional hand-built bamboo scaffolding found across Asia, while the Japanese tea house evokes the rich culture of tea with its centuries-old ceremonies. Visitors are invited to navigate through the bamboo maze as they go in search of finding something special such as the wooden teahouse located at its centre, and along the way, encounter and interact with each other.
Complementing the installation is a diverse range of interdisciplinary public programmes including tea ceremonies by Japanese performance artist Mai Ueda, monthly tea ceremonies, Rirkrit Day with a colloquium, screening of the documentary on the making of the installation, and various performances.

Japan Trip: Cultural Treasures at the Temples in Bessho Onsen Town, Nagano 60
Bessho Onsen (別所温泉), located just outside of central Ueda City in Nagano Prefecture, is more than just a small hot spring resort town. Though the town’s sulfurous healing waters are well-known as being the oldest onsen (hot spring) in the region, this town has a rich cultural history as well. During the Kamakura Period (1192-1333), Bessho Onsen served as the headquarters of the governor of the Shinshu Region (today's Nagano Prefecture). The governor built temples and brought Kamakura culture to the mountain town. Thus, Bessho Onsen became the prosperous center of education and religion, and earned the nickname Kamakura of Shinshu.
Anrakuji, the oldest standing Zen Temple in this region, was the center of learning and culture. This temple houses a three-storied wooden octagonal pagoda, the last pagoda of this style in Japan. Built in the Chinese Sung architectural style, the pagoda is three storied, but with the eaves known as mokoshi on the first floor, the pagoda gives the appearance of being four storied. It has been designated as a National Treasure.

Liyang Museum by CROX
Liyang Museum is still under construction, with the concept of ancient songs, it shows the beauty of oriental melody, and finally completes a very progressive natural building. In order to let people cross the park, the building is divided into two bodies.
The lower body and the city park form the shape of mountain which becomes the functional part of museum. The upper body and the sky echo each other and fused into cloud-like shape for urban planning. Museum's functions combine PAST, PRESENT and FUTURE into one spirit of space.
Two architectural bodies create a freespace for citizens and constitute additional space for the city. People can feel the sunshine, air and plants. This space provides opportunity to let architecture communicate with the earth. Liyang Museum constitutes the yearnings to city life and the concept of avant-grade nature. Source by CROX.
