DYA717 Aug 29, 2017 Ueda
Breakfast at the Tokyu REI Hotel – Japanese breakfast buffet. I went BURA-BURA on the backside of the train station. Walked past a shopping mall, Arts & Cultural Center, the Chikumagawa or Chikuma River. Back to the hotel area, I went to the tourist info center and asked the young lady if the Chikumagawa I saw was the river in the Chikumagawa song by Itsuki Hiroshi. She wasn’t familiar with the song I think as she wasn’t so sure. But, she said there is only one Chikumagawa that she knows so Itsuki Hiroshi’s song, which made the number #1 in Japan was probably before this young lady was born! LOL! Kekekeke Then I went across the train tracks to the front of the station and went BURA-BURA. I went to the Ueda Castle Ruins park. The castle was built by the Sanada clan who was featured in the 2016 NHK Taiga TV drama, “Sanada Maru”. I then headed back to the train station. I saw a sign that said Ueda Dentetsu. It takes folks across the Chikumagawa to Bessho Onsen. 30-minute ride with various stops along the way. A round trip ticket cost 1180-yen and an all day ticket cost 1180-yen. I bought the all-day ticket but only went round trip. Saw some temples/shrines at Bessho Onsen and then caught the train back to the city. Stopped for “DIN-CH”, my dinner-lunch at a ramen shop. First part of this video features Itsuki Hiroshi singing one of his great hits “Chikumagawa”. Then the theme music from the NHK Sanada Maru TV program.

Iwaki Tourism Promotion Video - Hot spring
【How to enjoy the town of hot spring recommended by local students…】
Iwaki Yumoto Hot Spring has been loved as one of the three ancient springs along with Dogo Hot Spring and Arima Hot Spring for over 1300 years. Iwaki Yumoto has also an amusement facility called Spa Resort Hawaiians, where Japan’s first Hula Girls began their performance. The place is famous as a Hawaii of Tohoku area.
This Promotion Video (PV) is produced by New Generation Assistant (NGA) student members of Iwaki Meisei University. This PV tries to introduce this tourist site, Iwaki Yumoto town to you with a more relaxed and local viewpoint. We will focus on various spots around JR Yumoto Station.
【The back ground of this Iwaki Tourist PV production】
Iwaki Meisei University received an offer to make this PV from the Hotel Business Liaison Council & Iwaki Chamber of Commerce Industry. Then, the volunteer group members of NGA launched a project team named IMU Iwaki Activation Team to make PVs about Iwaki city. With a supervising editor, Mr. Hidemi Takahagi, a professional of video production from ifeels Inc, it took five months to complete this project. Totally, five PVs with five respective themes, “Night Views,” “Mountains,” “Sea”, “Hot Spring” and “Gourmet” were made.

Japan Castle of Japan Ueda Castle Nagano 2010
Ueda Castle (上田城 Ueda-jō?) was the original home of the Sanada clan, built by Sanada Masayuki.
It was this castle that the Sanada defended twice from the Tokugawa, first in 1583 and again in 1600, putting up a very impressive defense both of those times.
When Sanada Masayuki refused to hand over the Numata Castle to Tokugawa Ieyasu, it led to The Battle at Kami River. During the battle, Ieyasu charged into the Ueda Castle with a very large army. But Masayuki was ready, having an ambush party ready to attack. This effectively threw the Tokugawa army into great confusion, causing them great losses in numbers.
Masayuki and his son Sanada Yukimura both faced off against the Tokugawa once again at the Battle of Sekigahara. The Sanada announced their surrender, but this surrender was all part of Masayuki's plan. He wanted to make them think he was truly surrendering, but instead Masayuki was really in preparation for the defense of the Ueda Castle.
When Tokugawa Hidetada was alerted of the Sanada clan's plot, Hidetada began to mobilize his troops. But Masayuki was already prepared for an attack, so he had another ambush party ready, but this time he sent them into the enemy's main camp. In the end the battle had devastating effects. Hidetada failed to seize the Ueda Castle, and he was also kept from joining the field at Sekigahara.

The Blue Impulse Celebrates the Reopening of Himeji Castle by Ueda Hirotsugu
Japan Air Self-Defense Force Acrobatic Team - The Blue Impulse - Celebrates the Grand Reopening of Himeji Castle
Photos by Ueda Hirotsugu
The castle recently underwent extensive renovation works over several years and was fully re-opened to the public in March 2015.
Himeji Castle (姫路城, Himejijō) is widely considered Japan's most spectacular castle. Unlike many other Japanese castles, Himeji Castle was never destroyed in wars, earthquakes or fires and survives in its original form. It is both a national treasure and a world heritage site.
Roof tiles were replaced and the outer walls were repainted to restore the castle’s elegant appearance. With its white plastered earthen walls and six-story donjon, or central tower, the castle dates from 1609 and is a national treasure. It is also known as Shirasagi-jo (Egret Castle).
The renovations, which began in October 2009, were the first since 1964.
The Himeji city office expects 1.8 million people to visit the castle in fiscal 2015, which begins 1 April.
