Iga Ueno Castle
Iga Ueno castle(伊賀上野城), one of the 100 best castles of Japan, situated on the site of the former Heirakuji temple is a fine example of Japanese realising the tourist potential of the romantic image of Japan's semi-fictitious superman warrior - the ninja
The original castle was built in 1585 by Tsutsui Sadatsugu, four years after Oda Nobunaga had destroyed Iga and pacified the troublesome Samurai of Iga and practically put an end to their mercenary skills. In 1608, on the grounds of bad management, the Tokugawa government confiscated the territory of Iga and posted Todo Takatora (1556-1630) in the castle. Tokugawa Ieyasu, showing respect and appreciation for his connection to Iga and it's spies, instructed Takatora to enlarge the castle and it was planned to be one of the three finest castles in Japan. Extensive work was carried out on the moats and walls. The walls of the main keep are 30 metres high being the tallest of any castle in Japan. The castle tenshu (keep) was to be five-stories with an unhindered view in all directions, but during it's construction a severe storm knocked it down and it wasn't rebuilt.
The current tenshu is a modern reproduction on a grand scale, it is by far the best and most accurate reproduction castle in all of Japan. Constructed entirely from wood and plaster using the exact same methods as castles of the Sengoku period, it stands atop one of the most impressive walls in Japan, commanding a spectacular view over the Iga region.
Inside the castle are a great many historical artefacts including armour, swords, spears, everyday items and equipment from the Sengoku period through to the Meiji period most of which was formerly property of or related to the Iga Samurai.

Japanese rural city is facing a severe ninja shortage - TomoNews
IGA, JAPAN — Iga is trying to develop ninja tourism, but faces a shortage of performers.
While Japan faces a major demographic crisis, it is also facing a lesser-known type of crisis triggered by the first one. Japan is going through a severe ninja crisis.
The rural city of Iga, two hours away from Osaka, claims to be the birthplace of ninja culture. Like most middle size Japanese cities, Iga is suffering from depopulation. A constant flow of young people leaving for greater opportunities in bigger cities such as Tokyo or Osaka.
According to NPR's Planet money podcast, the city is trying to take advantage of the recent surge in tourism that the whole country has been experiencing lately. There is a ninja museum, as well as a yearly ninja festival that brings about 30,000 tourists. But to make this ninja tourism scheme work, the city needs to attract a labor force.
Specialized ninja performers have to go through intense training, and with an unemployment rate of just 2.5%, it is almost impossible to find candidates. Even though the payroll is really competitive, with modern ninjas earning up to $85.000 a year.

Here the hosts tried some challenges and experienced themselves the training that a ninja undergoes before becoming one. On their way to the ninja village, they rode a train and had a brief stopover to try a local delicacy, taiyaki, and while doing so, also dropped by the viewing deck with a picture-perfect spot for the UNESCO Heritage site, Mt. Teaching In Japan: Countryside Schools Vs City
A subscriber asked, what are some of the differences between countryside schools and city schools? Got me to thinking there are actually a lot of different factors in Japan. Yes, you have the usual influences you might see anywhere in the world but of course the Japanese put their own spin on it.

Japan Fight Highlights
In 2018 JAI Students Jackson and Jesse won their way to represent Australia at the All Japan Karate Championships held in October 2018.
It would be the first time the boys would compete in Karate Internationally. Both would have tough first round fights fighting local fighters. Despite the close losses, both boys would learn a lot from the trip. Each would win The Fighting Spirit Award - only 5 awarded.
Well done boys.

Famous Cherry Blossom in Japan

pdwc in japan | 2017
So in February I had the chance to go to Japan. The purpose of this trip was to attend the Parliamentary Debate World Conference and Competition in Saitama, but by the end of the week, it ended up being much more than that. The competition was between the countries Japan, Israel, The USA, France, Hungary, Vietnam, New Zealand, Australia, Nigeria and the UK, forming 17 teams and was hosted by Debate Mate. During the course of the 4 days of debating, all teams developed a friendship. There was a mixed debate created at the beginning of the week that was formed from members of different countries, which really helped us to integrate and learn about each other’s cultures and backgrounds; something Mrs Nakadai aimed for when she established this competition. After the debates we took a trip to Honshu to visit Mount Fuji, which was definitely a once in a lifetime opportunity! We then visited Niigata and spent the day skiing which was amazing! The views was so beautiful and I managed to find a new sport that I love which was an added bonus. Our last stop on the trip was Tokyo. To be able to visit Tokyo was an experience I will never forget. It was so interesting to being in a city that had so much to offer, be it historical monuments, quirky shops or amazing fashion. Overall, the trip was an eye-opener. Although we did well in the debates and came second, that didn’t matter in the grand scheme of things. All of us became so close and it showed that barriers such as distance, don’t matter. Being in a room with people from all around the world showed me that anyone can come together, regardless of race, gender, class, age… anything. These social factors do not matter. What does matter is the importance of friendship and the importance of sharing ideas and expanding knowledge beyond our own prejudices.
