In this episode we explore the Ugab riverbed in and around White Lady Lodge. The Brandberg (Burnt Mointain) is spectacular and revelers pass us on their way to have a barbecue further up the riverbed.

Middle of Somewhere Namibia | Khorixas to Kamajab
Remember when I said driving the coastline of Namibia really puts into perspective just how desolate this country is? Well, let's just say that driving the inland area also puts it into perspective. You drive down these dirt roads and pass a small village every once in a while. Here is where you find small boys riding in donkey carts along the road between places. It is a whole different world from the coastline and the desert. Namibia really is the land of contrasts!
This video shows the drive from Khorixas to Kamanjab, a route you can take from leaving coastal Namibia and heading inland to Etosha National Park.

Road to Ugab Basecamp from Twyfelfontein
We travelled from Twyfelfontein to Save the Rhino Trust's campsite in the Ugab River, following the route around Doros Crater and through Desolation Valley. Most of it is easy going, but for the last 7 or 8 km the road turns rocky with some steep descents.

Namibia 2016: The Twyfelfontein Petroglyphs
One of the unique sights in Damaraland arthe petroglyphs of Twyfelfontein. A 35 min drive from the Doro Nawas Lodge through spectacular desert landscapes brought us to a place which is World renown for being the finest rock petroglyphs in Africa. Scattered among the shattered red boulders and rocks on the side of a steep hill are over 2000 rock engravings and paintings dating back 6000 years. Painted by shamen, who in a trance, would transcend into the animals they hunted, painting/carving them in a surrealistic manner. As such, they ‘became’ the animals. The climb to see these things was clearly not for the faint-hearted nor for those whose health or eye sight is not the best. Thus, it was by default that the old mountain goat (yours truly 69 years old) was to accompany Will (our 28 year old guide) up the crumbling and difficult pathways and steps to reach the best of the rock art. I have to say it was a stunning experience…. I was chuffed that I not only kept up with the youngster but at times was ahead of him – even when he got us lost on a rock face! In the evening light the petroglyphs were picked out in soft reds and oranges. All alone up there, you could almost feel a shaman’s whisper on the soft evening breeze…..
Just a lovely way to spend a winter’s afternoon in Damaraland.

Flight to Serra Cafema Camp
The mountain peak and desert are just stunning to see from the air! The sand gets pinker and more prevalent as we move north. Flying along the coast was just beautiful. I think this is the largest beach I've ever seen. We follow the Kunene River to get to camp.
