Ujigami Shrine (宇治上神社）, Uji City, Kyoto Prefecture
Ujigami Shrine (宇治上神社) is located in the backwoods of the Uji City and is designated as a guardian Shrine of the Byodoin Temple. Like the Byodoin temple this shrine is designated as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site.
Ujigami Shrine is a very popular Shrine with the local residents of the Uji city. It is not as extravagant as other temples or shrines you see in Japan. Nonetheless this shrine's Haiden and Honden (front worship hall and the main worship hall) are both designated as cultural treasures as they have a unique design and architecture covering the styles from Heian and Kamakura periods.
This Shrine too is mentioned in various locations in the Uji Chapters of the Tale of Genji Novel.
Ujigami Shrine, Along the Rekishi Kaido in Uji City, Kyoto!
Situated in Uji City, Kyoto, the Ujigami shrine is dedicated to Emperor Oujin and Emperor Nintoku. The shrine's Honden (main hall) is Japan's oldest architecture of late Heian period that exists today. It is listed as World Heritage as one of the Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto. Although its origin is unknown, according to a dendrochronology research, the shrine's construction was dated at somewhere around 1060. The nearby Byodo-in temple, also registered as World Heritage, was built in 1052 and the two buildings are presumed to have been built together.
Later in the Muromachi period, seven natural springs in the Uji area, known as Uji Shichi Meisui, were designated as water source to be used in tea ceremonies. One of the seven springs, Kirihara mizu, flows from the Ujigami Shrine. The other six springs have all dried up over the years, and today, Kirihara mizu is the last spring left today where good Uji water is discharged.

Ujigami Shrine (Ujigami Jinja) is believed to be the oldest extant shrine in Japan. Although there is no official record of when it was first constructed, experts calculate that Ujigami Shrine was well constructed by 1060. It was affiliated with Byodoin Temple as its guardian shrine.
There stands a Uji Shrine a hundred meters south of Ujigami Shrine, both of which are built in the nagare-zukuri style. The two shrines used to be one until they were separated during the Meiji Period (1868-1912). Ujigami Shrine and Uji Shrine used to be called the upper shrine and the lower shrine, respectively.

Ujigami Shrine (宇治上神社 Ujigami-jinja) is a Shinto shrine in the city of Uji in Kyoto Prefecture, Japan. The shrine was built as a guardian shrine for the nearby Byōdō-in, and is adjacent to the Uji Shrine. In 1994, it was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as one of the Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto. The honden and haiden have been designated by the Agency for Cultural Affairs as National Treasures in the category shrines.
This Shrine is dedicated to the Emperor Ōjin and his sons, the imperial princes Uji no Wakiiratsuko and Emperor Nintoku. Uji no Wakiiratsuko committed suicide to solve a dispute over the imperial succession, and the shrine was built in his honor.

This one is for shrine fans and bunny lovers. The place is called Ujigami Jinja (Jjinja means shrine), and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. It's located in Uji, Kyoto. What's shown from 2:09 is the oldest Shinto shrine architecture. There is a famous temple nearby called Byodo-in, which is another UNESCO World Heritage site.

► Byodoin is a buddhist temple in Uji, Kyoto Prefecture, founded in 1052 by the Fujiwara clan. The main building (the phoenix hall) with the golden phoenix on the roof was completed in 1053, and the two wings followed in 1054.
Byodoin is also popular nicknamed The 10 yen coin Temple, as its pictured on the backside of - you guessed it - Japanese 10￥coins.
As it was the case with the Golden Pavilion I showed you recently, Byodoin is also located in a picturesque setting, by a large pond, with the mountains as a backdrop - Kyoto at its best.
Don't miss this place if going to Kyoto, even it's not so easy getting there, as many other famous Kyoto sights it's 100% worth it.

Mimurotoji Temple （三室戸寺）, Uji City, Kyoto Prefecture
Mimurotoji Temple （三室戸寺） is located in Uji City of the Kyoto prefecture. It is about twenty minute walk from the Keihan Railway Uji Station.
Mimurotoji Temple is the 10th temple in the Saikoku 33 Kannon Pilgrimage circuit. This temple was built in the 8th century AD. In this temple's main santuary there are a gilt-bronze statue of the Thousand-Armed Kannon, a statue of Sakyamuni Buddha and a statue of Bishmonten god.
Mimurotoji Temple is one of the temples that is mentioned in the Uji Chapters of the famous Tale of Genji novel. One of the tragic characters of the Uji Chapters called Ukifune, has a monument dedicated to her in the temple precincts.
