Anglophile Zen: Ullswater Cruise from Pooley Bridge to Glenridding - 46 Minutes
While on a trip to the Lake District, I had the chance to take a steamer cruise on Ullswater. The scenery was the most beautiful I had ever seen in England. Simply incredible. I set up my trusty GoPro to record the whole journey from Pooley Bridge to Glenridding. If you're in the Lake District, I highly recommend doing this. It takes just an hour (one way) and you get to see so much incredible scenery but also Britain basking in the glow of a beautiful summer.

Lake District is a mountains and lakes region in North West England
Glenridding, Cumbria, UK - 6th September, 2012
Glenridding is a village located at the southern end of Ullswater, in the English Lake District. The village is popular with mountain walkers who can scale England's third highest mountain, Helvellyn, and many other challenging peaks from here. The village has ample accommodation including two Youth Hostels and good camping sites. There is also a tourist information centre, Ullswater Information Centre. Glenridding is in the civil parish of Patterdale.
This video features views in and around Glenridding including the Ullswater Steamer 'Lady Wakefield' on Lake Ullswater, the hills and mountains around Glenridding, the stream which runs through Glenridding into Lake Ullswater, the traditional stone architecture of Glenridding buildings, hotels, a golf course, and an attention-seeking tractor driver who kept getting in front of where I was filming, boats and a wind-blown lake surface.

The village is popular with mountain walkers who can scale England's third highest mountain, Helvellyn, and many other challenging peaks from here. There is also a tourist information centre, Ullswater Information Centre.
Glenridding is in the civil parish of Patterdale. Each year, on Easter Monday, a duck race is organised by the local mountain rescue team to raise funds. On 6 December 2015, Storm Desmond caused extensive and devastating flooding to the village, with torrential rainfall and rivers bursting their banks. Four days later, more rainfall caused rivers to burst their banks once again, leading to even more flood damage to businesses and homes in the village.Following the floods the community set up a Flood Action Group who continue to work on recovery and resilience measures to reduce the risk of future flooding
Above the village is the site of the former Greenside Mine, which was once the largest lead mine in the Lake District. Lead ore was discovered in the 18th century and the site was mined from the second half of the 18th century until the mine closed in 1962. Without the mine, the houses and economy of Glenridding and the surrounding area would not have existed.
Glenridding is home to the Ullswater 'Steamers', a leisure boat trip company which operates five vessels from the pier at Glenridding. The company was founded to provide a transport link for goods from Glenridding to Pooley Bridge and onwards to Penrith.
( Glenridding - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Glenridding . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Glenridding - UK

Glenridding Dodd
In this film artist Andy Beck visits the Wainwright fell of Glenridding Dodd near the shores of Ullswater in the Lake District. It is a short walk of only 3 miles but to add extra interest Andy makes this an unusual route by visiting a delightful but unfrequented neighbouring top with fine views over the lake.
Andy is best known for his ten year project on the Lakeland Fells, The Wainwrights in Colour. You may order a copy of his multi award winning book via his website andybeckartist.co.uk
The film is entirely self-filmed on a Gopro Hero5.

Glenridding, proud base of the oldest working Ferry Boat in the World
Yes Glenridding is the place to go for a good day out and the proud base of the oldest working Ferry Boat in the World, Lady Of The Lake.
Glenridding sounds Scottish and Lady Of The Lake is from Scotland, yes she is a Scots lass, conceived in Glasgow but born on the bonny banks of Ullswater. She has been in service all her life, working for Ullswater Steamers and there are no plans for her retirement. Since the closing of the local mine, her life is easier, now she only carries passengers. They make them tough up North.
Glenridding has its own legends and the very best is the mythical King Arthur has its place in local folk legend. So the Lady Of The Lake, is an apt name for this boat. Perhaps that is why she lives on, protected by the spirit of Arthur. Or it could be the hard work and talents of the Ullswater Steamer's staff who have preserved this historic vessel.
So if you are a local or a tourist wanting the perfect destination, or you want to see a historic lady working in the Lake District National Park, Cumbria, England. Lady Of The Lake should be on your list. She works in one of the world's most beautiful valleys on the most beautiful lakes and is a beauty herself. A place for Sailors and Walkers, where you can climb a mountain or sail the blue waters,
cruise to your hearts content.

A couple of spare hours on a beautiful sunny day gives the perfect excuse to do an old favourite!
After getting the Ullswater 'Steamers' to the tiny village of Howtown, it is a nice 7.5 mile, low level walk back along the lake to Glenridding. The walk undulates for its entirety, passing in and out of beautiful native woodland and always close enough to the water for great views. The time of year meant there were plenty of lambs in the fields and everything was looking fantastically green.
A perfect way to spend a couple of hours on an impromptu day off!
