Marko Libery I Virtual Museum Tour
Marco was the son and talented part-time student of his father, famous artist Pietro Libery. In his work he imitated the style of his father. Used the effect of strong contrasts. And it is quite possible that it was the son who was the author of the painting in Uman...

Odessa Jewish Heritage: A Unique Jewish Cemetery.mov
Steve, Olga and I taxi'd to a unique Jewish Cemetery; unique to us because this was the first Jewish cemetery we've ever visited where the grave monuments were inscribed with pictures of the deceased. Jewish cemeteries usually have a plain marker with the deceased's name, dates of birth and death on it.
This is the third one, opened after World War II. As interesting as the portraits and information was, the cemetery standout had to be the gigantic area devoted to a Gypsy King, his brother and mother. The only non-Jews in the cemetery and wouldn't you love to know the story behind this? So would I!

Sofiyivka National Arboretum ep.2
At the end of the 18th century, a wonderful garden with waterfalls and fountains, lakes and unprecedented foreign flora appeared on the right bank of Ukraine in the middle of the silent steppe wasteland.
In all its manifestations, this English landscape park was also called an island of ancient culture and a European oasis on the territory of Ukraine, moreover, in within the city limits of Uman.
Today, the Sofiyivka National Arboretum is also considered an exquisite and fantastic model of park landscaping art.

UKRAINE: JEWS LEAVE FOR FUTURE LIFE IN ISRAEL
Russian/Nat
Hundreds of Jews are emigrating from Ukraine, leaving behind their homes and relatives for a better life in Israel.
They follow in the footsteps of the many dissidents who fled religious persecution in the former Soviet Union.
But the present-day exiles aren't leaving Ukraine for religious reasons - they're drawn by the economic prosperity in the promised land.
Twice a week, the departure lounge at Kiev's main airport looks like it is filled with refugees - and in a sense it is.
Hundreds of Ukrainian Jews busily make final arrangements before setting off for a new and hopefully better life in Israel, on a special flight organised by the country's Jewish community.
Those left behind continue to pray and practice Judaism in a country where the Jewish community has shrunk in number because of aging and the exodus to the Holy Land.
Most of the emigrants come from Odessa, for centuries the centre of cultural and intellectual life for Russia's Jews.
The ruins of the main synagogue bear testimony to the neglect and decay of an old culture, barely kept alive by the few elderly Jews staying behind.
In the town's centre, business is still flourishing - those leaving for Israel are eager to sell up their meagre belongings.
As they are only allowed to take few possessions on the plane taking them to the Holy Land, they are forced to sell almost all of their possessions, including their apartments.
But the old Jewish quarter is almost deserted and the few families that remain are getting ready to leave themselves.
SOUNDBITE (Russian):
There's nothing good about this place. The air is dirty, the water is polluted, the money isn't real money, the people aren't real people. They look at each other like they do in
the cartoons.
SUPER CAPTION: Elena Isayeva, museum curator
SOUNDBITE (Russian):
I just want to have a normal job and feel like a normal person. I don't want to become rich and get a Mercedes. I could do that here. But I just want to work honestly and do what I please. Here, that is just completely impossible
SUPER CAPTION: Georgy Isayev, photographer
Emigrating is no easy task.
There is an organisation in Odessa trying to advise those leaving on how to avoid the pitfalls of moving to a foreign country.
But even so, many Jews find themselves the victims of foul play, tricked into giving all their savings to bogus companies promising an easy money transfer to Israel.
SOUNDBITE (Russian):
There is no proper mechanism for the transfer of money to Israel. This is their personal property and unfortunately neither the Israeli government nor the Israeli banks have cared to worry about how these people can transfer their money
SUPER CAPTION: Iosif Zisels, Chairman Association of Ukrainian Jewish organisations
The emigrants are allowed to take only three-thousand U-S dollars out of the country.
Many of them therefore enlist the help of transfer companies - many of whom take advantage of the Jews' desperation.
But despite the dangers of losing all their money, the Jews are prepared to go great lengths to set out on this risky and arduous journey into the unknown.
SOUNDBITE (Russian):
No one is waiting for us there. We don't have relatives. So we have to start everything from beginning. we only have ourselves to depend on .
SUPER CAPTION: Semyon Sheiman, emigrant
Carrying their most valued possessions with them, another group of excited Jews walks off towards what will be a packed flight to their new lives.
They don't know what fate awaits them in Israel, but they hope for the best.
That's more than can be said for those left behind - hope is a rare commodity in Ukraine.
