SCUBA DIVING BELIZE | Ambergris Caye and Placencia | travel vlog 2019
SCUBA diving in Belize in a highlight of both the Caribbean and tourism in Central America. While the jungles attract a lot of tourists, Belize is also home to the second largest barrier reef in the world. It has so many incredible experiences for those who love to dive or snorkel. For this SCUBA diving adventure travel vlog I teamed up with PADI, a world famous diver training organization, and William Drumm, a talented underwater photographer.
We started the trip by taking a small plane from Belize City to San Pedro in Ambergris Caye. Here, we met up with Ramon's Village Resort and dove Hol Chan Marine Park, as well as many of the beautiful coral channels that snake through the reef. Highlights here for us were Nurse Sharks, Loggerhead Sea Turtles, and even an Octopus
Unfortunately our dive to The Great Blue Hole was cancelled due to weather, but ended up seeing a Bottlenose dolphin underwater close to the reef. Not a bad replacement.
Next was taking another plane from San Pedro to Placencia to meet Patricia at SPLASH dive centre to dive at Silk Caye. We island hopped, saw the underwater goddess statue, and trekked through Cockscomb Basin.
Hope you Enjoyed this SCUBA diving travel vlog in Belize!

Belize day 6: watertaxi and arrival in San Pedro for snorkeling
After dropping off our rental car, they were nice enough to drive us in our rental car to the San Pedro watertaxi. We had no idea what to expect from San Pedro and we definitely did not expect it to be a party town. It was the complete opposite from Hopkins village.
We happen to arrive on a day that they had this gambling game called Chicken Drop where people place bets on which number they think the chicken will take a crap on. Originally, we were planning to walk to the hotel from the watertaxi, but the taxi drivers said that even though the hotel isn't that far, it was a pretty good distance to walk with our luggage. The taxi ride took less than 5 minutes from the watertaxi to San Pedro Inn, and it only cost $4 USD, which was cheap and convenient.

BELIZE- Ambergris Caye || Swimming with sharks, fishing, mayan ruins- Adventure 21
We took the most amazing trip to Ambergris Caye, Belize!!! And we went swimming with sharks!!! We, sadly, left our kids behind for this trip. It was a trip for us to reconnect and just HAVE FUN together.
Let me start by saying that Belize is full of the most incredible people I have ever met. They are so friendly and genuine in every way. We stayed at the most amazing resort, Portofino Beach Resort. It is located 6 miles north of the town of San Pedro. It is so quiet, the staff are incredibly friendly, and the accommodations and amenities are top-notch. We spent days on the water with some awesome people as well. If you love to fish or snorkel, then Captain Chito is your man. He took us out a few days on some incredible excursions. We fished for hours each day and caught so many fish; nurse shark, barracuda, wahoo, trigger, grouper, snapper, etc. We snorkeled with some amazing sea creatures and saw the beautiful life under the sea at How Chan and Shark Ray Alley. We ate the most delicious food. Basically, we experienced it all and we are IN LOVE with Ambergris Caye and all that it has to offer.
If you want to go, there are a few major airlines that will get you to Belize City. From there you can take a short plane ride (recommended) or a ferry boat to San Pedro in Ambergris Caye. Once on the island, most transportation is done by boat or golf cart. It's just so incredible that you have to see it for yourself.
Thanks for watching!!

A SNORKELING AND DIVING PARADISE!!! | AMBERGRIS CAYE, BELIZE | Adventure NINE
Welcome to the Island side of Belize!
This week we take you to Ambergris Caye, Belize’s largest island. The islands of Belize have a completely different vibe from the mainland. This place is a snorkeling and diving paradise! The reef is the second largest reef system in the world and the water is so calm and clear that you could explore for hours!
In this adventure film, we visit the Hol Chan Marine Reserve and Shark and Sting Ray Alley. All of our ABCs, except for baby “B,” snorkeled the reserve and we all swam with the sharks! What a character building experience for the kids!
We also take you through the bustling town of San Pedro and go off-roading on a long, bumpy dirt rode….ON A GOLF CART….. to a Secret Beach on the north side of the island. No stay in Belize is complete without a little taste of the islands. Here are some links and adventure tips on how we did it with kids in tow.
Transportation:
There are two main ways to get to the island of Ambergris Caye from Belize City - plane or boat. We took the Belize water taxi. It is the most economical option and is a pleasant hour and a half boat ride from the mainland.
Golf Cart
The main mode of transportation on the island is a golf cart! The streets are narrow so it is easier to maneuver and they are super fun to ride around in. It helps add to the travel experience! There are a plethora of rental options in the town of San Pedro. We used Mr. Rental (Telephone: 226-4411/ 607-8186).
Accommodations:
With such a large family, it is often difficult to find accommodations that will fit all six of us without having to book two rooms. We use Airbnb often for this reason. It has a great search option that allows you to filter the accommodations by party size. With a full kitchen and more bedrooms, it helps us feel like we are actually “living” in the destination we are adventuring in.
Snorkeling: (
Most of our kids were newbie snorkelers, so patient, kid friendly instruction was critical. We couldn’t travel to Belize and not snorkel so we were going to make it work! We hit the JACKPOT with Lil' Alphonse Tours. We weren’t on a luxurious yacht, but how well they worked with our children was incredible! We all learned how to properly snorkel and the tour they gave us around the reef and the interaction with the marine life was top notch. Highly recommend!
The Secret Beach : We were on the fence on going here because we heard mixed reviews, but the ride there in itself was one of our kids’ favorite parts of the trip! It is an unpaved, BUMPY dirt rode that was exhilarating to ride on! It was a blast dodging holes and going over the bumps in the golf cart. We all laughed until our bellies hurt! The beach itself has a great vibe. Soft sand, clear water, and a little beach restaurant is all you need!
Best Belize Blog: ( If you want to go to Belize, definitely check out this blog. It was an incredible resource to us when planning this trip. It is well-organized, clear, and extremely helpful.
*Traveling ABCs Adventure Tips*
- Ambergris Caye Beaches: You are not going to get the most “perfect” beach from the shore of Ambergris Caye. The waves are practically non-existent so the water can appear stagnant in certain areas. There is also turtle grass along a lot of the shore which can feel a bit slimy under your feet. Closer to the town of San Pedro, most areas are protected with a sea wall so the only access to enter the water is from a dock. Our kids loved it though. It was a “different” type of place to explore with different elements that peaked their curiosity. And the amazing marine life that is plentiful not far off the coast easily makes up for a little less than perfect beach scene.
-San Pedro Town. What a fun little, town with lots of great restaurants with spectacular views along the water. The streets are narrow so it can feel a bit busy, and congested at certain times. We walked through the town the first night and, with kids, it was a bit stressful. Once we got the golf cart, it made it a lot more fun. And when we did decide to walk, we realized that walking along the beach was a safer option for the kids which made it more enjoyable for all of us.
-Accommodations: There are some gorgeous resorts on the island. The more north you are, you will find a more quiet, relaxing resort experience. The island is not very large so renting a golf cart and taking it into town is still very doable.

Snorkeling at Mexico Rocks at the island of Ambergris Caye Belize
When we were on the island of Ambergris Caye in Belize, we booked a tour with Belize Parasail Plus on their pontoon boat to do some snorkeling. Victor and Brian who picked us up from the dock at the place we were staying at and took us to Mexico Rocks which has to be one of the best snorkeling spots I have ever been to! We felt like we were pretty much the only people there and the water was warm and crystal clear! Most perfect day out on the water! Definitely one of the highlights of our trip!
AMBERGRIS CAYE: Welcome to San Pedro
We discover the town of San Pedro, on Ambergris Caye in Belize. We take a walk through town and have breakfast at Estel’s Dine by the Sea, the best place for breakfast in San Pedro! We then take a water taxi to X'tan Ha resort, with perhaps the best beach on the entire island. It’s the perfect place to spend an afternoon with clear, calm water. At the end of the day we go back to our Airbnb and give a tour. Finally the day ends with awesome street food in the main square- central park. Finally we discover what a pupusa is at Pupuseria Salvadoreno.

- BELIZE
Belize is a great location to experience the Central American jungles and the Caribbean Sea.
Belize is located in Central America and it is bordered to the north by Mexico, to the south and west by Guatemala and to the east by the Caribbean Sea. We are a diverse country with various cultures and languages. We also have the lowest population density in Central America with 35 people per square mile or 14 people per square kilometer.
Belize is also known for its extreme biodiversity and distinctive ecosystems. On the coast, there is a swampy coastal plain with mangrove swamps. In the south and interior there are hills and low mountains. Most of our land is undeveloped and is forested with hardwoods. It is a part of the Mesoamerican biodiversity hotspot and it has many jungles, wildlife reserves, a large variety of different species of flora and fauna and the largest cave system in Central America. Some species of Belize's flora and fauna include the black orchid, the mahogany tree, the toucan and tapirs.
- AMBERGRIS CAYE
Ambergris Caye is the biggest island in Belize. Ambergris Caye is 25 miles long and just over amile wide. Ambergris Caye is located in the Caribbean sea just off the tip of Mexico’ Yucatan Peninsula.
Ambergris Caye is protected by the second largest livign coral reef in the world.
Ambergris Caye is the perfect island if you want to experience all the amenities of a touristic place and the peace and calm of a remote Caribbean beach. Ambergris Caye attracts divers and snorkels from around the world. Its clear water and amazing reef will present you the perfect opportunity to adventure into the sea.
Ambergris is also the best point to visit the Great Blue Hole. The Great Blue Hole is a giant submarine sinkhole off the coast of Belize. The hole is circular in shape, over 300 m (984 ft) across and 108 m (354 ft) deep.
This site was made famous by Jacques Cousteau, who declared it one of the top ten scuba diving sites in the world. In 1971 he brought his ship, the Calypso, to the hole to chart its depths.
- SAN PEDRO
The main town on Ambergris Caye is San Pedro Town. It is a mile or so long and encompasses only a few street blocks. Most of the houses are wooden with zinc roofed houses. San Pedro town is the heart of Ambergris Caye and offers a wide range of restaurants, bars, souvenir shops, and banks. Since the airstrip is also located in town, most resorts and hotels are only a hop, skip & a jump away.
The main means of transportation are golf carts however bicycles, scooters, and some cars and vans are also available. The streets are sandy and unpaved so be sure to leave your fancy clothes and high heel shoes at home. There are no traffic lights, no freeways or highways, and no high-rise buildings.
The atmosphere on San Pedro is very casual. The dress of the day is usually shorts and sandals (if you can't handle being barefoot).
