SAINT LUCIA VACATION | Climbing Gros Piton in Soufrière
That's the second time I’m climbing Gros Piton. It was out last week in St.Lucia and we decided that we should do the climb on the weekend before we head back to Europe. It is definitely a MUST DO for anyone in St. Lucia or visiting! ⛰????????
We did the video because we want to show how the trail really is, so that if you are to go and climb it you have some expectations. This idea came about after we asked a few people to join us, but they thought it is too dangerous. I was a bit shocked when I heard that as I had climbed it before and it is a shaded track, with steps and railings at some parts.
Our friendly tour guide Kevin from the Soufriere Regional Foundation told us more about the trail and how to stay safe when climbing Gros Piton. The Foundation is a non-profit and is established by the people of Soufriere to promote, encourage, support, facilitate and coordinate local development initiatives in the Soufriere region. It is doing great at conserving and the Gros Piton Nature Trail. Check them out here

The Waitukubuli National Trail
Dominica, the Caribbean's Nature Island, is looking to share its beauty with hikers through the development of a 115-mile cross-island walking trail. The Waitukubuli National Trail - named after the Carib Indian name for Dominica - is a major initiative by the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica, in partnership with the Regional Council of Martinique and funded by the European Union.
The Waitukubuli National Trail is divided into 14 continuous sections. Hikers can expect to cover its entire length in two weeks, or just choose individual trail segments to enjoy. The trail passes through mountainous landscapes and rainforests, showcasing the rivers and waterfalls for which Dominica is famous and taking visitors into the heart of local communities.
Here, Ashton Lugay of the Waitukubuli National Trail Project explains how the trail is being developed and the impact it will have on Dominica's tourism industry.

Crossing the Island of St Vincent
This island, in the country of St. Vincent and the Grenadines (West Indies), is all jungle in its interior, crossed only by clear rivers. This is a record of a hike through the wilderness at the foot of the Suffriere volcano - leading through beautiful sceneries including two canyons and an enchanted forest - ending at a spectacular waterfall - Trinity Falls!
Ardencies: St. Hildegard's Blazing Plants
Marder formulates the paradox of “excessive heat” that, on the one hand, signals the ardency of faith and the love of God and, on the other, the effect of sin configured as ariditas (dryness), undoing viriditas (the greening green, a self-refreshing power of creation). The difference between the two kinds of excessive heat is folded into the material distinction between the woods and wood: while timber is dry and ready to go up in flames, living trees are anything but inert matter ready to be incinerated. Paradoxically, though, the woods themselves are ablaze; they are heat, which Hildegard associates with spirit. In them, solar energy is not only captured and detained but perpetually transformed in an ongoing elemental conversation with water, the earth, and the atmosphere.
Michael Marder is IKERBASQUE Research Professor in the Department of Philosophy at the University of the Basque Country (UPV-EHU), Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain. His writings span the fields of phenomenology, political thought, and environmental philosophy.

Description The dispute between the Soufriere Development Foundation and the Fontenella family has taken on a new twist.
A dispute between the family and the Foundation led to the shutting down of the Tet Paul nature Trail over claims by the Fontenelle family that it was owed monies by the Foundation.
However the trail passes through several families’ property and not all of them are in agreement with the Fontenelle’s actions.
The latest attempts to have the landowners enter into a memorandum of understanding have failed, and now has one of the major landowners is siding with the Foundation
[ CLAUDE DIDIER ]
The Didier family is one of the largest landowners involved, and at least two of the viewing galleries are erected on their property.
The police were called in to the site today to charge one of the landowners at the center of the dispute for removing signs erected by the Foundation on the site and replacing them with new ones.

Excerpt from my website on Discovering Bequia Island (
Discovering Bequia – After crossing the Atlantic Ocean and then hanging out in St Lucia for a month hubby and I started to get itchy feet. We enjoyed St Lucia’s lovely Rodney Bay Marina, both on the jetty and when using a mooring ball. Furthermore, we anchored in the popular Marigot Bay and a few other places near the town of Soufriere and the famous volcanic Pitons.
The time had come, however, to leave our first Caribbean destination and start exploring the surrounding area
While looking at a map my husband, Simon, and I discussed various game plans – the main question was, ‘should we go south to St Vincent and the Grenadines or north to Martinique?’
You’d think that we would have spent weeks considering our options but when we decided to make a move, we opened the map, had a ten-minute discussion and then started preparing the boat for departure.
During our stay in St Lucia, however, we received reports from a variety of other sailors about what’s good and what isn’t. Feedback on Martinique was very positive yet many boaters said to give St Vincent a miss due to high crime. Surely over the course of our meanderings around St Lucia our thoughts were being formed about our next destination.
I always find it funny how we never truly know where we’re going until we actually start sailing somewhere
After a very rocky seven hours, Britican headed into wind, I dropped the mainsail and Simon motored us into Admiralty Bay just outside the capital town of Port Elizabeth on the island of Bequia.
Sailors and contacts on my Sailing Britican FaceBook page espoused amazing reports about the small island – I heard that the area was unspoiled, full of tropical delights and home to very kind locals.
Once we anchored in the bay I looked around and thought that Bequia looked like any other island.
I wondered where all the positive reports were coming from. Sure, there were the typical colored houses on the tropically green hillside painted blue, pink, orange, and green. And the beach looked like it had lovely sand embraced with a backdrop of tall palm trees. But there were two large unsightly cargo ships parked in the bay, loads of sailboats and big ugly barge doing the rounds with, ‘Water, Laundry and Diesel’ written on the side.
Many people make the mistake that it’s us boaters that have the best view in town, but that’s not always the case.
It wasn’t until the following day when hubby took the crew and I to shore that I started to realize just how amazing Bequia really is. When we first took our dingy to one of the many dingy pontoons, and I took a few steps onto land, I noticed a very colorful, inviting and relaxed backdrop.
The main strip is filled with natural beauty including the light sandy beach, variety of colorful trees, bushes and shrubs. And the restaurants, bars and shops are not only colorful but each one has distinct character.
The Chameleon Café, situated in the busiest area of the harbor, has a seating area that’s hidden behind lovely big palms. Crewmember Eve and I enjoyed ‘one of the best smoothies on the island’ (Eve’s words) and a glass of wine (guess who had the wine?).
Find out what rating I gave Bequia. Read the full article here:
