Union Station Worcester Massachusetts
Built in 1911 of white glazed terracotta, Union Station is a powerful symbol of Worcester at the height of its industrial prosperity. This Beaux Arts Classical style building is modeled after the ancient Basilica of Maxentius in Rome, but with the addition of two ornate baroque-style towers that break the skyline as they rise high above the main facade. Inside, the station's grand hall is one of the city's most dramatic interior spaces – with a soaring vaulted ceiling, stained glass skylights, ornate plasterwork, and marble trim.
Today’s station replaced a very handsome Victorian Gothic style Union Station, opened in 1875, which stood nearby on Washington Square. With ground-level tracks, that station became obsolete in the early 20th century when it became necessary to elevate the tracks to avoid traffic problems. Special engineering was required to construct the foundation for the new building because underneath it ran the Blackstone Canal. The old station was demolished, but its tall stone tower was left standing until it was removed in the late 1950s for the construction of Interstate 290.
After World War II, with the increasing use of the automobile, fewer and fewer people relied on train travel. Gradually, the station fell into disuse and was closed in 1972. By the 1990s, Union Station was an abandoned ruin – its roof open to the rain. The stained glass ceiling fell in and seedling trees grew up through cracks in the masonry. But, public sentiment called for its preservation. Under the auspices of the Worcester Redevelopment Authority, the station interior was completely rebuilt. The glazed terracotta exterior was cleaned and repaired. New towers were built to reproduce the originals. Now of fiberglass, they are strong and light enough to withstand the vibrations caused by passing trains. In July of 2000, after a $32 million restoration, the station reclaimed its role as the city's key transportation hub – and one of Worcester's grandest buildings.

A walk around downtown Worcester Massachusetts
Worcester (Massachusetts) To Hartford (Connecticut)
Worcester is a city in, and the county seat of, Worcester County, Massachusetts, United States. Named after Worcester, England, as of the 2010 Census the city's population was 181,045, making it the second most populous city in New England after Boston. Worcester is located approximately 40 miles (64 km) west of Boston, 50 miles (80 km) east of Springfield and 40 miles (64 km) north of Providence. Due to its location in Central Massachusetts, Worcester is known as the Heart of the Commonwealth, thus, a heart is the official symbol of the city. However, the heart symbol may also have its provenance in lore that the Valentine's Day card, although not invented in the city, was mass-produced and popularized by Esther Howland who resided in Worcester.
Hartford is the capital city of Connecticut. It was the seat of Hartford County until Connecticut disbanded county government in 1960. The city is nicknamed the Insurance Capital of the World, as it hosts many insurance company headquarters and is the region's major industry. It is the core city in the Greater Hartford area of Connecticut. Census estimates since the 2010 United States Census have indicated that Hartford is the fourth-largest city in Connecticut, behind the coastal cities of Bridgeport, New Haven, and Stamford.

The Worcester-Boston nonstop train pulled into South Station 4 minutes late, but riders were still smiling, saying it saved them 40 minutes overall.
Worcester: Midtown Mall Tour, by Request
By many requests, here is a quick tour of the Midtown Mall, just a block away from the former Galleria/Fashion Outlets Mall (now City Square), Worcester, Massachusetts.
They did try to make it look very nice, trying to give it that outdoor feel, with the fake rooflines. None of the stores are the big chains, rather, Mom and Pop.
There was one spot where audio was muted, due to strong copyrighted music in the background, and yes, I do actually repeat that they tried to make this place look nice, in the original audio. That's not a goof on the dubbing.
Since we couldn't get to the 2nd floor right off (people hanging around the staircase), we look at the basement next, then take the long trip back to show it last.
Railfanning Western Massachusetts With Foreign Power, Heritage Units & Hornshows! (6/29/18-7/1/18)
Last weekend (6/29/18 - 7/1/18 Amtrak Productions embarked on a railfanning trip all across Western Massachusetts and into the Northern part a little bit. We started off in Grafton, MA where we saw an Inbound and Amtrak #449. We then went to check into our hotel (The Homewood Suites by Hilton Worcester) which had an awesome view of the B&A as well as the Gardener Branch. We saw from there CSX Q022 arrive, several MBTA trains, as well as CSX Y220 switching out Q022's consist (all not included in the video) After that, we went down to see a couple rush hour trains at Worcester Union Station. Q427 came off the Gardener Branch, but since we were at the other of the platform we missed the power and I felt no need to film the cars. We then went to have dinner, and when we came back we looked out the hotel window and saw an NS Dash 9 on Q161 which was building its train to head back West. We ran over there as fast as we could, and when we got there, we caught it just in time, pulling out to double back onto another track. We saw another outbound and called it a night, since we had to wake up early in the morning and Amtrak #448 was five hours late and not expected to arrive in Worcester till around midnight. The next morning, we found ourselves trackside at The Steaming Tender at around seven. Nothing showed up until nine and that was Q264. Only a little more than fifteen minutes passed when we looked up and Q012 whizzed passed. We missed it because I turned my scanner off (which was a very bad call) cause I was sick of hearing the stupid EOT beep from Palmer yard. An hour passed by and finally Q022 peeked around the corner. After he passed, we had a quick lunch an we were off to Ashland, MA. We saw two MBTAs and then learned that Amtrak #449 had had a switch problem at South Station and was over thirty minutes late. We left because we were all so exhausted. Later that evening, we went to Walden Pond for a swim and then walked down to Concord MBTA Station where we saw two more commuters. Then next morning we went to West Medford MBTA Station to see Amtrak #690 which we knew would have Amtrak's Phase IV Heritage Unit #184 trailing. I then drove back to New York. I have noticed upon editing this video that the quality is pretty bad and I think that's because I dropped and cracked my phone which I record the videos with. I had the screen fixed but for the camera, I have decided that I'm going to get another DSLR. That isn't too far out so expect much better quality in the videos ahead.

A Vision Of Worcester In The Year 2020
Worcester Business Development Corporation created this virtual tour of their vision of what Worcester's downtown will look like in the year 2020.
Hanging out on Main Street in Worcester, Mass.
This is one video in a series that I have taken since I discovered that the camera I got for $10. from one of my tenants who frequents pawn shops on check day needed cigarettes and offered it for sale to me. I used to use either 35MM Zoom lens that I have been using since the 80's, or the disposable flash camera's.
I can't afford to develop all the rolls that I have taken over the 11 years that I have been managing this property located at 703-711 Main Street, Worcester, Mass.
The beauty of the new technology that I never realized is that I can download the movies or stills right into my laptop without having to pay to get them developed.
Watch out Stephen Spielberg, here I come, LOL
My intent with these video's is to educate and inform the general Worcester public about your rights, duties, and obligations as citizens of these United States of America.
The immigrant coming in knows more about that than the average resident who is fearful of reprisal and are unwilling to cooperate with investigators due to gang affiliations of the lawbreakers.
The law was designed to deal with any situation, and in order for it to work properly, citizens must assist the local and State Police in prosecution of the evil doers in our midst.
To do nothing is not a realistic option. I do my civic duty when and where I must, as I am gifted with a superior upbringing to obey the law of our land. I hope to show that things will improve with the cooperation of concerned and caring members of our society in providing law enforcement with information regarding criminal activity. Yea though I walk through the valley in the shadow of death, I shall fear no evil, for you are with me, for thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me. Psalm 23 verse 4
