Destination WA - Broome
Broome was founded on the pearling industry and is known to attract thousands of tourists each year, but what makes Broome so unique?
Cruising in Broome, Western Australia
The exotic pearling port of Broome is a town of striking contrasts. Nature has blessed Broome with 22 kilometres of beautiful white sand and turquoise water at Cable Beach, striking rust-red cliffs, Broome pearl farms and 130 million year old dinosaur footprints. Broome is a melting pot of cultures, creating an exotic mix of historic sites and fusion flavours.
MEGA FISHING IN BROOME | ESCAPE FISHING WITH ET
Andrew and Monique Ettingshausen have stayed an fished in some spectacular places, but none compare with Ramada Eco Beach Resort south of Broome. The welcome they get to this unique country sets up a series of adventures, from chasing Sailfish from a game boat to tasting bush tucker Kimberley style. On the other side of Australia in tropical North Queensland, ET goes after Tuna near Hinchinbrook Island – and comes up with thumping GTs as well. In the Peter Faust Dam near Proserpine, he hooks up with Barra almost as big as the kayak he’s riding. But for truly big thrills, nothing comes close to the West Coast Whales that close the show!
Broome, Western Australia
Renowned for its unique and spectacular scenery Broome and the surrounding districts off a lot to the traveller. Rob van Driesum from Caravan World magazine offers some highlights.

Third video in a series of six about an 8000km road journey from tropical Darwin in Australia's far north to distant Perth in it's deep south west. Part three starts in remote and fascinating Broome on the tropical Indian Ocean coastline of north Western Australia, to embark on a 600km desolate road journey to the coastal iron-ore-export terminal at Port Hedland sited midway south on our long journey from Darwin and then inland over rough terrain to the iron ore mines of the amazing Pilbara. Here, we see the Hammersley Mining Company's huge mine in operation, before exploring the magnificent nearby Karajini National Park, with it's rugged ironstone ridges, deep ravines and superbly cool swimming holes in this remote sunbaked country - before heading further south to Perth in later videos. A superb journey through many of the scenic gems of this vast and quite unique southern continent!

Today Broome has developed into an iconic Western Australian tourism town and Chinatown is its heart and soul. A boutique retail hub and a site of historical significance, it is a unique and special place well worth visiting!

Growing perfection can take a while, but in Broome there’s lots to see in the meantime.
The pearling capital of Australia, Broome is the western gateway to the Kimberley wilderness - home to world famous Cable Beach sunsets and the natural phenomenon of the Staircase to the Moon.
Just a two and a half hour flight from Perth transports you to this tropical oasis of striking contrasts in colour and culture, where the vibe is very relaxed but there's so much to engage the senses. There are a number of flights a day from Perth to Broome as well as a number of direct flights weekly from most capital cities.

TRAVEL TIPS
Tip 1 - Beach live Broome
Cable Beach is a well-known spot, so a visit here is mandatory. This white sandy beach offers many great activities. Broome has huge tidal movements and visiting the beach at low tide will provide you with a large expanse of sandy beach to enjoy - swimming, fishing, kayaking and surfing or just relax and soak up some sunshine.
Tip 2 – Sunset beer at Cable Beach
For a spectacular ocean sunset, Cable Beach will not disappoint. With colors ranging from purples and golds to fiery reds, the skies light up as the sun slowly sinks into the sea, providing picture perfect photo opportunities. Don’t be surprised that people visit Cable Beach with their 4WD!
Tip 3 – Iconic camel tour at Cable Beach
Cable Beach is famous for its iconic camel rides. Sitting high astride a camel while it walks rhythmically in time with the camel train gives you a different perspective of this magical location. We booked the tour directly at the beach.
Tip 4 – Dinner at Cable Beach Club Resort
Excellent food and beautiful location:
Tip 5 – Cape Leveque Road
The Cape Leveque Road is a regional road that runs through woodland for about 240 kilometers between Broome and Cape Leveque on the Dampier Peninsula. The unsealed and quite corrugated southern section of the road is often closed during the wet season when flooding makes it impassable.
Tip 6 – Kooljaman Wilderness Camp
Kooljaman at Cape Leveque is a remote wilderness camp owned and run by the Indigenous Bardi Jawi Communities. Situated on native title land, the locals invite you to share the astonishing diversity, pristine wilderness and unique landscape that celebrate this award-winning place as a once in a lifetime experience. Don’t forget to book in advance and early enough:
Tip 7 – Brian Lee Hunters Creek Tagalong Tour
Let Brian Lee share his country and unique Aboriginal perspective with you. Follow him down to the banks of Hunter’s Creek. Taste seasonal bush fruit and hear the ancient stories of a people who once walked this timeless landscape. Learn traditional fishing and crabbing methods. The tour concludes under a shady tree, where you cook up your catch - Bardi style on an open fire.
Tip 8 – Lombadina Community & Beach
Lombadina is an Aboriginal community on Cape Leveque. The place offers visitors a unique opportunity to experience the local way of life. Relax on white sandy beaches, characterized by pristine turquoise waters and experience the thrilling fishing and breathtaking whale watching.
Tip 9 – Bully's Bushcamp – Djoodoon
The track isn't on any maps. We came to the turn off to Djoodoon and as we went on through the sand and then some larger wet areas, we seriously started to doubt about our map reading skills. After close to 45 minutes, we arrived at Bully’s Camp. The ‘facilities’ were quite basic but it was simply great. The camp was run by a Vietnam vet who hasn’t really left there in a decade. Cygnet Bay is just beautiful. But no swimming here as there were mangroves and this side of the peninsula is croc habitat for sure.

The horizontal falls is a natural phenomenon created by water building up faster than the over side of the gap. Its Like an old fashion weight - you place a weight on one side, the other side rises up and as you lift the weight off it goes to the other side. The water build up depends on the tide.
