Universiade Torch Relay arrives in capital of Russia - 27th Summer Universiade 2013 - Kazan
The Universiade Flame reached Moscow on June 2. The official Torch Relay train arrived at the Kursky Railway Station where crowds of Muscovites welcomed the main symbol of the World University Games with fanfare. The Universiade Flame travelled to Moscow from Vladimir -- one of the cities in Russia's famous Golden Ring -- where it received a rapturous welcome on June 1. The Torch Relay will begin in the Russian capital today, June 3. A total of 42 Torchbearers will carry the Universiade Flame through the streets of Moscow and light the City Cauldron of the upcoming Games in Moscow. The city's most outstanding university students, Kazan 2013 Ambassadors, Olympic champions, volunteers as well as representatives of the 27th Summer Universiade's partner companies will be among those carrying the Flame. Moscow is the 17th city on the Russian leg of the Universiade Torch Relay, and the route it will follow in the capital is among the longest ones: 8,080 metres along the city's central streets and squares. The Relay will start at the front steps of the Lomonosov Moscow State University -- Russia's main institution of higher education -- and continue through Universitetskaya Square, Vernadsky Prospekt and the Frunzenskaya Embankment, ending beside the Monument to Juan Antonio Samaranch at the Luzhniki Stadium's Walk of Fame where the City Cauldron will be kindled.
The main symbol of the World University Games will be stored at the Lomonosov Moscow State University during the Torch's stay in the capital of Russia. As we reported earlier, the Universiade Torch Lighting Ceremony took place at Paris-Sorbonne University where the first 'World Student Games' were held in 1923. The historic moment in the Torch Relay arrived when the Universiade Flame embarked on a round-the-world voyage aboard the world's largest bark - the tall ship Sedov. On July 15th, the Torch was handed over to a team of navy cadets -- the Keepers of the Universiade Flame. Travelling aboard the bark Sedov, the Torch covered 45,000 nautical miles and repeated the route of greatest sailors of all times.

The Kirov was laid down in 1935, and she promised to become the pride and glory of the Soviet shipbuilding. And she delivered on this promise. The first of surface vessels of the Baltic fleet, she was awarded with the Red Banner order for the successful combat operations during World War II, and her name made history.
