THE SILVER TREASURE
Come admire beautiful objects in gold and sold, made in Bergen over the course of 500 years
Tankards, cups, spoons and jewellery is just some examples of what you can find in the spectacular Silver Treasure exhibition. The exhibition was opened by Her Majesty Queen Sonja on the 7th of May 2009, and is presented in a large display case designed by Kristin Jarmund Architects. For hundreds of years, Bergen has been an important centre for the production of gold and silver objects. The Bergen Goldsmiths' Guild, established in 1568, formed part of an international artisanal community that ensured that the pieces produced were of high quality.
The items have played a central role in both public and private rituals. The wedding ring, the heirloom silverware, and the mayoral collar are all important objects with great symbolic value. For a long time, silver and gold objects also acted as a store of value at a time when there were no banks in Norway, and in recent years they have also become popular collector's items..
PEOPLE AND POSSESSIONS
Explore the history of European design, decorative art and craft-based art from the last 500 years- from majestic rococo cupboards and kitchen tools by Alessi to haute couture by Per Spook and furniture by Le Corbusier and Arne Jacobsen.
The exhibition covers approx. 2000 items that represents all the techniques and materials of the decorative art from the 16 th century till today. Glass, ceramics, porcelain, metal works, fashion, textiles, furniture and carving over a 500 year period. The China Collection is Northern Europe's largest of Buddhist sculptures in marble and was donated by the general J. W. N. Munthe (1864-1935), who was a passionate collector of Chinese art. Also porcelain, jade, bronze, textile and paintings. Changing exhibitions of arts, craft, and design.
ART 1400-1900
On the first floor of KODE 1, you can explore the core of the museum's collections.
The works range from Russian and Greek icons, Old Master paintings and the Norwegian Golden Age, to Norwegian and international Modernism. World renowned artists from the last century such are represented with several works. A separate wing is devoted to 'the father of Norwegian Painting', J.C. Dahl, and his students.
RASMUS MEYER COLLECTION
Experience highlights from the Norwegian 'golden age' of painting and an unique Edvard Munch collection.
Edvard Munch is presented in a new and separate exhibition in the newly reopened Rasmus Meyer Collection in KODE 3. Rasmus Meyer was among the first significant collectors of Munch's art, and he wished to collect works that could provide a more comprehensive impression of Munch's creative development. He secured major works from all of Munch's artistic periods, with the result that Bergen has one of the world's most important collections of Munch's art today. The expressly built mansion dates from 1924 and also houses a fantastic collection of art from the Golden Age in Scandinavian art, as well as historical interiors from the Bergen area. The exhibition includes highlights from the careers of artists such as Christian Krohg, Harriet Backer, Nikolai Astrup, Erik Werenskiold and Gerhard Munthe.
Nikolai Astrup (1880--1928) is one of Norway's most beloved artists.
Above all, he is known for creating lush and wild landscapes and for depicting the traditional life of western Norway. Along with Edvard Munch he expanded the artistic possibilities of woodcuts.
The exhibition includes paintings, prints and drawings.
On the second floor of KODE 4, the main art movements of the 20th century is presented in a new manner.
Which were the major currents in European Modernism? Which tendencies dominated Norwegian and Scandinavian art? And how did the avantgarde make itself known in Bergen?
The new permanent exhibition of the museum's 20th century collection presents both a local and an international perspective, with works by Picasso, Munch, Klee, Jorn, Weidemann, Slettemark, Gruppe 66 and others.

Places to see in ( London - UK ) V&A - Victoria and Albert Museum
The Victoria and Albert Museum, London, is the world's largest museum of decorative arts and design, housing a permanent collection of over 4.5 million objects. V&A - Victoria and Albert Museum was founded in 1852 and named after Queen Victoria and Prince Albert.
V&A - Victoria and Albert Museum is located in the Brompton district of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, in an area that has become known as Albertopolis because of its association with Prince Albert, the Albert Memorial and the major cultural institutions with which he was associated. These include the Natural History Museum, the Science Museum and the Royal Albert Hall. V&A - Victoria and Albert Museum is a non-departmental public body sponsored by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. Like other national British museums, entrance to V&A - Victoria and Albert Museum has been free since 2001.
V&A - Victoria and Albert Museum covers 12.5 acres and 145 galleries. V&A - Victoria and Albert Museum collection spans 5,000 years of art, from ancient times to the present day, from the cultures of Europe, North America, Asia and North Africa. The holdings of ceramics, glass, textiles, costumes, silver, ironwork, jewellery, furniture, medieval objects, sculpture, prints and printmaking, drawings and photographs are among the largest and most comprehensive in the world. V&A - Victoria and Albert Museum owns the world's largest collection of post-classical sculpture, with the holdings of Italian Renaissance items being the largest outside Italy. The departments of Asia include art from South Asia, China, Japan, Korea and the Islamic world. The East Asian collections are among the best in Europe, with particular strengths in ceramics and metalwork, while the Islamic collection is amongst the largest in the Western world. Overall, V&A - Victoria and Albert Museum is one of the largest museums in the world.
Since 2001, V&A - Victoria and Albert Museum has embarked on a major £150m renovation programme, which has seen a major overhaul of the departments, including the introduction of newer galleries, gardens, shops and visitor facilities. The V&A has no museums or galleries of its own outside London. Instead it works with a small number of partner organisations in Sheffield, Dundee and Blackpool to provide a regional presence.
The V&A is in discussion with the University of Dundee, University of Abertay, Dundee City Council and the Scottish Government with a view to opening a new £43 million gallery in Dundee that would use the V&A brand although it would be funded through and operated independently. As of 2015, with costs estimated at £76 million, it is the most expensive gallery project ever undertaken in Scotland. The V&A Dundee will be on the city's waterfront and is intended to focus on fashion, architecture, product design, graphic arts and photography. It is planned that it could open within five years. Dundee City Council is expected to pay a major part of the running costs. The V&A is not contributing financially, but will be providing expertise, loans and exhibitions. The V&A is one of 17 museums across Europe and the Mediterranean participating in a project called Discover Islamic Art. Developed by the Brussels-based consortium Museum With No Frontiers, this online virtual museum brings together more than 1200 works of Islamic art and architecture into a single database. Victoria and Albert Museum's came second to the London's top paid exhibitions in 2015 with the record-breaking Alexander McQueen show (3,472 a day).

13 Great Attraction in Scandinavia according to Lonely Planet
13 Great Attraction in Scandinavia according to Lonely Planet
13. Vestmanna Cliffs, Faroe Islands
Vestmanna is a village in Northern Streymoy, Faroe Islands. The cliffs west of Vestmanna, are very popular for excursions by boat. These are awe inspiring as the boat weaves around stacks, through arches and into caves; arctic and great skuas and gannets can be seen as well as puffins, common and black guillemots, razorbills, fulmars and arctic terns galore.
12. Thermal Springs & Saunas, Iceland
Public heated swimming pools and attendant hot pots are commonplace throughout in Iceland. The Blue Lagoon near Reykjavík, with its vivid, translucent blue, 100°F/40°C waters (cooled from their original temperature after being being pumped from a mile underground and powering an electrical plant) is a popular destination.
11. Ice Hotel, Sweden
A hotel constructed entirely out of ice. There are many copycats now, but this is the original. For obvious reasons, the 'ice' part of the hotel exists only between November and May, and a stay will cost you upwards of €300/night. They also offer ordinary rooms in the summer.
10. Skagen, Denmark
Skagen is the northernmost town in Denmark. It is a town where the main turnover are the fishing fleet and the connected industries - food industries and different industries supporting the fleet. Second income is tourism. There are 8.900 habitants in the town but in the main tourist season the inhabitants increase up to 50-60,000 persons.
9. New Nordic Food
When Noma topped S.Pellegrino's 2010 'World's 50 Best Restaurants' list, Copenhagen's culinary prowess was confirmed. Other countries have followed Denmark's lead, and exciting new restaurants now stock all the region's capitals, with more popping up like chanterelle mushrooms.
8. Island Cycling
A lazy bike ride around the perimeters of Gotland, the holiday-friendly Baltic Sea island, is one of the most rewarding ways to spend your time in Sweden: the mostly flat, paved Gotlandsleden cycle path circles the island, passing fields of poppies, shady woodlands, historic churches and ancient rune stones at regular intervals.
7. Old Town, Tallinn
Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, lies on the southern coast of the Gulf of Finland. At the historical and medieval heart of the city is the hill of Toompea, covered in cobbled streets and filled with medieval houses and alleyways. The lower town spreads out from the foot of the hill, still protected by the remnants of a city wall.
6. Svalbard, Norway
Svalbard is the northernmost tip of Europe and, a few military bases aside, its settlements are the northernmost permanently inhabited spots on the planet. Located between the 76° and 81° parallels, they are far more northerly than any part of Alaska.
5. Lofoten Islands, Norway
Lofoten is a group of islands in the northern part of Norway. With its postcard looking small fishing villages nestled in fjords, dotting a very rugged coast with abrupt peaks rising directly from the ocean, the archipelago is often described as one of the most scenic parts of Norway.
4. The Hermitage, St Petersburg
The State Hermitage is a museum of art and culture in Saint Petersburg, Russia. One of the largest and oldest museums in the world, it was founded in 1764 by Catherine the Great and has been open to the public since 1852. Its collections, of which only a small part is on permanent display, comprise over three million items, including the largest collection of paintings in the world.
3. Aurora Borealis, Lapland & Iceland
The Northern Lights look somewhat similar to a sunset in the sky at night, but appear occasionally in arcs or spirals usually following the earth's magnetic field. They fairly often look like moving curtains of light, high in the sky. They are most often light green in color but often have a hint of pink.
2. Fjords, Norway
Norway's famous fjords are found throughout the country and not limited to a particular region or location. In most parts of Norway fjords are the dominant landscape features, traditional districts are often identified by proximity to a major fjord and often have the same name.
1. National Park Hiking
Scandinavia's unspoilt wilderness areas are the finest in Europe. If you like dark pine woods populated by foxes and bears, head for northeastern Finland's Karhunkierros trail. Norway's Jotunheimen National Park encompasses hundreds of lofty mountain peaks and crystal-blue lakes. Lying inside the Arctic Circle, Abisko National Park in Sweden begins the epic 440km Kungsleden hiking trail.

Ancient Civilizations Modern Discoveries - Brien Foerster (The justBernard Show)
Dive into a secret world not often spoken of with alternative history author and adventurer Brien Foerster as he uncovers evidence that advanced technology and human history are at least 10,000 years old. Having recently explored Egypt, Peru, Bolivia and Baalbek in Lebanon, Brien joins Bernard to share his findings and theories on some the most amazing structures built by man.
He is the author of 8 books with multiple appearances on Ancient Aliens.
Brien was born in Rochester, Minnesota, U.S.A. but grew up on the west coast of Canada. At age 11, he became fascinated with the Native art of the Haida native people, and began carving totem poles, and other related art forms, learning from Native teachers. After completing an Honours Bachelor Of Science degree, Brien decided to take up carving and sculpture full time, at the age of 25.
In 1995 he moved to Maui, Hawaii, and was hired as assistant project manager for the building of the 62 foot double hull sailing canoe ( ancestor of the modern day catamaran ) Mo’okiha O Pi’ilani ( Sacred Lizard That Pierces The Heavens ) and the restoration of the famous Mo’olele sailing canoe. This project lasted 2 years.
There, having learned how to make Hawaiian outrigger canoe paddles from master carver Keola Sequiera, he started an online outrigger paddle business, which flourished internationally.
Peru became his next major area of interest. The study of the Inca culture led to his writing a book, A Brief History Of The Incas which is available on this site, and is now the assistant director of the Paracas History Museum in Paracas, south of Lima. He is also assisting the municipality of Paracas to improve the number of foreign tourists that visit, as well as is fundamental in expanding tourism in general, especially as regards showing all visitors the 10,000 years of human occupation of this area, through tours of major and minor archaeological sites.
Other projects, which will result in published books, include one about the ancient history of Hawaii, the mysterious stone monuments of Peru that predate the Inca, and the search for the lost continent of Mu. This will require combining all that he has learned so far, with trips to New Zealand (Aotearoa), Hawaii, and Easter island (Rapanui.)
