BEAUTIFUL ILLINOIS: A Timelapse of UIUC [4K]
7 hrs 50 min of recording, 5 hours of editing, and 2 months of procrastination later, I am proud to present, Beautiful Illinois, a timelapse of 17 different locations in the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign! This project was done because I was bored during my summer session at UIUC and wanted to take my camera and shoot some stuff around campus when there wasn't as many people around. I've always found time lapses really fun to watch, so I thought why not do one of my school? As such, this is the result!
Some fun facts:
- Video was shot in 4K, 24FPS, 100Mbps, on a Panasonic G7 with the included kit lens, with no color correction done in editing-what you see is literally what you get out of the box with this camera. I'm honestly pretty impressed since I literally just framed the camera and then pressed record and sat there for 30 mins doing nothing.
- Video was edited on Adobe Premiere Elements 15-this is my first project edited on this as I was using Movie Studio beforehand, and Movie Studio wouldn't let you speed up the clips more than 4X for some reason, hence the shift to this. Adobe Premiere Elements does let you do a lot more than Movie Studio, and although it is more expensive, even for students, it is still better than having to pay for a yearly license like the Pro version.
- The excessive camera shake in some clips is thanks to the wind and a $15 tripod that I found on B&H. I have since upgraded to a Manfrotto Compact Advanced tripod, which is MUCH sturdier.
- The total amount of disk space for just the raw clips along is taking up 295 GB of space. This edited file alone is 9.2 GB.
- Final video was rendered out in 4K 60FPS 300 Mbps because everything's a bit overkill anyways, so why not this (I know YouTube's going to compress it to hell, but oh well).
Big thanks to Approaching Nirvana, who allows use of their songs on any Youtube video as long as there is a creative component added to it! Check them out at This song is called Lapse (very appropriately named).

#1 Your Journey to the University of Illinois: Getting Started
This is the first of a three-part video series to aid international students in adjusting to life at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. In Getting Started, Kyungeun Lee and Jung In Kim (U of I alumni) teach incoming students about developing an action plan, packing, housing, insurance/health, academic courses, and more.
Small UIUC Quad Tour & Largest what??
My daughter and I were down at the flagship university of our state, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). It was registration and orientation day. Woot woot! I'm sorry I stopped reading the plaque by the Alma Mater. I get really embarrassed/shy when people walk up to me out of nowhere. Lorado Taft received his B.A and M.A. from university, and became a famous sculptor. His works are throughout the campus, the state, and the United States.

Daniels Hall - Single Dorm Room 2012-2013 - University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
Please read this description.
This video was taken in my dorm room at Daniels Hall (room #448, in case you're wondering) on the campus of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). It is a single with a private bathroom. I was enrolled as a graduate student at the time. I took this because I wanted to memorialize my last year and semester there before I graduated in May.
Daniels Hall is primarily for single (not married) grad students, but it is also open to some upper level undergrads and sophomores (if space is available). Daniels is a popular dorm because of the room size, privacy and location. It is very close to the Main Quad, Engineering Quad, has a 24-hour service desk, air conditioning, exercise room, laundry facilities and dining across the street at Illinois Street Residence (ISR).
Daniels has mostly single rooms, some with private baths, others with shared baths. There are also double rooms. There are no communal bathrooms in Daniels. It also has (supposedly) 24-hour quiet hours, again because it is a graduate residence hall. I did have some noise problems on my floor and on the floor below me during the Fall 2012 semester.
I just want to make aware those who may be considering Daniels has their new home at UIUC. This is not your typical dorm. It is a very different living environment than dorms by the Ikenberry or even ISR. It is not boisterous and loud, and students do not leave their doors open in the hallways here. It is very, very quiet.
