It wasn't until the onset of the twentieth century that things like admiring nature became fashionable in the United States. People like president Theodore Roosevelt, and author John Muir, help to popularize setting aside public lands for the preservation of wildlife and other natural resources. Because of this foresight, Michigan's residents and visitors can enjoy one of the nation's premier park systems.
The Mackinac Bridge, Michigan's Upper Peninsula USA!
The Mackinac Bridge is currently the third longest suspension bridge in the world. The total length of the Mackinac Bridge is 26, 372 feet. Thank you for watching. God bless.. ❤️????

To date we're already at over 150 of snow, and we usually go well over 250 of snow each year. People from all over the United States come here and ski the area. The UP has got it all; it's got good deep snow, good groomed runs, and lots and lots of terrain to ski on.
Finnish Americans in Michigan's Upper Peninsula (in Finnish and English)
In English and Finnish
The greatest concentration of Finnish Americans is in Michigan Upper Peninsula.
One of the most puzzling things about The Upper Peninsula is that Finnish-Americans still cherish their roots. The opening of several copper mines in the area brought thousands of Finnish emigrants in the area between 1900 and 1910. The descendants of those early Finns still live in the area and many of them speak Finnish, even though they may have never even visited Finland. Andrea tells me though, that it is a tradition among these Finns to make at least once-in-a-lifetime sojourn to the land of their ancestors. We met local Finnish retirees at Suomi Restaurant in Hancock. They came from various backgrounds, having made their careers in business, civil engineering and farming. They have also kept their forefathers' faiths, whether Lutheran or Laestadian.
Most of the footage was taken at Hancock, Michigan, a city of 4,600 residents on the North shore of Portage Lake. It also has the title of the northernmost City in Michigan. Finnish influence in Hancock is everywhere. One can see it just by walking down its streets. The street signs are both in English and Finnish, and there are Finnish flags in each street corner. I would soon learn, that many of the locals also speak Finnish.

Hiawatha National Forest (7 EPIC MUST SEE PLACES!) Upper Peninsula Michigan
In this episode I drove 400 miles and only had 2 days to see the most fantastic places while RV camping on this Upper Peninsula Michigan/Lake Superior, Hiawatha National Forest adventure. I suspected this was going to be different than any others and boy was I right! If you are planning to visit the Munising MI/Au Train Michigan area… here are my 7 MUST-SEE places.
We camped in the Hiawatha National Forest at the Bay Furnace campground, a Michigan State Forest campground and this was the best location on the south shores of Lake Superior for us to explore the area. Nearby is Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, Au Train Falls, upper Michigan waterfalls, Miners Falls and Miners Castle. These sightseeing attractions were amazing!
Stop #1
We found a very rough road that lead to majestic rocks on Lake Superior shoreline by Au Train Bay – located in between Au Train and Munising.
Stop #2
Au Train Beach
Stop #4
Pizza – Zaf’s Party Store
Stop #5
Au Train Falls – breathtaking upper Michigan waterfalls!
Stop #6
Miners Castle at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore
Miners Castle has an overlook above some of the Pictured Rocks (standing atop the dramatic sandstone cliffs that border Lake Superior for 15 miles Northeast of Munising, Michigan. The views were amazing. Next time I visit I will view Pictured Rocks via a boat and there are commercial boat tours from the Munising city dock.
While here we also took the Lower Overlook Trail to Miners Castle – Big Pictured Rocks
And the Lake Superior beach here was great for rock collecting.
Stop #7
Miners Falls – a short trail leading to the waterfalls to these spectacular Upper peninsula Michigan waterfalls.
If you are looking for Munising MI things to do, I recommend this list of epic places. I can’t wait to come back for more Hiawatha National Forest adventures!

Michigan Upper Peninsula - Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, Miners Castle
On the shore of Lake Superior, Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, United States. It extends for 42 miles (67 km) along the shore and covers 73,236 acres (114 sq mi; 296 km2). The park offers spectacular scenery of the hilly shoreline between Munising, Michigan and Grand Marais, Michigan, with various rock formations like natural archways, waterfalls, and sand dunes. The Pictured Rocks stretch for about 15 miles along Lake Superior from Sand Point on the west to just after Spray Falls on the east.
Colorful and bold, the Pictured Rocks tower 50 to 200 feet directly from Lake Superior. The name Pictured Rocks comes from the streaks of mineral stain that decorate the face of the weather-sculpted cliffs. Sandstone cliffs of ochre, tan, and brown - sandwiched with layers of white, green, orange, and black - glisten against the cloud-streaked sky and clear waters of Lake Superior. The cliffs are composed of the Munising Formation of 500 million year old Cambrian period sandstone. The Munising Formation sits atop a Precambrian sandstone of the Jacobsville Formation. The mottled red Jacobsville Formation is the oldest rock in the park. On top of the Munising Formation is the younger Au Train Formation from the Ordovician period. The Au Train Formation is a hard sandstone and acts as a cap over the other layers. Streaks on the face of the cliffs come from the groundwater leaching out of the rock. With it come iron (red), manganese (black-white), limonite (yellow-brown), copper (pink-green) and other minerals. As the water evaporates, these minerals leave streaks of color.
Miners Castle provides a wonderful vista of the Pictured Rocks cliffs. At Sand Point, the cliffs are off in the distance.
Pictured Rock is the home of many of Michigan's waterfalls. Most of the waterfalls resulted from water running over cliffs of the Munising Formation. This lime and sandstone formation exists between Tahquamenon Falls, some 75 miles (121 km) east, to Laughing Whitefish Falls, 30 miles (48 km) miles west of the Lakeshore.
TRIP TO PARADISE - Tahquamenon Falls Michigan
Another place I visited on my vacation trip. I had a really great time. How I wish I could have longer vacations and travel more. Michigan alone has a lot to see, especially in the Upper Peninsula. There were many more places I would have loved to visit, I just simply didn't have the time.
