Waterton Lakes National Park Trip 2019 | Journey Alberta
I travel to Waterton Lakes National Park for my annual trip there! This time I'm with my girlfriend, and we stay at the Bear Mountain Motel in the townsite. While there we explore popular early season stuff that is currently open. We go for a walk around Cameron Falls, Linnet Lake, and the Upper Waterton Lake on our first day while also eating at Zum's and Pizza of Waterton. On the second day, we do the shoreline cruise that goes into the USA, where we see the physical border cut line through the trees. When the cruise is done, we head to driftwood beach and finally see some bears to close out the trip!

5 Things in Waterton Lakes National Park for First Timers
I list off 5 things to experience in Waterton if it's your first time going to the park. These must-see places include: The Bear's Hump hike, which is a steep climb that offers some of the best views in the park.
Red Rock Canyon, which is a canyon with red coloured red due to the high iron in the rock.
Cameron Falls, which is a large and impressive waterfall located in the town site.
Exploring the town site itself can prove to be a neat adventure, make sure you eat at some of the local restaurants (my personal favorites are Pizza of Waterton and the Big Scoop.
Last is Cameron Lake, a short drive from the town that offers incredible views and a chance to do the short hike to Akamina Lake.

Bertha Lake Hike in Waterton | Journey Alberta
The Bertha Lake hike in Waterton Lakes National Park is one of the reopened trails affected by the 2017 Kenow Wildfire. It's a moderate trail up to the lake, and also goes past the beautiful Bertha Falls. The lake itself seemed mostly unaffected by the fire, with lots of trees seemingly unburnt at the lake. On the way to the lake however, evidence of the fire is all around you. You'll walk through ash in some parts and see burnt trees, which is a different experience on a hike.
This video was originally part of my Camping in Waterton 2018 video I made, but since I've got some requests lately to do this hike in a video it was clear it was overlooked because there wasn't a specific video for it.

Mt. Galwey - Waterton Lakes National Park (Alberta, Canada)
2017-07-19 - Mt. Galwey may be short in overall distance but it packs a lot into the journey. The route to the south summit offers a steep hike, a brief ridge walk, a scree slope, easy scrambling to start with and then ends with some real hands on teeth-clenching excitement. The easiest access to the peak is the trailhead at the Coppermine Creek picnic area located along the Red Rock Parkway in Waterton Lakes National Park.

Waterton Lakes and Glacier National Parks in 4K
Waterton and Glacier International Peace Park in 4K. UNESCO World Heritage Site.
In 1932 Waterton Lakes National Park (Alberta, Canada) was combined with the Glacier National Park (Montana, United States) to form the world's first International Peace Park. Situated on the border between the two countries and offering outstanding scenery, the park is exceptionally rich in plant and mammal species as well as prairie, forest, and alpine and glacial features.
This video was shot in late June 2018. You will also notice the devastation and impact of the 2017 Kenow Wildfire have had on the Waterton Lakes National Park landscape, burning 19303 hectares in the Waterton Lakes area alone. Wildfires occur naturally and fulfill critical ecosystem functions, with the positive ecological effects usually greater than the negative. The economic impact however on the township of Waterton and its people is an important fact to mention and I hope that with this film I can help to showcase this fantastic place and local people and encourage anyone watching this video to visit the wonderful Waterton Lakes National Park and its many attractions and help the local economy recover and thrive.

Waterton Lakes National Park Hiking: Crypt Lake // Road Trip 2019
This hike was rated in the top 20 most thrilling hikes in the world by National Geogrpahic! And they were not kidding! Amazing views from narrow cliffs with steel cables running along the edge to hold on to, as you climb up to a glacier lake. And a natural tunnel to climb through! Wow! Certainly the best hike we have ever done -- The most exciting, memorable and difficult hike we have ever completed. The National Park of Waterton did not disappoint!
Our experience in Alberta has been AMAZING so far, and we aren't even at Banff and Jasper yet. Sheesh! We are loving Western Canada. Stay tuned for most incredible hikes!

Waterton Lakes National Park Hiking: Bertha Lake // Road Trip 2019
Waterton Lakes National Park -- As beautiful as Banff? Certainly smaller, and less crowded! But man, this place is picturesque. Incredible hikes, crystal clear lakes, beautiful views, and a tiny tow -- Waterton Village -- with all the amenities you need, whether you are camping, RVing, or staying in a hotel. Waterton Lakes National Park is like a warm-up to Banff -- less popular, less famous, and incredibly beautiful. We loved our time in Waterton!
Now off to Banff!

EP.15: Glacier National Park - Montana, Waterton Lakes National Park - Canada
Our visit to Waterton Lakes - Glacier National Park was the first time we'd been there in 19 years. We found some dramatic changes and some not so dramatic changes. the landforms, lakes and streams were just as beautiful as they were 19 years ago, but the crowds made the experience less than ideal. There were many trailheads that were totally out of parking each time we tried and we were never able to stop at the Logan Pass visitor center as there were cars parked for hundreds of yards in either direction from the entrance. This also prevented us from taking the Highline Trail hike as there was no place to park. Glacier will always be special to us, but we hope our next visit will be less hectic.
The Frank Landslide of 1903 was Canada's deadliest landslide. On the morning of April 29, 1903 a 1,400' high wall of rock from Turtle Mountain plunged from the summit. The southeast part of Frank, Alberta along with two miles of railroad, a coal mine and the homes of 100 people disappeared beneath from 50 to 150 feet of rock.
