Perito Moreno Glacier, Upsala Glacier & Spegazzini Glacier from El Calafate
In this video we will visit Perito Moreno Glacier, Upsala Glacier and Spegazzini Glacier and we stayed in El Calafate.
We cruised the Upsala Channel where you will see Icebergs as large as the boat and the Upsala Glacier as well. Upsala Glacier is one of the largest in Los Glaciares National Park. We then turn back to head to the Spegazzini Glacier. The Spegazzini Glacier also dumps in to the lake. Both Glacier were spectacular.
The next day we head out for a full day excursion. We left El Calafate and headed for Bajo de las Sombras pier. We cross the Rico Brach on boat and navigate for about 20 minutes in front of the Perito Moreno Glacier. The Perito Moreno Glacier is a vast valley glacier stretching nearly 20 miles long. Today many glaciers are retreating, this is one of the few advancing glaciers in the world, growing by approximately 2 meters per day. We then proceeded thru the Magellanic forest towards Perito Moreno Glacier. Once at the base of the glacier we began our trek. After the trek we boarded the boat to head back to see the other side of the glacier. This is where most people visit the national park of Perito Moreno Glacier. If you have the time I would recommend the trek on the glacier.

Upsala Glacier Cruise on Lago Argentino, El Calafate, Argentina.
Upsala is one of Glacier National Park's largest glaciers and offers the perfect gateway to the huge Ice Cape, the origin of the areas 47-ice flows. Second only to the Park’s Viedma Glacier in size, Upsala Glacier is over 30 miles long and nearly 6 miles wide at Argentino Lake's edge where large chunks crash into the water, surfacing to become icebergs. Named after the city of Upsala, whose university sponsored the first glaciology research in the area at the beginning of the twentieth century.

Trekking to Upsala Glacier Lookout, El Calafate, Argentina
After our cruise of Lake Argentino to enjoy an incredible panoramic view of the Upsala Glacier’s immense front, we disembarked at the shores close to Estancia Cristina. Our group was welcomed into their 4×4 vehicles, ready to head off into the wilderness.
The 4WDs then ventured up into the Feruglio Mountains, a 9.5km ride which offered great views of the surroundings and took us ultimately to an elevated area where the cars were parked. Once there, we began a 20-minute trek over terrain characterized by glacial erosion, until reaching the Upsala Glacier Lookout; an exclusive vantage point for visitors to appreciate this immense glacier that can only be accessed from Estancia Cristina. We spent time there to enjoy views of Lake Guillermo and the eastern side of the Upsala Glacier, as well as the Southern Patagonian Ice Field.

Gigantic Iceberg Detached from Upsala Glacier - El Calafate, Argentina
Only a short flight away from Ushuaia, the southern most city in the world, El Calafate, Argentina is a place to go for Winter Wonderlands all year long. It is the getaway to Glacier National Park, an enormous park of hundreds of glaciers, shared by Argentina and Chile.
You can spend hours staring at glacier Perito Moreno. You can take a hiking tour above it. You can take various day-long or multi-day boat trips to see the glaciers the park has to offer.
Here is a video captured in an all day trip. It is a gigantic iceberg that detached from Upsala Glacier, which I also saw on that trip. The formations of icebergs in the water was absolutely awe-inspiring. It was like sailing throuh nature's art museum.

UPSALA Glacier, Patagonian Andes, Argentina
This video is based on our visit, in October, 2014, to the Patagonian region of Argentina. The video is particularly based on the Glacial region of the Patagonian Andes in Southern Argentina. We stayed in the Patagonian town of El Calafate situated on the bank of Lake Argentina. From El Calafate, Gateway to Los Glaciares National Park, we travelled by road, about 50 kms, to Punto Banderas. From there we went on a tour of the Glaciers on-board catamaran 'Quo Vadis'.

Navegación Glaciares Spegazzini, Upsala, Perito Moreno - EL CALAFATE
