Buda Castle District - Budapest, Hungary
Budapest formed with the merger of Buda, on the west bank of the Danube River, and Pest, on the east bank. The west bank is home to Buda Castle and the Castle District, whose hilltop location overlooks the city.
The Castle District includes the Buda Castle, Matthias Church, the Fisherman's Bastion, historic neighborhoods, Baroque architecture, and excellent views of the Danube River and the rest of the city center.
The Buda Castle District is recognized as part of the Budapest World Heritage Site.
The Photos (in order)
G07A3550 - Looking across the Danube at Buda Castle, which has an 800-year history, including its total destruction in 1686 when the city was freed from Turkish occupation; the current castle is much the creation of the Habsburgs, although it suffered more damage in World War II
G07A3549 - A closer look at part of the castle complex
G07A3568 - Fishermen's Bastion has seven turrets, one for each of the Hungarian tribes; it features outstanding views of the city; it is located near Matthias Church, which was undergoing restoration at the time of the photo
G07A3513 - Another view of Fishermen's Bastion
G07A3505 - Fishermen's Bastion statue of King St. Stephen I, who was the first King of Hungary
G07A3531 - Matthias Church, also known as the Church of Our Lady, is in the heart of the castle district; the original church here dates back to 1015 AD, although construction of the current church began more than 200 years later; the church has been the site of several coronation ceremonies including that of the last Habsburg king, Charles IV; it served as the city's primary mosque during the Turkish occupation
G07A3534 - The Holy Trinity Statue is located in Trinity Square in front of Matthias Church
G07A3539 - Statue of Hadik Andras along Uri Utca, or Gentlemen's Street, in a representative Castle District neighborhood

Changing of the Guard Hungarian parliament in Budapest
The Budapest Parliament House is sitting on the banks of the Danube, built in a grand Neo-Gothic style. His design mixed Gothic, Medieval and Baroque elements with a lavish hand.
Budapest. An amazing journey in 5 minutes!
Most buildings in Budapest are relatively low: in the early 2010s there were around 100 buildings higher than 45 meters. The number of high-rise buildings is kept low by building legislation, which is aimed at preserving the historic cityscape and to meet the requirements of the World Heritage Site.

Through the First Person program, Holocaust survivors have the opportunity to share their remarkable personal stories of hope, tragedy, and survival with thousands of visitors at the Museum. This program was recorded March 14, 2018. It features Peter Gorog, who was born in Budapest, Hungary, in 1941. We loved staying at this Airbnb apartment in downtown Budapest. I couldn't imagine being in a better location. It was really close to restaurants and shops and within walking distance of everything you want to see in Budapest. The Szechenyi Baths and the House of Terror Museum are SO close. The apartment building has a charming courtyard and the apartment itself has two bedrooms and three bathrooms. I loved the high ceilings, huge bright windows, and peaceful location.
Hope you enjoy this tour! I'd love to know if you like staying at Airbnbs when you travel - leave me a comment!

Rabbis walking the path of death in Budapest singing Ani mamin
BUDAPEST - Chief Rabbis Yitzhak Yosef and David Lau, accompanied by Deputy Minister for Religious Affairs Eli Ben Dahan, commemorated the 70th anniversary of the destruction of Hungarian Jewry on Monday during a memorial in Budapest.
Most of the 568,000 Hungarian Jews murdered during the Holocaust were deported after the Nazis occupied their erstwhile ally in 1944. The issue of the Holocaust in Hungary is especially sensitive to the local Jewish community, numbering approximately 100,000, due to allegations that senior government officials have sought to whitewash their nation's role in the mass murder.
According to Yad Vashem, the Jews of Hungary were deported under German command mostly by Hungarian police and officials. Tens of thousands more died as a result of being impressed into military service as forced laborers. Thousands were transferred to the Germans and subsequently shot in 1941, three years before the occupation.
Monday's commemoration, which was organized as part of a two day clerical conference organized by the Rabbinical Center of Europe, one of two extant continental Rabbinical organizations. The conference brought hundreds of rabbis from across Europe, a significant plurality of whom are affiliated with the Chabad hasidic movement, in Budapest in order to discuss issues relating to assimilation and communal attrition, said RCE leader Rabbi Menachem Margolin.
