Sacred Valley of The Incas Private Tour (The Hidden Gems) By Peru Summit Adventures
Sacred Valley Of The Incas Private Tours (Pisac, Maras Salt Ponds, Moray, Chinchero, Ollantaytambo) is a relaxed and incomparably beautiful and tucked under the tawny skirts of formidable foothills of the Urubamba range, long the home of attractive colonial towns, isolated weaving villages, the Rio (river) Urubamba, massive Incan agricultural terraces, ancient Incan temples. Explore these hidden places with a private guide at your side. The magnificent Incan archaeological sites found from Pisaq to Ollantaytambo and beyond – some of the finest not only in Peru but also in all of the Americas, are testaments to the region’s immense ceremonial importance. The Incas built several of the empire’s greatest estates, temples, and royal palaces between the sacred centers of Cusco and Machu Picchu positioned like great bookends at the south and north ends of the valley. Through the valley rolls the revered Río Urubamba (called in Quechua Willcamayu by the Incas; today it is also called the Vilcanota in one section), a pivotal religious element of the Incas’ cosmology. The Incas believed not only that the flow of the Urubamba was inexorably tied to the constellations and the mountain peaks, but also that the river was the earthbound counterpart of the Milky Way. With the river as its source, the fertile valley was a major center of agricultural production for the Incas, who grew native Andean crops such as white corn, coca, potatoes, and other fruits and vegetables in expansive fields and along spectacularly terraced mountain slopes. The valley continues to serve as a breadbasket for Cusco, providing grains, potatoes, peaches, avocados, and much more. Join us on this once in lifetime experience!

Patacancha bike trail - Sacred Valley Peru
PataLares is the name given by Hans to the rides encompassing the high pamero / puna in the Patacancha highlands then valley descending the N side of Pumawank'a from the Chalhua Cocha pass.
Via this route we got amazing views of Sahuaisiray and Sirijuani then took parts of the Wakawasi trail to Lares ducking out on partway on the road as a member of the party was feeling altitude sickness.
The Patacancha trail starts at 4100m at the pass and has some pedally and climbing bits. It is not a particularly good way to acclimatize because exit to lower altitudes will take a bit of time so be forewarned.
Chincheros - Sacred Valley - Cuzco - Peru - Southamerica
For the people of Chincheros, Peru, weaving is a way of life, as important for preserving ancient traditions as it is for earning a livelihood.
Perched high in the Peruvian Andes on the Inca road between Cusco and Machu Picchu, Chincheros was an early Inca center built by emperor Tupa Inca as his country estate. During Inca reign, textiles were woven and offered to mark special occasions, from peace treaties and sacrifices to marriage ceremonies and puberty rites.
In Chincheros, children grow up playing with their mother's spindle and loom. By age six or seven, most children learn to weave by watching their elders. They begin by weaving jakimas, or narrow ribbons, before moving on to more complicated pieces.
The most important of these are mantas. Villagers use these long rectangular weavings to carry babies and items such as food or firewood on their backs. Mantas are both symbolic and utilitarian. Like Scottish clans with their identifying plaids, each Chincheros community has its own distinctive manta, designed with a unique combination of colors and patterns.
At weekly markets, Chincheros villagers trade their handcrafted weavings for fruits and vegetables that are difficult to grow at Chincheros's high elevation of more than 12,000 feet (3,658 meters). With each exchange, weavers earn a living, carry on their ancient art, and share a piece of Chincheros's culture with the world. Please, enjoy this video recorded in chincheros - Peru.

Amazing Cusco, Oyantaytambo, Pisac and Chinchero, Peru
The beautiful towns of Cusco, Oyantaytambo, Pisac and Chinchero, in the Urubamba or Sacred Valley of Peru. Cusco was an Incan capitol. The Spanish destroyed and rebuilt much of it, five hundred years ago. The main Cathedral and the Jesuit Church (Compania de Jesus) open onto Plaza de Armas. The town is surrounded by mountains. On one, overlooking the town from an area to the north called Sacsayhuaman, is a large statue of Jesus, with outstretched arms.
Continuing north to the Urubamba River, in an agricultural region, is Pisac, a town with a large, busy market. West along the Urubamba River are the towns of Urubamba and then Oyantaytambo. Southwest of Urubamba are the Salineras, man-made ponds, running up a mountain face, where water is evaporated to collect salt. Oyantaytambo was a fortress and farming settlement and a modern town continues there today. It is about midway on the rail line from Cusco to Machupicchu.

PERU'S HIDDEN GEMS - DRIVING in The SACRED VALLEY of INCAS
The Sacred Valley
Tucked under the tawny skirts of formidable foothills, the beautiful Río Urubamba Valley, known as El Valle Sagrado (the Sacred Valley), is about 15km north of Cuzco as the condor flies, via a narrow road of hairpin turns. It's worth exploring this peaceful, fetching corner of the Andes with attractive colonial towns and isolated weaving villages. Star attractions are the markets and the lofty Inca citadels of Pisac and Ollantaytambo, but it's also packed with other Inca sites. Its myriad trekking routes are deservedly gaining in popularity. Adrenaline activities range from rafting to rock climbing.
A multitude of travel agencies in Cuzco offer whirlwind tours of the Sacred Valley, stopping at markets and the most significant ruins. It's also worth an in-depth visit. The archaeological sites of Pisac, Ollantaytambo and Chinchero can be visited with a boleto turístico, which can be bought directly on-site.

Driving from the Cristo Blanco monument overlooking cusco to the town of Ollantaytambo in the sacred valley as part of the G-adventures tour. The stops included a local fabric weaving co op, the entrance to the sacred valley as well as a lunch stop. It was a beautiful drive through and through and Ollantaytambo was an amazing experience in itself; also being the staging point for many of the hikes leading to Machu Picchu.

Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley Adventures
Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley was visited May 2005, as a part of our Crooked Trail tour of Peru.
We traveled by private bus to Chinchero where we toured the Inca ruins there and visited a weavers cooperative run by Vilma and Paulino. After demonstrations of weaving and wool dying, we tried our hand at the backstrap looms with mixed success. We were then treated to a lunch of the national Peruvian foods of potatoes and cuy or guinea pig.
We then toured their new weavers cooperative called Minka Chinchero, which has covered sales stalls a weaving and dying demonstration areas, dining areas and a hostel.
We continued our journey to Ollantaytambo where we unexpectedly came across a huge three-day festival that was ending that day. We joined the festivalgoers down by the church in the pampas area. There were more than twenty groups that were dressed in various costumes ranging from drunken cowboys, professors, bejeweled step dancers, bolo dancers to fancy hat dancers. There were also horseback riders who competed for the grabbing a corncob that was suspended over the raceway on a rope. We returned for dinner near our hotel and then many of us joined the continued festivities in the plaza.
There we saw all of the groups parade around the plaza for awards with some of our group joining in on the parade. The winning groups were allowed to set off elaborate fireworks.
Following that, there were three dance bands set up by some of the wealthier groups, so we joined in the dancing and drinking until late in the evening.
The following morning we caught the train to kilometer 104 where we began our day hike along the Royal Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. This route is believed to be the ceremonial path that the Inca ruling caste used for ritual purification before entering the sacred site of Machu Picchu. The trail is a magnificent hike to from the Choquesuysuy ruins to Quetzal Falls, to the watch tower of the Winayhuayna ruins. In the afternoon we climbed through the Intipunku (Gate of the Sun), the ancient entrance to the sanctuary and arrive in the late afternoon to see Machu Picchu for the first time while the crowds cleared out.
Following a night in Aguas Calientes, we return to Machu Picchu to catch the morning light and the sounds of the flute playing by the Peruvian guides. We spend the day exploring Machu Picchu with our guide, David. I climbed to the top of Wuyanu Picchu where I was greeted by the local hawk that was more adept at catching tourists goodies than field mice.
This video is 43 minutes long. Rick Hunt filmed it May 2005.
