Life in Japan 30: Uwasekigata Park, Niigata June 2, 2017

Today I took an afternoon stroll in Niigata's Uwasekigata Park. The weather was nice and you could see Mt Yahiko in the distance. There was a beautiful lake, and a pleasant walking path.

Wara Art Festival 2019（わらアートまつり2019 英語版）
This event is one that only rice country Niigata can put on as rice straw (wara) make up the giant creatures at the Wara Art Festival. The straw creatures will show you a completely alternate universe that explores the theme of what it would be If a things were different.
The giant sculptures can be seen in Uwasekigata Park and during the opening event on August 25th, there will be chances to make your own art out of straw and buy specialty goods from the Nishikan Ward of Niigata City.
Enjoy a relaxing end of summer outing at this picturesque location.

A “wara” or rice-straw festival is held every August 31st, where local artists build elaborate straw sculptures over wooden frames. The frames allow the statues to be larger and let spectators interact with them.
Amy Goda, an aspiring local artist, has gained fame for her spectacular rice-straw dinosaur sculptures. Her massive creatures have made the Wara Art Festival famous online. Life in Japan 6: Hanami in Niigata, Flower Maze, and Sweet Potato | April 16, 2017
Hello Everyone,
Today I went out with my Japanese friend and her children. We saw sakura (cherry blossoms). Climbed the Fukushima Lagoon observation tower, got lost in a canola flower maze and checked out a coworkers new café. My highlight of the day was sitting in an ancient Japanese house, eating yakimo, (sweet potato) and and listen to an old man’s stories. Oh did I mention their was a mascot?

The transportation is mainly hitching and doing camping.
The day was rain and I couldn’t catch a car that goes far. I moved so slow. However I tried hitchhike many times so I got Information about local foods. Many people gave me local delicious foods. I really enjoyed Hokkaido^^

Japan pt.1 C'mon 'n Ride It (The Train) [Travel Vlog]
After wrapping a visit to Manila in the Philippines, it was straight to Japan for a few more days of adventure before heading home. Although Bethany was under the weather, we made the best of our time - most of which was rushed to get to trains as we landed around 3pm and by the time we arrived in Tokyo to ride another train, it was dark.
Apologies, Fushimi Inari SHRINE, not temple... not sure how I missed that.

I was able to have a good understanding of train schedules thanks to (reliable source for all kinds of transportation schedules in Japan).
Also thanks to the Youtube channel Elise & Aaron ( for helping understand the Kyoto area ahead of traveling there ourselves.
Back to Tokyo and trip to Nikko
Episode 9 of our Andiamo Japan trip. We move back to Tokyo for the last part of the trip, and make it our base for daily excursion out of the city. First stop, Nikko and the Toshogu shrine in the Tochogi prefecture.

Today I decided to venture out of my tiny apartment and 6:30 am to go on an Adventure to Yahiko Village about 45 minutes from Niigata city by car. The little village is packed with fun things to do from hiking mountains and visiting shrines to riding in cable cars and watching bicycle races.

Traveling to Japan
It's coming after the Shinkansen videos, but better late than never, right?
Today's video is all about the trek from Las Vegas over to Haneda Airport in the Tokyo area. I had wondered what I wanted to do with the vlogs I shot. I didn't do as many as I expected I would, but I may as well use them. So, I'll be combining them in with other stuff, and trying to make it into somewhat cohesive videos. By the time I'm done, I'll hopefully have covered a good deal of my trip there.
And as you will see, I also mark the temporary transition from Floundering Through Life to Floundering Through Japan with this video.
