WORLD'S BIGGEST MIRROR | Uyuni Salt Flats, Bolivia
THIS ADVENTURE MADE POSSIBLE BY: Kuoda Travel
/// The Bolivian Salt Flats in Uyuni, Bolivia are one of the most beautiful and unique places we've ever been! They are the biggest in the world (10,000 square kilometers of salt!). We drove 70 miles in the middle of the flats and had a gourmet picnic, and then hiked on an island that has formed on top of the flats. We ended the day with a gorgeous sunset and settled in our salt hotel for the night!

Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia (RT#76)
Hi guys,
we went with Red Planet Expeditions (they did a great job) into the wild side: the salt flat near Uyuni. This is the first of two episodes of our three day tour far from civilization, phone cells or even flowing water nor electricity. The landscapes we've been to have been the most impressive we'd ever seen. F*cking cold, e.g. in the night down to -15 degrees Celsius without heating system, it was not the most comfortable trip we've ever been to, but surely one of the most impressive.
Enough written - watch it!

3 DAYS IN THE SALT FLATS, BOLIVIA - Salar de Uyuni Travel Vlog
During our travels in South America, there was one place we kept hearing about - The Salt Flats in Bolivia. Everybody that we met who had been here said it was one of their highlights, so when there's no way we were going to miss them.
Salar de Uyuni is the largest salt flats in the world and is incredibly beautiful. The best way to explore them is to sign up for a Uyuni Salt Flats tour, which includes your transport, guide, food and accommodation. We joined the company Red Planet Expeditions, and the cost was only USD$210 per person for the 3 days, which was a bargain considering what you get to see and do.
During our time in the Uyuni salt flats we visited the train cemetery, a salt-processing village, Cactus Island, the Eduardo Avaroa National Park and some volcanic geysers. We stayed in salt hotels, swam in hot springs and saw plenty of flamingos and llamas too.
This Salt Flats Bolivia tour was definitely worth the trip when travelling around the country. Salar de Uyuni blew our minds, and we can't wait to come back again at a different time of year when the salt flats are flooded, making what is known as the world's largest mirror.

Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia - Part 1
Salar de Uyuni
Salar de Uyuni (or Salar de Tunupa) is the world's largest salt flat at 10,582 square kilometers (4,086 sq mi). It is located in the Daniel Campos Province in Potosí in southwest Bolivia, near the crest of the Andes and is at an elevation of 3,656 meters (11,995 ft) above mean sea level.
The Salar was formed as a result of transformations between several prehistoric lakes. It is covered by a few meters of salt crust, which has an extraordinary flatness with the average altitude variations within one meter over the entire area of the Salar. The crust serves as a source of salt and covers a pool of brine, which is exceptionally rich in lithium. It contains 50 to 70% of the world's lithium reserves, which is in the process of being extracted. The large area, clear skies, and the exceptional flatness of the surface make the Salar an ideal object for calibrating the altimeters of Earth observation satellites.
The Salar serves as the major transport route across the Bolivian Altiplano and is a major breeding ground for several species of pink flamingos. Salar de Uyuni is also a climatological transitional zone since the towering tropical cumulus congestus and cumulus incus clouds that form in the eastern part of the salt flat during the summer cannot permeate beyond its drier western edges, near the Chilean border and the Atacama Desert.

Salar de Uyuni: 3 Day Tour of Bolivia's Salt Flats and Colored Lagoons
There’s more to Uyuni in Bolivia than the salt flats. If you limit your visit to Uyuni to ‘just’ the salt flats, you’ll miss some of the most beautiful and diverse landscapes I’ve ever seen.
We traveled around Bolivia by ourselves, but we joined a small group with a guide to do a 3 day (2 nights) tour of Uyuni’s highlights. I’ve been back two weeks now and I’m still struggling to find the words to describe this experience. Words, photos and videos will never do it justice, so I’m hoping that this video will do enough to convince you to go to Bolivia to see it for yourself.

Drone 4K : Salar de Uyuni, world biggest mirror
Drone 4K footage of the world's largest salt flat Salar de Uyuni, located in Bolivia at 3700 m of altitude. Unforgettable, amazing, the most beautiful place in the world.
In the South East of Bolivia is the location of the biggest Salt Flat in the world, Uyuni Salt Flat.
Here are some facts about Salar de uyuni.
About 40,000 years ago, this arid area was part of a lake that covered a large swath of the Andes. Nowadays it is The World's Biggest Salt Desert.
Salar de Uyni covers a surface of 10.582 Km2, at the altitude of 3700 above sea level.
Like any other desert, the weather conditions in Uyuni Bolivia are extreme, from freezing night temperatures to fierce desert sun. In the Salar itself, you can find several hotels which have been made from salt bricks, including beds, chairs and cocktail bars. All is made from salt!
In the January, February and March, there is a lot of water and the dessert becomes the world's biggest mirror. So, if you want to see the clouds reflexion effect, it's the best time to visit Salar de Uyni. In other months, it's more likely to see Salar de Uyni dry.
Whiteness, fringed by the peaks of mountains on the horizon, silence and hypoxia makes this experience absolutely unique. It's definately the most beautiful place in the world.
The easiest way to join Salar is a flight from La Paz, there are only two bolivian airlines that propose flights to Salar de Uyni. You also need to arrange a tour in advance, because you cannot rent a car at the Uyni airport. The Salar de uyuni tours cost is pretty expensive, around 250 euros per day, all depends if you share the car with other people. You can also request oxygen tank which is a great help for hypoxia.
You can also take several days 4x4 expedition to visit other parts of the Salar: lake retba, mount roraima, phytoplankton, lake hillier, socotra island, the great blue hole, cactus island.
The weather is Salar is extremly changeable, you can not really trust weather forecast, it rains a lot from January to March. The temperature during the night can go below -20.

DESEIRTO DE SAL BOLIVIA - The WORLD'S LARGEST MIRROR at Salar de Uyuni is like Heaven on Earth. We visited in the dry season to see the vast dry plains of salt and of course to take our classical trick photography with our world travelling kids. But instead we were delighted with out of season rain days prior which also gave us the most powerful mirrored effect of the surrounding mountains, that truly leaves you speechless. How incredible is it that Lady Luck was on our side and we experienced both the wet and dry season in one day?!?
