Madagascar Lemurs
ROBANCA TRAVELOGUES: A wildlife adventure on the amazing island of Madagascar, with informative commentary.
Our aim is to see lemurs in their natural habitat. Starting in the capital Antananarivo, we then visit the Peyrieras Reserve to view a wide variety of chameleons en-route to Andasibe. At the Vakona Forest Lodge, we see bamboo lemurs, red-ruffed lemurs, diademed sifakas, common brown lemurs, ring-tailed lemurs and black and white ruffed lemurs. During a night walk in the Voimma Reserve, we see the parson’s chameleon and the mouse lemur. At Mantadia Park, high in the forest canopy are the largest lemurs, the indri indri. We stop at Antsampanana village market en-route to Lake Rasoabe for a speedboat along the Canal de Pangalanes to reach the Palmarium Lodge, which is only accessible by water. From here we visit an island where a small group of rare aye aye lemurs live. Around the lodge are black and white ruffed lemurs, common brown lemurs, black lemurs, crowned lemurs, hybrid lemurs and the indri indri. An exhilarating speedboat journey to Toamasina passes many traditional canal side villages and all manner of working boats. At Toamasina, we explore the beach area, before next morning travelling to Mahambo for the ferry to Sainte Marie Island, also known as Nosy Boraha. The island has beautiful beaches and small fishing communities, still using the traditional wooden pirogue boats. Here we explore the main town of Ambodifotatra and local villages including Vohilava.

Visit Madagascar: The Lemurs of Andasibe National Park
Andasibe National Park is a protected rainforest area in eastern Madagascar and known for the Indri-indri, the largest lemur. A good guide is a must! Pop for the extra expense and hire a private guide instead of joining a group tour and observe silence when viewing! These lemurs, unlike those at Berenty Private Reserve, are shy.
