The market of Vadodara (Gujarat - India)

(EN) Vadodara formerly Baroda (Gujarati: બરોડા Baroḍā),(Marathi: वड़ोदा, Vadoda) is the third most-populated city in the Indian state of Gujarat after Ahmedabad and Surat. It is one of four cities in the state with a population of over 1 million,[6] the other being Rajkot and the two cities listed above, although it has a massive population of over 3 million. It is also known as the Sayaji Nagari (Sayaji's City after its famous ruler, Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III) or Sanskari Nagari (The City of Culture, a reference to its status as the Cultural Capital of Gujarat). Vadodara or Baroda, formerly the capital city of the Gaekwar State, is situated on the banks of the Vishwamitri, a river whose name derived from the great saint Rishi Vishwamitra. It is located southeast of Ahmedabad. It is the administrative headquarters of Vadodara District.
Vadodara is home to almost 1.6 million people[7] (as of 2005), the beautiful Lakshmi Vilas Palace and the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda (M.S.U.) which is the largest university in Gujarat. Its famous for various faculties and departments, including the Fine Arts, Performing Arts, Technology, Management, Psychology, Social Work, Law and Medicine streams. It has a high literacy rate by Indian standards of 78% (2001). Major industries include petrochemicals, engineering, pharmaceuticals, plastics and Forex. Famous companies such as ABB, Reliance Industries, Larsen and Toubro, IPCL, ONGC and Sun Pharmaceuticals all have a strong presence in this city, also it has presence of IT multi-national companies.

Vadodara rains: Crocodiles terror continues as more enter residential complex due to waterlogging

Due to waterlogging by the ongoing heavy rains, further incidents of crocodiles entering Vadodara’s housing complexes have been recorded. Following last week’s viral video of a crocodile attacking a dog inside Lalbaug’s Rajsthamb society, a team of rescuers captured another reptile at night from the entrance of a house. Meanwhile, a 10-foot-long crocodile gave a hard time to forest officials at a society in Vadsar. As the water levels rise in the Lalbaug lake, crocodiles come out and enter the housing societies adjacent to it.

Vadodara (formerly known as Baroda) is the third-largest city in the Western Indian state of Gujarat, after Ahmedabad and Surat.
It is the administrative headquarters of Vadodara District and is located on the banks of the Vishwamitri river, 139 km (86 mi) from the state capital Gandhinagar.
As of 2011, Vadodara had a population of almost 1.8 million+ people. The city is known for the Lakshmi Vilas Palace, the residence of Baroda State's Maratha royal family, the Gaekwads. It is also the home of the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, the largest university in Gujarat.
An important industrial, cultural and educational hub of western India, the city houses several institutions of national and regional importance while its major industries include petrochemicals, engineering, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, plastics, IT and foreign exchange services.

Vadodara City is also known as cultural capital of Gujarat. The city has a cosmopolitan mixture of Indian nationals as well as that of Non-Resident Indians with various tourists visiting this city. The major residents of this City happen to be from the native land of Gujarat and speak Gujarati. Being a multicultural mix the city has people who are generally found to be able to speak Gujarati, Hindi, Marathi, Sindhi as well as English. Most people are easily able to speak passable English, and in certain areas, you will meet people that are fluent in English.

Vadodara is built across the bank of Vishwamitri River. The east part of the city is old city and the west part of the city beyond the Vadodara Railway Station is recent and modern parts of the city.

Karelibaug, Alkapuri, Subhanpura, Gotri, Manjalpur are areas heavily frequented by NRI's (non-resident Indians) and has western restaurants (Pizza Hut, McDonald's, Subway, CCD, Barista, Barbeque Nation), stores (Adidas, Nike, Metro). So also are the areas of Mandvi and Nyay Mandir crowded marketplace frequented by all sectors of society for living and shopping alike.

The city has a history of being industrious since the era of Gaekwad kingdom who brought the Gaekwad Railways in the city in ancient times. The industry in the city includes Gujarat State Fertilizer Limited, Gujarat Refinery, Reliance Industries, Gujarat Alkali Chemicals Limited, L&T Limited, TCS, Wipro, IBM, Window Maker, Transpek Silox, ABB Limited, Siemens, Alstom, TBEA. various industries of sectors like IT, Pharma, Manufacturing, Petrochemical, Medical, Automation, and Control. People from various cities who moved here, prefer working here because of the simple life, but with all resources like schools, water, and electricity.

Vadodara, Gujarat was a mind blowing experience on food. This day was power packed on food varieties. Each food i tried was best in its class. I was told by few people that what i will get to eat in vadodara will be no different from what is existing in Ahmedabad and Surat but this turned out to be completely different.

The Vadodara bus station is the central bus station serving the city of Vadodara in Gujarat, India.

It was built under a public-private partnership between the Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) and realty firm Cube Construction. Built at a cost of ₹114 crore, the five-storey terminus is spread over 2.4 lakh square feet.

Called the Ved Transcube Plaza, it has the Vadodara Central Bus Terminal as well as a commercial complex. The terminus handles over 800 buses and as many as 28,000 to 35,000 passengers daily.

Vadodara(Baroda) is a well-known city in the world. It is located on the banks of the Vishwamitri river, southeast of Ahmedabad, 139 km from the state capital, Gandhinagar. Both the railway line and national highway connecting Delhi and Mumbai pass through Vadodara.
