Johan Christian Dahl is considered one of the most accomplished landscape painters and Romantic artists of his time. Dahl began his training in Norway as a decorative painter, and continued his studies at the Copenhagen Academy under artists Carl Adolf Lorentzen and Georg Haas. Dahl was perhaps most influenced by 17th-century Dutch landscape painters, particularly Jacob van Ruisdael, as well as Caspar David Friedrich, who was also a lifelong friend. He made many studies for larger works en plein air, but the final works would be the combined result of sketches and landscapes conjured from memory. His works were characteristically emotional and nocturnal, with light filtering through clouds or mist. The erupting volcano Vesuvius also appeared in many of his works, inspired by Dahl’s witness of the actual phenomenon at close range.

Johan Christian Dahl (b Bergen, 24 Feb. 1788; d Dresden, 14 Oct. 1857).Norwegian landscape painter, active mainly in Dresden, where he became a professor at the Academy in 1824. In spite of his long residency in Germany, he took his subjects mainly from his native country and began its tradition of landscape painting—he is often called the discoverer of the Norwegian landscape. He was a friend of Friedrich and he shared with him a feeling for Romantic grandeur in nature, although Dahl's work does not have the mystical element found in Friedrich. Dahl often returned to Norway, and his strong patriotic feelings were expressed not only in his paintings, but also in helping to found (1837) the National Gallery in Christiania (now Oslo), to which he presented his own impressive art collection.

Niestety padało a baterie w kamerze się wyczerpały (moje szczęście) więc nagrałem co się dało iPodem. Ponieważ warunki atmosferyczne zaczęły się pogarszać, ludzie martwili się o swoje maszyny i zaczęli się zwijać wiec nagrałem tylko bardzo mała część tego co tam się działo. Mam nadzieje ze jakość nie będzie duża przeszkodą przy oglądaniu.

Stadler trams running on the Croydon Tramlink system in South London, videos recorded on the Mitcham Junction overpass, and East Croydon areas. Very good experience travelling on them!!
