The Vale of Rheidol Railway's No 7 is back and a Brand New Station at Aberystwyth 25/02/2019.
On what's turned out to be the hottest day in Britain since records began, Mrs M and I went up to see the Vale of Rheidol Railway in Aberystwyth, where we came across two surprises. A brand new Station in the process of being built, and steam loco No 7 back in service after over 20 years awaiting a re-build. and she looked absolutely splendid.
The introduction is made by Mr Geraint Roberts, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank him for his help in making this video.

A Journey on the Vale of Rheidol Steam Railway 2nd July 2019
Today, Mrs M and I decided to go up to the Vale of Rheidol Railway to have a ride from Aberystwyth to Devil's Bridge.
We decided to catch the 10.30 service from Aberystwyth, which today was hauled By loco 1213 A.k.a. No 9 Price of Wales, and was full with no spare seats on departure
The weather was wonderful, and this is the first time I've had the opportunity to video from the train, so sit back and enjoy the journey through some stunning scenery up the Rheidol Valley in Mid Wales
we saw No7 in February this year, and today saw the remaining two locos on the VOR Fleet, Nos 8 and 9.
Note that towards the end of the return journey, that a driver hadn't stopped at the Barriers, resulting in him stuck out in front of the oncoming train, and the barrier down on his bonnet.
Aberystwyth and the Vale Of Rheidol Railway Update 15/03/2014
We visited Aberystwyth today, and were totally amazed at the restoration work carried out along the Sea Front that was severely damaged during the Storms in January this year. Everyone involved must be congratulated in undertaking this work and completing it to a very high standard in such a short time scale.
We then followed Vale of Rheidol Railway No 9 Prince of Wales at various points on the climb up to Devils Bridge, where we see the new platform, and the work being carried out around the Station Area.
Vale of Rheidol - Great Little Trains of Wales HTV
Panting up the mountains chugging through the vales go the gallant little railway lines of Wales Wynford Vaughan Thomas visits the Vale of Rheidol Railway. This film was originally broadcast on HTV in the 1970s.
The Vale of Rheidol Railway, Ceredigion, Wales
Travelling on the Vale of Rheidol Railway is the finest way to see the stunning Rheidol Valley as you journey through wide open fields, woodland and rugged mountain scenery.
The line is a masterpiece of engineering, opened in 1902 to carry lead ore, timber and passenger traffic. The narrow gauge steam locomotive climbs 700ft (200m) in the 11 ¾ miles from Aberystwyth to Devil’s Bridge, the line twisting and turning as it clings to the hillside.
Ownership of the line passed to British Railways in 1948, and it survived through threats of closure to become the last steam railway owned by British Rail until privatised in 1989.
The railway is now owned by a charitable trust, which set about renovating and improving the locomotives, carriages and track and opening up some of the views not seen for decades.
The locomotives and carriages currently in use were built for the line by the Great Western Railway between 1923 and 1938.
A busy train leaves Aberystwyth
The sunshine bought out the passengers on 24th June 2013! The diesel was required to shunt the carriages at Devil's Bridge.

Vale Of Rheidol Railway 'Steam Festival Weekend' 15/09/19
September marked the return of the much anticipated 'Forgotten Engines' gala at the Vale of Rheidol railway, the last one being in 2015.
This years event presented the opportunity to see all three rheidol tank locomotives No.7, No.8 and No.1213 (No.9) in steam together for the first time since the mid 1980s as well as three other locomotives hidden away for years to discover in the workshops at Aberystwyth.
It all came together to create an exciting & enjoyable weekend!

Vale of Rheidol Railway 31 May 2000
The Vale of Rheidol Railway is a 1 foot 11.75 inch gauge steam operated railway that runs from Aberystwyth to Devil's Bridge. It was completed in 1902 and later absorbed by the Cambrian Railways, then the GWR and finally British Railways before being privatized.
It has always been a favourite of mine and I had my first footplate ride on a steam engine between Llanbadarn & Devil's Bridge in the early 1960's. A subsequent video will show a footplate ride taken in 2000.
The video shows two of the three 2-6-2T locomotives (built by the GWR in 1923); #8 Llwelyn and #9 Prince of Wales at several locations.
Vale of Rheidol Railway - June 1993
Arriving too late to take a trip on this occasion I followed the #9 'Prince of Wales' hauled Aberystwyth bound train down the line from Devil's Bridge.

All Change at Aberystwyth - part 1
50 years ago everything was changing on British Railways, even in the outbacks such as Aberystwyth where steam had ceased on the standard gauge but was to continue on the narrow gauge Vale of Rheidol line. These two things would interact as the standard gauge line to the south at Carmarthan had closed altogether thus allowing BR to rationalise' the narrow gauge line and give it a direct route out of the old Carmarthan line platforms. Here we see the old exchange line between the two, now redundant, and the VoR's line which skirted to the south around the standard gauge complex and where a VoR train seems to appear out of someone's garden as it makes its way to its own soon-to-be removed terminus.
