HARROGATE THE VALLEY GARDENS - PART 1 - 20th Feb 2009 North Yorkshire UK
A quick stroll through the valley gardens in February 2009, learning about my Canon XM1 without a tripod, as you can tell, to see what was going on.
It's my first attempt, so I can only improve. I sincerely hope so I hear you all shout.

The Valley Gardens, in Low Harrogate, is the town's main park and covers much of the area originally known as 'Bogs Field', where a number of springs were discovered. Valley Gardens has an ice cream parlour, children's play area with outdoor paddling pool, a skate park, frisbee golf, crazy golf and mini golf. The Sun Pavilion at the northern edge of the park can be privately hired. Tennis courts and a bowling green are in the west of the park. The Friends Of Valley Gardens group was formed in 2009 to support the park. It works in partnership with Harrogate Borough Council to guide the park’s development.
Valley Gardens and the adjacent Pinewoods in Harrogate comprise about 17 acres of park, woodland, and floral displays. It is believed that a greater number of mineral springs come to the surface in Valley Gardens than in any other known location on earth. Thirty-six of Harrogate’s eighty-eight mineral wells are found within the gardens, with no two being alike. The floral displays are spectacular and include a magnificent dahlia garden and seasonal bedding displays that are re-planted throughout the year. For more information about Valley Gardens, please visit the Harrogate Borough Council web page. The main entrance to Valley Gardens is situated at the junction of Cornwall Road, Valley Drive and Royal Parade Harrogate.

Harrogate is a town in North Yorkshire, England, east of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Its heritage as a fashionable spa resort continues in the Montpellier Quarter with the Royal Pump Room Museum, documenting the importance of local mineral springs. Nearby is the restored, Moorish-style Turkish Baths & Health Spa. To the west, leafy Valley Gardens features the art deco Sun Pavilion.
Harrogate spa water contains iron, sulphur and common salt. The town became known as 'The English Spa' in the Georgian era, after its waters were discovered in the 16th century. In the 17th and 18th centuries its 'chalybeate' waters (containing iron) were a popular health treatment, and the influx of wealthy but sickly visitors contributed significantly to the wealth of the town.
Harrogate railway station and Harrogate bus station in the town centre provide transport connections. Leeds Bradford International Airport is 10 miles (16 km) south-west of Harrogate. The main roads through the town are the A61, connecting Harrogate to Leeds and Ripon, and the A59, connecting the town to York and Skipton. Harrogate is also connected to Wetherby and the A1, by the A661.
The town is served by four railway stations; Harrogate (for town centre), Hornbeam Park, Pannal (towards Leeds) and Starbeck on the Harrogate Line to Knaresborough and York. Harrogate bus station is in the town centre. It is managed by Harrogate Bus Company, the main operator.

This is StrEat Food Festival in Harrogate's Valley Gardens.
It ran from Friday to Monday over the August Bank Holiday weekend, and is set to become an annual event.
The DJ featured is Rory Hoy. Rory is a guy in his twenties, and is a local lad from Knaresborough. Rory has appeared in gigs alongside the likes of Craig Charles and according to his dad, who i got chatting to, is almost entirely self taught. Rory has autism, but refuses to allow this to become what identifies him.
He is very determined, and committed to his craft, and his parents are rightly very proud of his achievements.
